    Another great battle report. When those Panzer IVs bailed (instead of killing) 3/4 M10s and then they remounted, game was over.

    Great battle report as always, love the gutsy attack from Sean. I would consider using the 9th Panzer WC, it would save you loads of points since you have a lot of formation units which can be used to buy pioneer WC (overcome minefields), bolster your Gren Pls so they can lead assaults and maybe some recce to get you further forward. Lovely looking minis!

(you'll see that I previously commented on it) Watching it again, even tho' I haven't played much since then I have played a few games and watched a few, I understand much more what is going on. :thumbsup: American armored rifle platoon is one of my favorite units but I don't play them well. Assaulting infantry with panzer IV’s was very dangerous! But he was lucky to cross the bocage with his panzer company 😮 Grenadiers weren’t well used I think... M10’s did their job, reserves confirmed US victory... Very nice battle report - as usual: the best on RUclips 👍🏻👍🏻

    Hi John,
    Great game as always, really enjoyed the narrative nature of the germans pushing hard, even in too the face of a stalwart defence due to pursuing Americans.
    I'll have to give this scenario a go.
    I appreciate Sean's aggressive play style and totally agree that it makes for a more exciting game. Some of the very best games of fow I've had were when both players went aggressive. Yes, it may not win you tournaments, but it sure as hell makes for a fun game.
    All the best.

    @21:43 I'm a bit confused - the German player couldn't have won the game because he needs to *begin* his turn with a team within 10cm of the Objective in order to be Holding it at the end of the turn.

    Great report, fair and fun, although luck at some point for the US (with good target priority) made the game.
    As I am painting a PzIV company, I will remember NEVER to assault infantry that has good anti-tank weapons ! Use Tigers for this. The german player really asked for it by attacking like 3 times with the same results (loosing more tanks than he removed infantry)...
    Love the terrain and the minis btw !

    Would have been better to move up the grenadier instead of babysitting the artillery. They would have helped alot in pushing the armoured rifles of the objectives, The table made the german angle of attack quite painful too, but nice and cinematic for a Falaise breakout attempt. Note to American: deploy in front of the objective when possible, and never ever leave your foxholes in a defensive battle. GG

  • @zxcvbob
    @zxcvbob 2 года назад

    If you move one stand or vehicle in a platoon (what's that called, a team?) does the entire platoon suffer a penalty for having moved? Logically, I would say no. We looked in the rule book last night and it appears they do so that's how we played. I'll have to find the page number. I see that come up several times on this video and it looks like only the ones that actually moved take a penalty.

    • @AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall
      @AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall  2 года назад

      Hi, It really depends. things like Blitzs, when failed penalize the whole Unit (platoon). Shooting at your moving or halted rate of fire is determined on a team by team basis. See the shooting section under Roll to Hit --> How Many Dice.

    • @AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall
      @AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall  2 года назад +1

      That game was a long time ago but I believe it worked like this. The Panzer assaulted the infantry, was bailed out and the Germans could not counter attack so the Americans "won" the assault. The Germans have to fall back outside of 6" of the americans but the bailed out tank can't move so it's assumed as destroyed. Hope that helps!

    • @freshviolets
      @freshviolets 4 года назад

      @@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall Ok I'm just wondering because from some books I've read, the hedgerows in Normandy were feet thick dirt, reinforced with roots. Good to know, as hedgerows are a part of the beginning of Late War, as much as D-Day

    • @RockinL7BuckingBulls
      @RockinL7BuckingBulls 4 года назад

      I have been to Normandy and saw hedgerows that were blown up during the war as well as some that were never touched and are centuries old. You can’t see through a solid hedgerow unless you climb inside of it. In my opinion and in my games ,a tank has to be right up on the hedgerow as if pushing its barrel through it to fire through it. There definitely not like a wood. Google hedgerow and see.

    That game was lost only by looking at the armylist and the deplyment, using the 10.5 and the PAK 40 in a Breakthrough Mission? Why not deploying the PAK 40 so that they can shoot at the reserves? Then why only these small Infantry Platoons? Marching right in the direction of a Minefield? I don`t blame Sean, but can't you help him out if he is new in the rules? Table is great, Armies too, but it is like leading someone to the battle bench.

    • @AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall
      @AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall  4 года назад +1

      Hello and thanks for watching and I appreciate the comments! We typically don't list build to a particular scenario. Sean knew he would be facing Armored Rifles but that was about it. Sean isn't new to the rules at all but is new to V4 late war.
      Regarding the Pak40 deployment we did talk about it during the game. You could deploy them to take on the reserves, but honestly this mission isn't won by destroying the Allied reserves, just taking the objective. As it was I think the Pak 40s were the only thing that actually killed allied Tanks, (1 M10 and a Sherman).
      I totally agree it was an uphill battle for the Germans but it did capture the flavor of the German Breakout from the Falaise Pocket. And, as it was, due to my wonky deployment Sean almost won on turn 2.

    • @tabletopgeneralsde310
      @tabletopgeneralsde310 4 года назад +2

      @@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall , it is fine that you don't optimize the lists, but they (PAK 40) still could worked out as a rearguard, because they can't take the objective. On the other hand in the Falaise Pocket there where some unit they make it out, by the cost of all heavy equipment.
      Btw John, i have seen it in many of your games, you mostly have the better list and are the more experienced player, which does not help to make these games exciting. It is also very significant that only your mistake in almost the victory has made possible.

    As much as I love filmed batreps, showing every dice roll does come a bit tedious after a while 🙂.
    Maybe just turn summaries would suffice - with highlights of key parts. It would cut down the whole film into a more digestible time length.
    Just my opinion of course 👍👍

      I think the congested map due to mine fields and bocage hindered a complete push but thought the push on to the objective turn 2 was ballsy and could have won it. Ironically, it was Patton-esq!!

  • @insomniacbritgaming1632
    @insomniacbritgaming1632 3 года назад

    Taking all your tanks in a virtual column down the centre of the map, not too clever, you ended up limiting your movement capability and left alot of your infantry exposed without any support. PZ IV's are troop support tanks.
