you are missing a huge key point, where this truck is a true body on frame pick up and not a unibody like Rivian or the Silverado. It is more like a F150 lightning in that way.
Also, solid axles, mechanical locking diffs, sway bar disconnect and bench seat. This is the overlanding crowds dream ev with the range extender. Personally I don’t want one but there are a lot of Jeep and Tacoma drivers who will. I do agree that 3 years is too long.
Alex, obviously you're not much of an outdoor or off road enthusiast. That's why you don't understand what they're trying to achieve. Their potential customers will be very different than people who buy a Rivian or Cybertruck. They're going after Bronco, Wrangler, Gladiator, Tacoma, Raptor, etc., customers. It's been announced that 85% of the pre orders are with the range extender. If they come out with 200 miles of all EV range, plus a gas range extender on top of that, they'll have a winning combination. They'll also need to be significantly lighter that a 7,000 lb Rivian to compete in the Bronco/Wrangler market.
I love it and hope they sell like hot cakes! A lot of older guys, which America is, will LOVE the Scout name being brought back. And it's gonna made in the US and create thousands of American jobs, what's not to like!
I love the Scout. Shorter wheelbase SUV than Rivian with a longer truckbed with extender option. Made in USA and I hope VW can get it rolling sooner than 3yrs. They can't afford to wait. 🤞 R2 will be $45k, right? Good to have options.
It looks perfect to me and finally someone had the balls to chop the roof off. This is basically the first convertible EV that is a decent size. The specs seem perfectly fine too and the interior looks beautiful. Can't wait for this one. I hope the rear window in the SUV rolls down too. I was excited for the new GTI but this one is even a bit more appealing with that roof.
VW never gets product to market before projection dates. This plant was first stated to be building EVs in 2026. Now just like the ID 4 and the Buzz wait for it wait for it
“Why should we do it” well the brand is for North America. It’s bringing back a nostalgic name plate, the machines if follow to the specs will be a very good machine for off roading.
VW is doing this to go around their dealer network. This hurts the VW dealer, because now VW is directly competing against them. VW hinted at that in the reveal, saying you can fix this thing yourself.
@@73gent16 they said at the presser that they will open service centers as well as a hint of mobile services. they also stated that you can fix 80% yourself.
The Scout brand could be a huge hit and one that VAG could use for the parent company. The ID Buzz is too expensive to be relevant, but Scout might be the ticket. It looks like a real utility vehicle than the body cladded minivans that are passed off as SUVs these days.
Charging speed, they didn't say what the speed was. 800 volt pack, so charging should be good. There is plenty of time to use any new battery technology before it is launched. As a current R1S owner Scout will be more capable offroad.
Actually , half the cars in the day had round headlights, the other half had square. There was nothing special in the day about round headlights. The unique feature of the Scouts was the unique shape of the whole headlight and grill surround, and the short wheelbase. And this new iteration recreates and modernizes that beautifully. As for why the market needs this, well, for the same reason that we need Jeep, or Bronco etc. Because North Americans love "outdoors" vehicles, even though most never leave the pavement.
The most classic Scout cars as people remember them have round headlines. And you know it. And you completely missed my point about why we don't need this brand. It already has pretty much exactly the same specs as other brands except for this one won't hit the market 3 years from now when the specs will be outdated.
Well, I'm VERY excited for Scout... As far as EV brands go... The more the merrier... And the better more competitive pricing we should get. I have a reservation for a Rivian, but I'd rather have the Traveler TBH. Personally... I think you're wrong about it being a "Dud". They have great specs, and pricing, and design is better than Rivian.
I had an old high mileage Scout Traveler. It was a beast but ultimately died of rust. Mostly made of left over International Harvester school bus and truck parts with only a token effort at styling, what made the Scout so wonderful was its brutal simplicity. Listening to their official intro made me want to barf. I love EVs, would absolutely buy the original Bollinger design if VW built it. But not this. The VW Scout is an abomination.
an ev. and an option with a range extender would be ok but I think they should have made a Ford Maverick size pickup. with the proper round headlights Of course.. now Ford can simply do that. and take the Bronco sport lights (round), put them on the maverick, and make it an EV (or plug in hybrid) and call it the Ford Maverick Scout
The whole point is to get capital out of Germany and into the safe-haven of the USA. Germany is no longer cost effective due to a lack of cheap Russian hydrocarbons, which has a knock on effect with the wage bill.
There is nothing about the Scout that even gives me a glimmer of the essence of what it was. A pickup for farmers was it's true beginnings. Simple and easy to repair and the parts were at your International Harvester dealer which was probably closer than a car dealer. They used the Scout name to create a new brand with currently no dealers. It evolved to being something a little better than a jeep of WW2. This thing looks like it is a Hummer wanna be. This is probably where the Rivian tech is going first if they are smart.
Too much, too late. It will be around less than 5 years & not sell. According to a Bloomberg report, the top 20% of American households, with an average income of around $265,000, account for approximately 65% of new car purchases, indicating that a significant majority of new cars are bought by high-income earners.
Praising if Ford did it??? The Lightning is a flop!! The Scout is much more practical for most people who use a truck using the gas extender. This is a big deal if they deliver on it. A full frame truck that isn’t just a golf cart like every other EV. The Terra will be much more popular than you think.
Ford did it best, having the Bronco based on two existing Ford platforms. Today with both Bronco & Jeep sales down, the fragrance is off the rose on these $70k+ elevated phone booths. They're noisy, expensive to buy and own. GM should have brought out the Hummer HX as a Hybrid. Hummer is still looking for mid-price vehicle to bring into the brand. Who else is making these off-road beast that ride 79% on city streets? Can you say VehiCROSS?
Are they actually trying to sell that many? The Bronco sells less than that and it's considered a huge success. The Tacoma is the best selling mid size pickup in the US and they sell a little over 200,000 a year.
Oh yay, yet another four door "pickup truck" with a 5 foot bed. This will be great for soccer moms, just like every other "pickup truck" made by every other company these days.
I get the gist of your video, but its a pretty closed minded take- maybe give it a chance before you deliver an avalanche of "in the know" criticism. I won't be shocked to see your predictions come true but its ok to be hopeful. Maybe they'll put round headlights in since they have 3yrs to get it sorted..
Doesn't everyone understand that cars and trucks appeal to everyone differently. If they have the money to spread their appeal out in different areas let them. It looks similar to Rivian but also different enough to appeal to maybe some other people. Also, even though they invested in Rivian it doesn't mean they have control of Rivian. Maybe they want their own Rivian and there is plenty of room for that too. As long at it takes market shares from Tesla I am all for it. I really don't like what Musk has been saying and doing.
It's a no-brainer, another bloated SUV / truck that has a little bit of resemblance to the awesome Scout a few people that are over 60 remember, looks good. Even if it was a rebadged Rivian, getting rid of the stupid rivian headlights would be a huge Improvement. If it takes more than 2 years to get to market it may be DOA.
definately a democrat ,, you seem salty as you pushed evs into people lives !! i'm not an ev fanboy but given body on frame legit solid axles and near perfect for off road and out door enthusiast seems like a softer transfer yet your against change unless it's approved by your partiality and your brand brashing! we get it id4 was'nt good to you !
Yeah, he should stop blabbing. The market will decide on the success of this vehicle, like others. Times are a changing. This new Scout Series looks very nice and capable.

So what? Who is going to buy them? They look like Rivians.
VW throwing more money in a stagnant market while shutting down plants in Germany.

Drop a Diesel straight 6 in it. Then Im sold!
The brand is a startup in the Volkswagen Group that is acting like a startup that previews future Volkswagen product offerings.
Alex is right! Now excuse me. I gotta trade in my Volvo for a Polestar
I love it and hope they sell like hot cakes! A lot of older guys, which America is, will LOVE the Scout name being brought back. And it's gonna made in the US and create thousands of American jobs, what's not to like!

It has shorter wheel base than rivian? You sure? The pickup has longer wheelbase than f150

I beg to differ, if the specs are decent, these will definitely sale in America because of the style
Who and where are they supposed to be serviced at?
@@73gent16 they said at the presser that they will open service centers as well as a hint of mobile services. they also stated that you can fix 80% yourself.
@@73gent16 I also assume that VW Dealers will be given the option to be service centers.
What a terrible take. Did you even pay attention?
The Scout brand could be a huge hit and one that VAG could use for the parent company. The ID Buzz is too expensive to be relevant, but Scout might be the ticket. It looks like a real utility vehicle than the body cladded minivans that are passed off as SUVs these days.

They have owned navistar for years..making large trucks. Scout is the original suv back in the 60s
I think Scout targets more the Wrangler, Bronco and 4Runner buyer wheras Rivian targets more the Range Rover buyer.
The new factory being built in south carolina will be building other stuff besides scout.
I had an old high mileage Scout Traveler. It was a beast but ultimately died of rust. Looks like the best thing VW has done in years
VW is closing plants. Does this Scout brand make sense?
The whole point is to get capital out of Germany and into the safe-haven of the USA. Germany is no longer cost effective due to a lack of cheap Russian hydrocarbons, which has a knock on effect with the wage bill.

Im excited about them if they donwhat they say they are going to be netter then anything currently on the market
It's a contest with Rivian to see who could lose the most money.
I will buy this.

Seen a lot of id buzz in amsterdam, the delivery van sliding cargo door style, all where commercial vehicles

By passing REGULATORS/MAFIOSO.
VW already makes SUVs, more than they make cars, for the US market. So Scout is stupid.
Stupid to you maybe but not others 😂
It is not an EV, They still use gas, 3 row EVs are needed but this thing will never hit 200,000 a year, then they will cancel it.
Are they actually trying to sell that many? The Bronco sells less than that and it's considered a huge success. The Tacoma is the best selling mid size pickup in the US and they sell a little over 200,000 a year.
VW has a $5 billion investment in rivian
VW makes lots of real trucks,in their man, scannia, navistar brands.
sorry but scout models base on scouts old design
Oh yay, yet another four door "pickup truck" with a 5 foot bed. This will be great for soccer moms, just like every other "pickup truck" made by every other company these days.
Exactly my point

Another VW nothingburger ... Looks like a Rivian competitor after VW invested $5B in Rivian. Seems a bit odd!

Actually, the SUV looks a lot like the orig. Scout II and shares quite a few body lines.
Rivian all the way. The Scout will have all Rivian electrical and software.
VW dealers suing VW over the Scout direct to consumer sales model

Shameful empty headed rage bait right here folks. Is the entire channel like this? I think it's a waste of time and a dud already after one video.
Right. Imagine thinking that your comment matters even a little. Sad
