You were right the first time. Professor Gerald Robotnik is still Eggman's grandfather in the movie.
Eggman called him "Pop pop", which can also just be how one calls their grandfather.
As for how he's still alive, THAT is a mystery. We'll just have to wait and see.

i would love to see the closeup to gerald face crying in slow motion when he's holding Maria's body while hundred of GUN soldiers surrounding them...that would hit hard on theater

And having a scene with Jim Carrey showing serious and sad emotions (not the crazy ones) would definitely be something really unexpected for the audiences. 😢

Why do people pause when watching a trailer?
Think of it like this if you play the whole video without pauses and not saying anything that’s basically reuploading the trailer on your channel. Your channel could be in trouble for that. Also pausing helps you get out the things you wanna say without missing anything. It’s just the best thing to do. In my older videos i tried to say what I want to say at the end but i end up having to remove my video. Hope that makes sense.
