I will be going over each group of disorders in the coming weeks and letting you know about changes I find in the prevalence, risk, suicide, culture and gender, differential dx, functional consequences and comorbidity sections as well as UP to DATE research about these things.
As a clinician I really love your videos. I almost exclusively watched your videos for three months prior to taking the NCE and was able to pass easily and I always come back to this channel to keep myself sharp. Thank you for the informative content!
Hi! I am student currently getting her masters in MFT and I am so looking forward to using your channel as a resource in my studies and in preparing for my exam! Thank you for what you do.

Differences between OCD in DSM-5 and DSM-5 TR: * Diagnostic Criteria: The core diagnostic criteria for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) have remained largely consistent between the DSM-5 and the DSM-5-TR. Both editions require the presence of obsessions, compulsions, or both, and these symptoms must be time-consuming (taking more than one hour per day) or cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. * Prevalence Rates: The DSM-5-TR may include updated prevalence rates based on the latest research. For example, it was noted that the prevalence of OCD symptoms related to contamination and illness increased during certain periods, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, but this was not necessarily reflected in other types of obsessions and compulsions. * Comorbidity and Differential Diagnosis: The DSM-5-TR may provide more detailed guidance on comorbidity and differential diagnosis, helping clinicians distinguish OCD from other disorders with overlapping symptoms, such as autism spectrum disorder, PTSD, and illness anxiety disorder. * Specifiers and Subtypes: The DSM-5-TR may introduce or clarify specifiers and subtypes for OCD, which can help in tailoring treatment to the individual's specific symptoms and needs. * Cultural Considerations: The DSM-5-TR may include additional cultural considerations to ensure that OCD is diagnosed appropriately across diverse populations, taking into account cultural variations in the expression of symptoms. * Associated Features: The DSM-5-TR may expand on the associated features of OCD, including a broader range of related behaviors and potential impacts on the individual's life. It's important to note that while there may be updates and clarifications in the DSM-5-TR, the fundamental nature of OCD as a disorder remains consistent with the description provided in the DSM-5. The DSM-5-TR serves to refine and enhance the understanding of the disorder based on new research and clinical experience. Learn more for FREE at AllCEUs.com/DocSnipes-AI
I have virtually no reason to know these things but psych is such a passion of mine that I am always excited to learn more and discuss it with anyone who will tolerate "nerding out" with me. That said, this video was deeply interesting to me. Thanks for breaking this down!
I missed the live . Thank you, for the review of the changes DSM IV-T-R . I have to purchase the new edition as a psychology grad student. Yes , seven year research is out of date .
I prepared for my state exam to be a psychologist in Italy for months, also watching your videos on a regular basis. I took inspiration from your style too. I passed it and these are the due acknowledgments. Thank you!
Sounds like they didn't even touch the Personality Disorders sections (Section 2 or 3) with a 10 foot pole. I think the ICD-11 finally went through with the dimensional model changes.
I have to say I really have a strong distain for "youtubers" that said you are amazing! Greatly appreciated the breakdown in this video and for someone like me in my doctoral program with zero time this video is awesome!
Thank you so much for the kind words and support! It really means a lot to hear that the work I do is making a positive impact. I'll keep doing my best to provide helpful and meaningful content. Sending you lots of appreciation and warmth-take care!
Doctor Snipes! I love your work, it's very helpful. Thanks a lot! QUESTION: Would you be able to share the article you've found or the journal name with the study on postpartum D. in man?
I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling student, I am graduating from my CACREP program in the spring of 2023 and studying for the CPCE and NCMHCE as I am in VA. So I'm stressing out because now I feel like I have to get a whole new DSM-5-TR because my program used just the regular DSM-5 during the diagnostic section of my program. Not only has the NCMHCE been updated so I have to study for a different exam than everyone before me but now I have to stress about new information in the DSM-5-TR that may be on the exam? I guess I need to purchase this new revision and study this whole book over again?
That is a lot on you at once. I have a CEU course at AllCEUs that covers the changes to the major diagnosis areas. The videos are here and free though. I spent many, many, many hours making them. :)
Wow 😮 « Exposure through electronic media that is work related is considered traumatizing » lol that should also be considered an act of hate and/or war in addition to the invasion of privacy.
Is there anyway you can share your slides? I understand if not possible, just curious. I'm going to be teaching the DSM this fall and I love the way you worded the changes.
I don't give out my powerpoints. You are welcome to draw from my material in making your class. I would greatly appreciate if you provide a link to my RUclips channel ( ruclips.net/user/DocSnipes ) or maybe even the AllCEUs class that provides CEUs on this topic. According to Dr. Stewart, an African-American representative on the DSM 5-TR Ethnoracial Equity & Inclusion Work Group, to promote the use of gender inclusive terminology they endorsed to use 'latinx' instead of latino and latina. You can refer to APA's RUclips channel.

That is a question I will leave for others to speculate on. 😉
Ma'am! Please kindly explain the difference between OCD in DSM-5 and DSM-5 TR.
Differences between OCD in DSM-5 and DSM-5 TR:

* Comorbidity and Differential Diagnosis: The DSM-5-TR may provide more detailed guidance on comorbidity and differential diagnosis, helping clinicians distinguish OCD from other disorders with overlapping symptoms, such as autism spectrum disorder, PTSD, and illness anxiety disorder.
* Specifiers and Subtypes: The DSM-5-TR may introduce or clarify specifiers and subtypes for OCD, which can help in tailoring treatment to the individual's specific symptoms and needs.
