    The spray bomb job is good enough in my opinion. I wouldn't waste the money on having a pro re-paint later. Just throw them on and enjoy the bike. Great attention to detail with the build, and you chose nothing but the best for parts.

    Congrats on the bike mate, absolute ripper and the parts list is insane. Its probably been covered in a previous vid but would be keen for a rundown on the motor. Im currently trying to decide motor/cam setups.

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 года назад +4

      Thanks brother! I actually looked back last night to see, I don't think I covered the engine. I'll make a video going over all the details I hope. It's a 88ci timken motor bored to 95ci. I had a NOS Harley crank that I welded the pin. All Feuling parts this time: race series cam plate with hydraulic tensioners, race series oil pump, 543 cams, beehive valve springs, pushrods, lifters. Wiseco pistons and 06+ heads I ported, polished and milled on my Bridgeport. Coming in at 11:1 compression.

    • @jimmyrustles8118
      @jimmyrustles8118 3 года назад +1

      @@EngineersGarage1 Very nice man, sounds like it'll be a hot motor. Compression releases? Im aiming for a milder (and super budget setup since I got heaps of stuff dirt cheap) setup, 95in, timken bottom end, SE cast piston 10.25 pistons, fueling OE or S&S cam chest, 06+ heads, SS570 EZ start cams, and around 10.4 static comp.
      I also had to laugh about that Mikuni chatter in the end. Ive heard blokes swap to S&S carbs because they hate the noise of it. I dont mind it at all and would deal with that noise over an SS carb anyday.

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 года назад

      @@jimmyrustles8118 Should be a pretty stout setup, I'll be happy if I hit 100hp. I'm using the stock auto compression releases in the 06+ heads. Also using a 84t ring gear.
      That should be a ripper for a budget set-up. All good parts to have gotten on the cheap.
      This is my third mikuni and I'm not sure why this one caught my ear. I guess building from split cases up myself made my ears very sensitive, listening to see if I screwed anything up. Hahaha doesn't bother enough to run anything else, S&S are lawn tractor carbs imo.

    You had the right idea but you need an airbrush to make the pin stripes how you laid them out.

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 года назад +1

      Yeah and I have one. But it's another situation where only way to match it was spray outs since the paint isn't made anymore. I just happened to have these exact match, unopened 30 year old Harley touch up bottles.

    • @dustinguriel620
      @dustinguriel620 3 года назад

      @@EngineersGarage1 you can actually pour that touch up into the air brush with just some thinner and it will spray fine to do those pinstripes

    Beautiful build, great job on that ripper. When you ordered the Thrashin AR exhaust, did you order the Dyna or FXR model?

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  2 года назад

      Thank you! I talked to the guys there and in so many words they said their headpipe is the same from a FXR to a Dyna. So I ordered one for a FXR so I'd get the right bracket. Also I had some extra exhaust systems around that I test fit. A bassani FXR specific road rage 3 did not fit, hit the dyna foot controls I had. The bassani Greg lutzka off my 2015 dyna fit great.

    Nice bike - weighs about the same as my '06 XL1200R...... what power do you think it'll make ? - it's got to be well over a hundred with all the work you got in it !
    My Sporty is hot-rodded to about 95bhp, my twincam is hot-rodded to about 130 ( it's a 113" 2010 model Streetbob), so a bike with the weight of a late Sporty but more power will be fun - my twincam weighs about 100lb more than your FXR/twinkie, but it don't look anywhere near as good !
    Oh, and I could hear that carb slide rattle straight off.... still ain't got used to it after 9 years on the Sporty !.... got one on my twinkie as well.

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  3 года назад

      Only goal is 100hp, that's what I'd like to see. I'm sure it can probably do 110 depending on my porting skills. but I'll find out probably spring time. I'm sure that sporty rips, the xl1200r is a killer bike to start. I built a turbo sporty that made 86hp on 5 lbs of boost that was pretty fun, back before I filmed stuff. I think my ears were very sensitive to any new noises as I listened for problems since I build this from the cases up myself, 3rd mikuni I owned but first time I ever noticed the noise.

    • @thakery5720
      @thakery5720 3 года назад +1

      @@EngineersGarage1 If you rebuilt your engine to an 'as new' condition then you will be listening more for sure, but if you did a good job and the engine itself doesn't have much mechaical noise then you will notice the carb rattle more..... I got quite frustrated with it at first, and don't forget that you don't hear the exhaust noise when you are riding - it's all left in your wake !

  • @dukenukem8493
    @dukenukem8493 Год назад

    Is the shock in the exact same location on the new swing arm, as it would be if stock fxr? Bc the swing-arm now looks straight up and down?

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  Год назад

      The swingarm is original. I changed out the strut covers. The frame has holes for both shock positions, just depends on what covers you use. I have mine in the RP/RT position.(more up and down)

  • @Junior-fd8ux

    Brother those rear shocks are the tits! Iv been looking for something to replace my blah factory’s but obviously want them to be chrome/polished as I have the same bike and I can’t bring myself to by the progressive deals. Mind me asking roughly the damage I’m looking at or another good choice you might know of? I really want to upgrade my breaks and rear shocks done this summer. Thanks and amazing job

    • @EngineersGarage1
      @EngineersGarage1  2 года назад

      Thanks man I appreciate the feedback! The shocks were definitely the most expensive part of my build. $2000. I feel like it was worth the price since I don't plan on ever getting rid of the bike and race tech will rebuild them if needed. Another good alternative for a polished/chrome shock are bitubos.
