Good video March Best coral store in all of Ontario Anyone watching and wanting one go down and see them at the store They are the best won’t sell you stuff you don’t need and will help with needing to know anything
I got mine tank for $87 here in the states. It was on sale for $149.00 but because it was on the wrong shelf the sales person insisted I only pay $87. LOL
Got mine running with live sand/ rock, water from lfs, 2 clown fish after cycle. I recommend intank media basket to replace the stock sponge, it tends to trap detritus. After tax, fully running with sand and rock with 2 clowns, minus the media basket cost me under $300.
I had similar prices early too. I didn’t think it was too expensive to get it running. After all the upgrades I added after though are well over $300. Like media baskets and an ai prime
@@richiehall6015 I got the intank media too. But I kept the stock light after seeing what it could handle in my dad's tank. I was impressed. I added 2 blue 15 inch led strips that are waterproof under the hood with suction cups on both sides of the stock light with a timer to have ramp in am and pm. Holy crap did it make a huge difference. Getting good sps growth with this setup. No skimmer and kept the hood so no ato needed either. This tank is a beast!
@@Mmanifesto22 I think the stock light can handle the coral I want but what do you think about not being able to program? I have kessil 160s on my 40 gallon with a controller it’s so much easier than manually turning on and off.
@@jp89il so I put my light on a timer for 8 hours and bought 2, 15 inch blue led strips from Amazon and attached them to the stock hood on each side of the light. They have built in timers and have multiple brightness settings. I set one blue strip for 10am, the second for 11am and then the main light at noon. The blues are set to 12 hours so they stager on in the morning and stager off after the main light goes out at 8. Blues from 8 to 11pm with each blue shutting down an hour apart. So 3 stage basically. I'll send the link to the lights in another post
Nice video. I just purchased an Evo 13.5 and your start up is pretty spot on. There is a less expensive RODI unit on amazon it : AQUATICLIFE Aquatic Life RO Buddie Plus DI Four Stage Reverse Osmosis Deionization Unit 50 GPD. That should make plenty of water for the tank. I hope you have a who series on the Evo. Keep up the good work! Subbed...
Ive got a 20g currently with some corals I've bought from you, but now I got a giftcard for a fish store to buy a bigger tank. Im not sure what I want though, because I would love to keep cooler fish like a coral beauty angel and maybe some bigger wrasses, but I love the look of the fluval evo 13.5 and im torn between which one too get XD. Bigger tanks tend to be easier to keep, so I may go with that.
After reading your comment I have to tell u my experience. I got back into the hobby and went with the 30g inovative marine aio tank. Set it up, cycled, added live stock, things were good. Bought my dad the evo 13.5 about 6 months later. I'm not gonna get into it too much, but something about the evo 13.5 and the way it filters is unreal. I've had zero issues with the stock evo 13.5, but my 30g Im aio is nothing but issues. Even with 2 extra power heads in it I was getting dead flow areas that caused problems later on. The peninsula style is the key I think... I actually ended up breaking down my 30g after a year of struggle and picked up the evo to replace it. Now we have 2 evos that take less maintenence together than my one 30g. I'm also not using a protein skimmer, just replace the foam block with a better media basket. I made some out of egg create or you could check out intank media baskets. The evo13.5 is the best aoi tank I've ever owned
Are you located close to the go station? I’m from Brantford and want to get my supplies from you, debating ordering or just taking the train from Aldershot
Ive been looking at one of these Evos. Ran a beautiful (and very expensive) 180 fully stocked reef for about 10 years, kids came and family stuff so we sold it all off. Then got a used 29g bio cube, did some upgrades to it and ran it for 3 years and ran into a massive crash so shut it down. I was wondering your opinion on a bare bottom/starboard bottom on one of these. I have a sheet of black cutting board/starboard material (food safe) that I had bought a few years back in hopes of re doing the bio cube but the crash happened and we tossed in the towel on that on that despite my best efforts. I figure the black starboard should look decent and protect the bottom from rock. This little 13.5 seems to be the way to go with the research Ive done and for what we want. Obviously with some upgrades along the way but seems fairly solid out of the box. Still have the 5 stage Ro/DI system and various gadgets I have saved to start one up again.
@@fishfan2 Yea...I'd hate to think how much we spent on that over the many years we ran it. But it sure was a beautiful and healthy reef for years. I have a few videos on my channel from years back of it.
$50?? Im looking into it and the cheapest one I have found is on Amazon for $250, with an additional $100 of shipping.. Guess that’s the downside of not living in the states..

It would be great if you guys did a tank without changing the light.
For a small tank like this, just use distilled instead of RODI. No one is using copper distillery systems anymore. Stainless steel is way cheaper.
My favourite way of measuring salt is with a hydrometer. The device is prone to errors and calibration issues.

Just stick em up on both sides next to the stock light under the hood. I have 2 fluval 13's set up this way going strong with tons of LPS and softies.

I just got this tank and I was thinking two clown fish and a goby with a pistol shrimp. Probably cant put anymore fish than that right?
That's safe
Bought this tank from Fragbox this week. March was very helpful and took his time to explain everything. Highly recommended 👍🏾
Thank you !
What’s your Ai prime light settings plz . I have the same tank but having problems I want to do it all sps
Luckily I have buckets I fill at my LFS for 50 cents a gallon for Red Sea black bucket water. Every two weeks I do a 5 gallon water change
I NEED ONEEE
I bought a tank to similar to this, a 15 gallon though, do you think i will need a protein skimmer
What about the mini protein skimmer?? Is it really necessary??
It depends, its highly recommended because it gives many benefits that a filter doesn't but its not necessary
Mine is running great and I started it up with 170 bucks
Awesome, I left a comment a few weeks ago asking for a breakdown. Thanks for coming through!
Pretty close to what I spent to start mine, I got the powerhead and thermometer as well, can't wait until I can add some coral and critters
Do a video about mr digz
Bowl reef. 2 gallon...
Brilliant video! Good to see your costs!

Great video as always. Those stats on male viewers are interesting! Shout-out to Tia :)
a little surprising !
Will the premix filtered water replace the reef salt?
I think so
I just started one myself! I got mine for $50 with a gift card and being on sale for the holidays. I think I am going to do all zoas in it.
