I like your reasoning, but I believe that Legolas is a lot older than that, based on his remarks when they entered Fangorn. ‘”It is old, very old. So old that I almost feel young again, as I have not felt since I journeyed with you children." Aragorn was 90 at the time, and Gimli 139. Somehow I don't think Legolas would have referred to them as children, unless he was much, much older than they. The mithril shirt could also be much older, and not delivered due to some conflict over payment or other circumstances.
Yeh it could be. But it’s hard to think what Prince it could have been for who is unaccounted for. Legolas was still multiples bolder than their age and familiar enough to call them children even if not fully serious. If I was Legolas I’d call Gimli a child even if I was 1 year older 😅. But who knows really. That’s what makes it fun 😄
I dont think the mithril shirt is a clue since when Tolkien wrote the Hobbit Legolas was not even a thought in his mind. Nor was the name Thranduil for the Elven King of Mirkwood. Also i doubt the mithril shirt was forged in The Lonely Mountian. There was no mithril in the Mountian. It would have been brought from Khazad Dum after the dwarves fled the Balrog. There are hints in the LotR book Legolas is a lot older than 200 odd years. He mentions he has seen many oak grow from acorn to ruinous age. Oak trees live about 300 years. Also when he sees the buriel mounds of the kings of Rohan and Aragorn mentions many long lives of men since the Golden Hall has been built. Legolas says that 500 times (500 years) has the leaves of Mirkwood fell but a little while does that seem to us. So he is much older. I would even guess he is over a thousand years old maybe
Nice observations. I suspect much mithril would have made it out of Khazad Dum while on its raw form. I think Gandalf mentions the orcs sent a lot Sauron’s way. It’s most likely Tolkien wrote the line before he invented Legolas but if we take the statements as true then Legolas seems the only candidate which is fun to imagine. He may be older but I’ll have to reread those lines about leaves and men. It’s possible he was speaking figuratively and on behalf of elves as a whole.. but it’s also curious why an age of birth period was never given for him. Thanks for the comment. 🙏🏼 Ps. Are we sure the leaves of Lorien fall once a year even? Those are no regular trees. Galadriel may have some secret sauce that slows their aging and they fall once in a hundred years. Unless it’s somewhere I can’t recall.
@@FairlyFictional the comment about his age are found in The Two Towers. Legolas was referring to the leaves of Mirkwood, his home, not Lorien. I don't know if the Dwarves would have fled Khazad Dum with loads of raw mithril or mithril ingots. I think they left pretty quickly after the Balrog killed 2 of their kings within a years time but they could have. But we also have to look at Legolas's fathers age as well. Thranduil was born in the first age and lived in Doriath, making him very old by the time the Dwarves founded Erebor. His father, Oropher, led some of the Sindar east and they ended up in Mirkwood and the Silvan (wood elves) there made Oropher thier king. Both Oropher and Thranduil fought in the Last Alliance of Elves and Men and Oropher was killed in the Battle of Dagorlad. So Thranduil himself is very old so I can't imagine he would wait thousands and thousands of years to have a son. Of course we know nothing about Legolas's mother or whether she was a Sindar Elf or a Silvan Elf. Thranduil could have waited until after the Last Alliance to marry and have a child since he was now king and needed an heir. But still that puts Legolas still about 2000 years of being born before the dwarves founded Erebor for the first time. Remember they only stayed there for about 200 years before they left and went to the Grey Mountians and stayed in the Grey Mountians for about 400 years before the dragons ran them out and they went back to Erebor. But, yes it is fun to speculate how old Legolas is since we are never given a date and we know nothing about his mother. I think he was born after the Last Alliance and in the early years of the Third Age because we know he didn't fight in the Last Alliance or that would have been mentioned in LotR book. Or he could have been too young or maybe old enough but his father and grandfather told him to stay behind on case they both die in battle and they needed a heir to the throne to stay behind just in case. But we never will know. Of course Legolas could have seen the mithril shirt when it was revealed Froda had it and said, "hey that's supposed to be mine. Give it back" lol
In the Unfinished Tales (or one of his other earlier writings) the 1st age city of Gondolin was sacked by Melkor and its greatest champion that killed a Balrog was an elf named Legolas Greenleaf. He changed it later to be Glorfindel but Legolas was already in his stories way back then. Possibly before he started on the Hobbit.
That’s interesting. I forgot there was a Legolas at Gondolin. But I don’t remember if he killed a balrog or was later renamed to Glorfindel or not. But it’s not the same elf as the Legolas we all know.
I don’t know what an orc needs to do to get some love but this troll just needed to step up and talk to her. Oh, not what you were talking about? Are you sure? You are. Well then what the hell were you talking about? 😅
Ah, greetings, Troll. It is not polite to keep Krug waiting. In Krug’s domain, trolls are but dull witted servants of more intelligent and well groomed beings. Now get back in the cave and clean the dwarf blood out of my cooking apron. Krug, out!
You suggest I paint 60-100 images per video 😂? Or I should just steal other people art and movie images maybe 🤔. The images I want dont even exist. If you think it’s easy or lazy give it a try and see how it turns out. Also given how much AI they used to make the movies 20yrs ago and seeing what Amazon have done I think we are beyond what anyone may or may not think.
@@FairlyFictional There is an argument that AI "art" is actual theft as it is based on the works of unnamed sources. I think you should react less pissy when people criticise that even though I acknowledge the OP was rude.
@Crafty_Spirit there's an argument for many things, like the world is flat, or that the luddites were right to smash spinning jennies in the 1600's to stop progress, but that doesn't make them correct. As for art it's all influenced borrowed and inspired both by what exists in reality and of course everything already created, AI is nothing more or less it is a mishmash and rehash of images and photos, interpreted by human created programming and human prompts. There is no other "art" out there portraying Elves,Wizards and Hobbits with birthday cakes, this is a unique creation not theft of an "artist's" art.
Tolkien based all his ideas for his works on myths, legend and folklore from across Europe and maybe wider, so I would not be so certain about how he might feel. But if you don't like the effort taken by the creator, by all means start your own Tolkien lore channel and you can commission and pay for art for your backdrops or draw them yourself if you have the artistic capability. I'll be happy to watch if you provide a link.
