The song itself already offered tons of meaning and symbolism in the lyrics that can be up for personal interpretation (it can be about your friends, i.e., platonic love, an ex, etc.), but the mv offered even more. My interpretation: In East Asian culture, and specifically in Chinese mythology-which our Queen Sarah loves to play with in her lyrics (with tracks like Lovegod etc)-there is something called the red string of fate that links two soulmates together. Thus these women are soul mates and spend a great deal of time together as portrayed by the braiding of their hair. But over time, there seems to be a push-pull dynamic that is formed with high-highs and low-lows. What was idealized and thought of as fate was actually an abusive relationship. The Other Woman is exciting but equally vindictive and controlling. Sarah’s character, on the other hand, has a more stable, grounded but watchful visage. She is also the weaker of the two. Sarah’s character’s haphazardly woven ropes seem to symbolize a powerlessness to the Other Woman that seems to have the control in the relationship. Sarah always following behind and at the whims of the Other Woman. What began as a fun, exciting pull of the rope becomes one of aggression and control. It ends with Sarah severing her connection to her soulmate and, thus, rejecting fate as well. The handle of the blade is bejeweled with things she has collected on her own that symbolize her power. There is an interesting moment at the end where, perhaps Sarah’s character regrets her decision as evidenced by her flashback when they were tied together and then is chasing the Other Woman through the portal. Interestingly, the portal in structure also resembles the rings on the rope in the beginning. To me, there are several interpretations here. These silver “rings” could be rings in the literal sense-a symbol of eternal love. Fate extends a (literal) hand once more toward no one in particular and both chase the feeling of that. The Other Woman succeeds in walking through the portal and Sarah is shut out. This could be interpreted a few different ways: first, the Other Woman is once more enslaved to fate while Sarah is free (the more inspiring of the messages) or the Other Woman has another soulmate and Sarah’s only soulmate is lost to her. She turns her back on fate and eternal love in the end.

I usually don’t comment on RUclips but I found out I was pregnant yesterday n told the father who rejected me n has ignored me since the relationship has been toxic and he’s been abusive to me physically mentally emotionally and sexually I notice the pain I’m feeling currently is mostly from the realization that I have to accept the current reality and his actions and not let the rejection interfere or lower my sense of self worth . This video I found after scrolling on multiple platforms trying to forget how I feel n this is what I needed at the perfect moment my interpretation: he’s the girl in the black dress n I’m in the red rope I have a choice now to cut the tie n break the generational cycle that has been in my family art is so necessary n I’m so great full to be here n able to experience this flower in the garden of creation .
