- A close look at the very first walkie talkies of the 1980s from Radioshack, the very wonderful 27Mhz AM walkie talkie the TRC-80, this well made compact little walkie talkie was very popular back in the day and was quite affordable, watch as I test to see if these 40 year old radios can still talk to each other.
Love the stranger radios episodes
Nice video, it made me smile to know , the quick brown fox has been jumping over the lazy dog for many years ;-)
Those are really neat. Great find. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and the comment 😎
Great episode and a good find! I have a couple of 3-band TRC-85 with 300mW in similar condition to these.
I have to say I enjoy your videos on this subject. I have quite a collection of those old walkie talkies and they still work and I have a lot of vintage base and mobile rigs. I’m over in the colonies and are a ham radio operator and a grms operator but I still use cb. I have midlands Lafayette’s pace realistic cobra president just to name a few. Anything radio is all good stuff. Oh I forgot to mention I have a hallicrafters cb handheld and a short wave receiver. Well 73’s as we say and keep up the good work!
I used to have many great products from Realistic. My favourite was a shortwave radio receiver... the Realistic Astronaut 4.
Nice pair of radios Paul in really nice condition. I love these videos they are great.
Thanks Gary! top man 😎
Another really good installment mate, nice set of radios and the condition is perfect! Lovely little test too, so good to get out there and play with radios! Looking forward to more! 73 for now
Cheers mate yes it's fun to mess about, these radios are in fantastic shape, I always play radio in the winter months, must like having cold hands 😀
I’ve been a walkie talkie nut since the 60s. Fun stuff indeed. I found a really bad toy walkie talkie that was supposed to 49mhz, which is technically not legal in Australia. Worse than that it actually works on 44mhz!
These were a step above bargain walkies, I really really like the vintage radios better than the new ones, the older radios made you feel like you've really done something by communicating at a distance.
Yes totally agree with you on that one 👍👍
As a new viewer of "stranger things" and a lover of radio. My eye widened when I seen the old Realistic (RS) radios on screen, and wanted to know are any of them FM, in the selection of radios on that old radioshack advert page? Great video.
Hi and thanks for watching, yes in the UK just a year later they were all fm but in the catalogs I show on the video they would all be am sets.
Richie Hingley all the sets made for the USA are AM
I love the look of these, and it seems they work pretty well. How close are the serial numbers? This is a great series.
Thanks I'll check the serial numbers
Clearly R132 68 to 180ohm in parallel with C130 limits voltage and current to the TX
and R127 22 to 100ohm in series with the base of the TX PA, limits drive, lower those
will up the TX output to at least US spec. Also R119 in series with the mic input
transformer secondary will be lowering mic gain, and C145 0.068uf will be dumping
too much mic to ground, either reduce it, or increase coupling cap C120 0.027uf
the mic audio is going into a capacitor voltage divider there
Just for record Tandy owned radioshack since 1963
we cant use fm cb I the us .there is too much interference to use am cb in cars from the fuel pumps and high voltage wires on poles
Why did you say you shouldnt use them? AM and SSB 27Mhz CB has been legal in the UK since June 2014
Yes that's right but they are not certified for use here they are only certified for use in America, I'll grant you the chances of getting busted are next to zero however if I don't mention it people mention it here in the comments.
Another note I have every walkie talkies that radioshack made, every model examples
You are amazing
I tend to shy away from anything referred to as "strange" or "stranger"
Especially women 😂
