  • Tiny houses and small homes dazzled at the first-ever Innovative Housing Showcase, co-hosted by the National Association of Home Builders and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). During the event, we repped the tiny house movement by talking with policymakers, the general public, and the HUD Secretary Ben Carson. And we toured the swoon-worthy innovative structures on display. To our delight, the tiny houses on wheels were incredibly well-received with bi-partisan support. Other show highlights included a reimagined shipping container house to an expandable, stackable building system.
“Featuring new building technologies and housing solutions that are making housing more affordable for American families and homes more resilient during natural disasters…will include panel discussions, on-stage interviews, and demonstrations with exhibitors, lawmakers, entrepreneurs, and leaders in the housing industry.”
By being included in this event, tiny houses are further legitimized as a quality, affordable housing solution to a wide range of needs. A BIG step forward for greater acceptance.

If you E.V.E.R. considered Ben Carson as a way to legitimize your small homes, you are completely brain dead. ...as soon as I saw Ben Carson's face, my 1st conscious thought was "likely a criminal enterprise/ripoff". My 2nd conscious thought was to contact the authorities to investigate. My 3rd conscious thought was that there must be something very off with small homes in general. My 4th conscious thought was to change the "channel".

Are you kidding me? You guys had the NERVE to head to DC, invite the corrupt legislature to visit your convention?!!! You dirty back stabbers! You know good and well that the legislation is only there to see who they can call when they get back to their publicly funded cushy offices, and see which lobby will pay they the MOST !!! to shut American citizens OUT of an affordable housing solution. The excessively HIGH cost of housing is at catastrophic proportions! You all know it! It wasn't YOU that come up with these innovative potential solutions. It was the avg hard working joe across the land that's coming up with various solutions like tiny homes. Tiny homes was started by the people FOR the people. To keep from being homeless!!!!
I had a double wide mobile home. It's still in my name. But, corrupt Dems flooding the Nation with their 'open borders' policy has ruined not only me but many many American's in my area.
Illegal aliens broke in to my house more times than I can count. Stole and vandalized my home. Stole my important papers including my birth certificate, my son's birth certificate, and my certificate of title. Sheriff dept is useless. As soon as they find out .. illegals did it, they drop the matter. Can't even get a damn written report out of 'em. Well I got ONE. I had to purchase it. Because they sell them now. I paid 26 dollars to discover, they lied against me and disparaged me in that report so badly .. it looked bad. No one wants to take that to court the way they lied on me about MY house-keeping or lack their of. My house had been robbed and vandalized. They lost the finger prints. How convenient. They lost the evidence. The proof.
The deputies asking me stupid idiotic questions back then like.. are you sure this is your house?
Are you sure you live here? I didn't know at the time that Sgt. Black, and Sgt. White had already had a call from the illegals that pay them off. I know now. Now that my house is occupied by the thieves but I'm being saddled with the property taxes. Right to this very day.
The county and the State don't care about right or wrong. They just want money!
And you dirty rats pull this stunt on American citizens and hold this convention inviting more government officials including HUD to your little convention?!!!!!!
I would tell you to go take a flying leap and go straight down to H.E.L.L. - but that too is useless. You should all have to live in H.E.L.L. here on earth in the NOW! You need to learn a few things. You need to live through what I've been going thru over the last few to several years.
Don't get too comfortable. All that government pay off money your sniffing around looking for a piece of .. won't keep you safe in your country club mansions. What rolls down hill, hits bottom and back back up to the top. I've lived in country clubs myself. And in mobile homes too. There is no safe place. Not with all the corrupt gov officials, on the take and all the illegal aliens flooding this nation. It's more like 44 million illegals in this nation now. Nothing is safe anymore. They're even bringing leprosy to America! They get online and start smacking their lips online before they even get here. I've seen it! They're here in California. Everywhere. Robbing Everyone. They even rob each other. They're looking online at Kentucky from what I've seen. But don't worry, right? You'll get your palm greased by some corrupt lobby firm and you'll be fine in your big country club mansion somewhere. Right?
You dirty rats! You didn't invent the Tiny house movement! The creative and innovative American citizens did to escape the catastrophic housing cost and housing crises! Whatever, it's not like your decent people that have a conscience or any love for this Nation and your fellow countrymen. Your no better and no more human than the corrupt Dems and RINO's.
Animals don't even do to each other what your doing to your fellow countrymen. You dirty rats!

There is no required legislation needed. WAKE UP! People are already building these. They've been building for quite a while now. A lot of them are completely off-grid. or able to do both.
They're just there to lobby corrupt officials for YOUR tax dollars .. with legislation that will go on the books to price you out of the market. They're just in the swamp of DC to make $$$ for their own pocket and make life even harder for the avg person!

I'm a tiny homebuilder in a very restrictive town. I agree with Sec. Carson that innovation comes from the American people, not from the Feds. Thanks for showcasing these homes, and talking about the cost of over-regulation. For those who wonder why things are politicized, let me say: if you believe that innovation comes from below, that regulations can be onerous, that government should get out of the way, that people should be in charge of their own lives--congratulations you are a conservative/libertarian. I say this as a former Liberal, who looked around one day and said, holy moly! Government has mostly held me back, and I'm now a self-made man. Peace.

Individuals may have significant disabilities that impair their ability to find better-paying jobs.

Dr. Ben Carson has such a brilliant mind ...I highly recommend his book. Unfortunately, people focus too much on politics rather than individuals and the solutions said individuals have to offer! So many issues can be fixed with Tiny House Living/Permaculture. Composting toilets done right is more sanitary than flushing toilets and can address water shortages in the west and is an affordable solution to off-grid sanitation. The municipalities need to update archaic codes and be educated on how these systems work

Do they have stock we could invest in? If so maybe one day we can actually have a savings. Any companies you can recommend? This is the greatest idea I think anyone has had about saving America and our people for a long time. I have been striving to get investors to have some homeless shelters built even on my own property. But with the high codes and the prices of Housing and building it has been impossible for me to find anyone to help. Our goal should really be that no one and the United States of America should have to be homeless. Over half of our social security goes to mortgage the rest goes to utilities and basics. We have no money for food are for emergencies. Can anyone suggest how I could get some help. My husband and I are in our mid sixties living Washington State and have a cottage that was built buy a dishonest contractor. It ended up costing us twice what we wanted to put into it so all of my pension is gone. The cottage is also not up to code and the contractor that fixed everything although he is very honest said if the county knows about this they will tear it down. I am stuck between not being able to live in our Cottage and run out this mobile home we live in are somehow selling this place I'm finding somewhere we can have a tiny house built. We really need suggestions. That's 68 my husband is going back to work with a bad back. Our mortgage is almost 1700 and on Social Security well it's devastating. Money is wasted Thru the walls of our Mobile Home. I have no one to help me declutter since I've been chronic fatigue for 10 years. I could sure use some advice

I have been talking about purchasing a Tiny Home for many years! I've told my family, friends, and co-workers that I knew that there was going to be made a way for this to become a reality for me!!! I initially thought that I was going to have to move from DC in order to purchase what I have my heart set on. I do hope that this truly becomes a reality for Washingtonians and that ones who wish to purchase one will be able to enjoy such a home with likeminded people who want a beautiful home at an affordable cost and who will take pride in their home and be good models for a Tiny House Community. I watch the Tiny Homes programs alllllll the time and I'm constantly taking notes. I'm so excited about this prospect and I know that it is not a coincident that I came across this. I am soon to retire and do not and will not move from the DC area to purchase a Tiny Home bc I MUST see my grandson grow up. My only fear is that if these home are soley for a certain financial class of people, others will miss out on a great opportunity to be a part of something very nice. I hope that this will not be the case. I want to do this NOW or before or immediately following retirement! I'm sooo excited and look forward to more information!👍👍😄😀 🏡🏡🏡🌷🌷🌷

Tiny homes without the crawl only loft bedroom is a must for older Americans. The modular or box idea is perfect for an affordable retirement home.
The width limitation for a road worthy home is an issue. May as well just buy a motor home.

At the moment there is so much red tape and bureaucratic nonsense that is preventing these tiny homes from solving housing needs in America and all over the world. We need less regulations and more solutions. Tiny homes are definitely a solution to be considered.

I couldn’t believe the price! He said it included all the appliances😳 I live in Princeton NJ and my rent + utilities = $3200+ a month. I pay close to 40k a year in housing cost and while I would need 2 bedroom minimum, I could pay for one of these homes outright, but the the bureaucracies and finding the land is the problem. I think these homes are amazing.

Cities, counties and states must begin to embrace smaller energy efficient homes that can be afforded by a variety of people. We must all look for ways to reduce our resource consumption. The free 'Great Waves of Change' book is the essential resource each person needs to prepare themselves mentally, emotionally and practically for the great change that is coming. If enough people can undertake this preparation, humanity will have the strength, compassion and resilience to pass through the difficult period ahead into a New World reality.

Good question! In backyards, RV/THOW parks and tiny house specific communities in residential areas. Check out SearchTinyHouseVillage.com. There's a growing number of cities creating TH specific zoning for use as accessory dwelling units, in community settings like pocket neighborhoods, and occasionally on their own lot. Now there are a few states with statewide TH policy, like Washington. Learn more by watching our docu-series " Living Tiny Legally" (ruclips.net/p/PLlvBXhDyr9H3vVYh9UlqAuLQQ_rR8-Hph), and check out our Advocacy News and Tiny Home Communities webpages: tinyhouseexpedition.com

@@alexisstephens268 Hopefully this presentation helps on municipal level...as the owner of a campground, I've been targeted municipally with "trailer trash" bias and legislation. I want to create a THOW community, but I'm prevented from doing it because of that bias - I'm working on it though and federal acceptance (as evidenced in these videos) would go a long way!
-BTW I'm on the coast in Texas, if there's a TH org near me, I'd love to know.

This is a blessing to right the wrong of real estate over inflation and help people who work full time not have to sleep in their car because they live in an area where the rent is insane.. or help the homeless person who is mentally incapable of working, it would reduce the tax cost to house them better than the HUD section 8. And when you raise the dignity of the least member of society you improve the whole. God bless it!
