Hello, very nice video - good job. had problems with my similar wood splitter ventile. then I saw your video and at 5:32 min you used 2 washes under the level mechnism. I did this as well and my splitter from 2012 works perfect now. You saved my spliter and my money. many thanks Greetings from Germany ---> sorry for my bad English ;-)
I've split 5 cords through it so far. Does what I need it to. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUyQswtttSffRMblGbrhCvZn7JkhtG1-7 I scrounge all my firewood and am not equipped to handle big wood, but for logs up to 24 inch diameter or so, it works great. I've been amazed by some of the gnarly bur oak and elm crotches it has split. For the tougher stuff within it's size range, you might have to study the piece a bit to decide the best attack, but if you split smart it's up to the job. It did arrive low on oil, and I was would have nicked it half a star for that, but it has regained my full confidence. UPDATE NOVEMBER 2021: Still going strong after all these years. I love the one-handed operation. Hope it's still in production if I ever need to replace it
I’ve just done the same job on mine. The seal at the end of the aluminium gland was destroyed and so could not build up sufficient pressure to split logs. I couldn’t find the correct two-part seal (o ring at the bottom and a hard “guide” seal on top), so I just shoved a fat o-ring instead and it works perfectly. I believe it was a 327 o-ring size. Have split a few logs so far hopefully it holds up.
To everyone who asks about replacement parts: all seals and o-rings the original author bought at an auto market (he is in Ukraine). He went with all broken parts and just picked ones that fit the measurements.
Nice! I was ready to throw my old log splitter as it leaks oil and i am no mechanic. But here you come to save the day :) More or less exactly the same engine so here we go!
I have this same splitter, i know there has been no reply's to this vid and comments, in the show more he has the original vid where he commentates and explains what he is doing, i changed the subtitle to English and got all my answers, hope you do too
Great video, except you omitted the hardest part, I believe. Compressing the spring, in order to screw on the new piston disk, is very difficult unless your spring has become weak. Your spring looks strong. Like I said, great video!!
Did you find a solution? We have the same problem and are working on a tool with thread rod and steel plates to compress the spring while reassembling.
@@franklinohrtman282 Just done this repair. I used a tie down strap with a cam buckle. Fed one end of the tie down strap between the spring and piston for most of its length, connected both ends together and pulled hard. 3 or 4 hard tugs on the tie down were enough to compress the spring more each time (the cam buckle locks under tension) and it let me chock the end of the piston with a block of wood. Once done remove the tie down strap and install the piston sleeve over the spring.
i just done it too. I didnt use any extra tools, it waś possible to compress the spring with the screws. I tightened the backplate screws and it all pulled itself together. One hint for the "family diy" guy: you need to open the little bleed screw at the front plate while using the machine. close it for transport :)
Great video but the most important part how to compress the spring is not shown, I have my splitter all in bits and cleaned up but I cannot figure out how to compress the spring anyone knows a different video that covers that part?
Thanks for the video. What is your advice for a splitter that goes forward ok but does not return very well. I noticed yours did that and then you showed two arrows and then somehow it was fixed!
Hello! Thanks for the video very super. I need to replace a cylinder stem, but what I missed in the video is that of the spring and how you squeeze it back so it can be screwed back. Thanks in advance for the answer.
great vid! If i took mine apart like that id never remember how it goes back together😄iis not working very well its just like this one might have to give it a try
Thanks for the tear down. Just what I needed to decide I'll just put cardboard under it to catch the minor leak and just refill it from to time. :) Seriously, good vid but unsure I can find those seals tbh.
Great video, just one question did you do anything on the pressure relief valve? I am struggling to find any info on the basic settings (I think the last owner had played with it as the cap was missing)
Great video, I will give it a go but I am not sure how I will compress the spring ? also could you please let me know how much hydrolic oil is required for this type of log splitter. Many thanks
No video that I have seen shows the compression of the spring for reassembly. My splitter is still lying unassembled. However they usually take 3.5 litres of oil, maybe slightly more.
Thanks for the video! I need to work on the motor. Is there anything mechanical that secures the motor shaft to the pump gear or does the motor simply slide out? Thanks!
Dec 13 2023. Great video . I have the same splitter . Ram won’t operate . Blower fan turns fine . I took it apart , gears seem fine on motor and ram end . Oil was very black and dirty . Is there a filter that can be changed.
Doesn't anyone have issues with the welds on the RAM breaking? Can't seem to find any info on it. It looks like I'd have to take the whole backend of it apart on my WEN 6 ton machine
It is good to see one of these actually splitting thicker logs. I bought mine secondhand and it will only split thin logs. I didn't know if it was faulty or just a weak design of splitter.
I've watched all the videos on these log splitters and I have never seen a single one that shows the reassembly. One minute the parts are lying there and the next minute they are all reassembled, as if by magic.
does anyone know how to set the return pressure valve? Like maximum pressure? the part with the little ball an spring. i suppose you count the rotations of the screw?
Try welding a bead along the top front edge of the pusher. Grind it into teeth 🦷. This will stop the wood sliding up or off to the side of the pusher. I did it on mine and it works greatly by biting into the wood end and holding it.
I repaired my King 5 ton due to oil leaks. Perfect I thought....but after a week or so I noticed occasionally it would not start. It acted as if the start capacitor was open. The motor would sit and hum. The 47uF capacitor is not the problem. Sticking pump gears is not the problem. Its almost like when the rotor stops at a certain point it will just sit there and buzz. If I take a small screwdriver and turn it just a nub, its then ok until the next time. This is a single phase with no brushes and no centrifugal switch so it kinda has me boggled. Anyone have a hint?
@@JamesW76 actually with the motor taking out and sitting on the bench it will do the same occasionally. Something wrong with the motor. I swapped it out and All is ok. Thanks James.
Thanks for the video ! I have the same machine and sometimes the engine will not start, but when I turn the fan it starts again. The collector is probably dirty. Can I reach the collector from the fan side? Thanks in advance!
That the reason blew the seals out! By not opening up the bleeder value! That the 1st thing you do is open it up, 3 or 4 turns. When your finish close it off >> it up there on front with a WINGNUT
Notice you used paste type sealant (Black) on End Frames as opposed to Rubber-Ring seals (gaskets). What type of sealant was it? Also appeared to be no O Ring seal between Pump and End Frame extension when you dismantled but you did use one on assembly. When I dismantled my 5 ton King the O Ring was missing also. Curious if I should use one. The mating metal surfaces did not leak before. Eventually decided not use the O Ring and joint did not leak.
I have used black RTV sealant on my last two rebuilds, and it didn't leak. Since there is just atmospheric pressure inside reservoir, the seal only needs to resist seepage.
My electric log splitter stopped working, when I plug it in and press the start button nothing happens, (motor not making any noise) any idea what the issue could be ?
