i’m trying to break down every detail of this magnificent music video and there’s just much, im completely in awe!! i love how she tied her past songs to this video! the moment at 3:30 where her past self & current self were playing cards on the floor, and her past self assumed The King is the strongest card in the deck. The King is Sarah’s biggest song, I mean it went viral on tiktok and is still used in every other video! In hills of fire, her lyrics repeat “i can’t stay the king forever”… I think her current self is recognizing the transformation she went through, realizing that she doesn’t just have to stop there. she’s not just “the king”, she’s expanding out into so much more… ALSOOO i just rewatched all of her other videos, and I noticed in the beginning of this her past self is wearing the same dress & coat from the Hills of Fire music video!! anyone else have any thoughts on this?
I had the same exact thoughts! You can tie Hills of Fire and King into this because Cypress precisely shows Sarah’s feelings towards her career. Hills of fire is about how she needed to run away from the publicity she gained from King as it overtook her life and was overwhelming. Cypress is a direct link to both of these which is why she’s talking to herself about “Was it everything we wanted and more? Everything we left the garden for.” The garden is most likely a reference to her past life because she gained popularity as the garden of Eden was seen as perfect yet predictable
How is nobody else pointing out the allusions to call me by your name?? The piano in the intro, resting each other’s heads on their shoulders, and crying by the candles (swapped in for the fireplace) at the end!! It’s all there.
Hmmm i feel like this is representing Sarah's growth as a person/artist, with the tune of The King kinda replaying bits , an ode to past Sarah and acknowledging how far she's come, I can write a whole essay on this loll love u sarah! :)
my brain cannot decipher this, because i have worms for brains. But sarah i love you, thank you lux and the rest of the team. This was absolutely beautiful!!
I just discovered Sarah Kinsley 40 minutes ago through 'The King' mv and... wow... I have been missing out for so long! She is everything I could've ever wanted both artistically and musically. The direction and creativity behind her music videos is so so so incredible, I wish I'd known her before now but it is truly an amazing experience getting to immerse myself into the universe she's created through her music. Beautiful.
YESSS I DISCOVERED HER LAST NIGHT. The song “love-god” very ethereal, I listened to her Spotify this morning and found a real gem 💎. she’s like and Aurora-lorde-mitski mix. truly stunning 🤩
Just learned about this singer... and her voice is insane. I can't stop listening!! I've checked out her other releases and this one is the best, by far, vocally. I'm obsessed!
I love the detail of the piano intro from The King at 3:40! This video is so detailed I need more time to break it all down but it’s a masterpiece 😭 I love you Sarah and everything you create!! ❤️
Sarah is amazing, I discovered her from the King, and I fell in love with every song she's done throughout her career. Each song is amazing in its own way, I am so thankful for her voice and how she can describe different situations with a piano and her voice. I really dream to be an artist like you. I love you Sarah💌
There is so much amazing art going on in one video! I need a lifetime to break it down, and appreciate every little detail. Great job Sarah as always! ❤
The ending reminds me of Call me by your name, truly a beautiful video. It felt like a short film and the music enhanced it, or maybe it's the other way around. Either way, I love it!
absolutely amazing work! i love this song and artist so much. i would just like to say- this is me just now realizing two years later what this song is actually about🤣 4:11 i’ve been googling and deep diving about “Who is Cypress???” for too long😭 that she’s talking to her younger self (the king/ the song ) and her younger self shouldn’t even know about cypress (the ep/ the song) yet. i absolutely adore sarah’s music because it makes you think (for me- i thought for LITERAL YEARS). there’s obviously more layers than that in this song, BUT I FOUND OUT WHO CYPRESS WAS🤣🤩
i finally found peace… everything has changed since i found ur message in creativity i love love ur intro mixed with classical and indie and pop thats all my favorite genres and u made it a thing soooo beautiful
Sarah this is amazing the video is perfection! The younger self talking to her present self OMG she’s so underrated the way my body feels at certain heights of the song!!!!
its completely stunning sarah the album is magnificent everything is perfect you did amazing i love it and i love you thank you so much for this masterpiece so excited to continue to watch you grow to an even more amazing artist in the future❤️
“Is it everything and more? Everything you and I left the garden for?” This just feels like a homage to Hills of Fire, the garden being the normal and predictable life that Sarah had before her career really boomed after “The King”, yet that was just the beginning, it’s not the strongest card because Sarah is still going to go further, although it might be an unpredictable future. I think that’s why Sarah throws the music into the candles, almost hiding her success from her past selves, indicating that success takes hard work and to treasure the life they are living now before gaining publicity, that’s why they just have to wait and see. Also “What was mine” was such a great song but I never quite looked into it but I feel like the discussion on the picnic blanket relates to that, the heartbreak. I just can’t wait to see how her career progresses, and the music that comes with it. 🫶🏻 keep up the amazing work
LASTLY, I mean I might be misinterpreting about it being her childhood and her “coming of age” being left behind in this song. It’s just crazy that finding yourself moving into a career and succeeding and having life go so fast that Sarah has almost accepted that she’s going way past her inner child now. But her inner child is still hurting, hence the tears at the end. The future is so uncertain for her and she’s in dismay of where it’s going.
one of the coolest music videos i've ever seen. i want more of this story. i would watch it as a full length film. (Sarah, maybe make a full length musical?)
Sarah Kinsley is my unique hidden gem in this industry
same girl i discovered lovegod by her in dec 2023 and now I'm going to her show this September so fucking stoked for it

best video of the year for the title track from the best ep of the year. the sarah kinslay summer has officially begun.
So ready for my Sarah Kinsley summer
We have entered the "Cypress era" !!
I haven't been so compelled by a music video in so long WOE
This is the type of music I want to wake up to every day 🌄

THE ACTING AND PRODUCTION IN THIS IS INSANEEEE
Her past asks her “what about cypress” and right after she sings “prophecy might be following me”. Insane😍 4:48 4:50
Another diamond. Thank you Sarah for the endless joy.
The song is already so beautiful on its own, but this video really adds so much more. I love it!! :)
There is so much amazing art going on in one video! I need a lifetime to break it down, and appreciate every little detail. Great job Sarah as always! ❤
TEARS IN MY EYES AND SO MANY CHILLS

this is going to be so beautiful AAAAAA!!!!!! i am beyond excited
The percussion track is very similar to Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush
It’s about being in a parallel universe and the two versions of her one is from the afterlife the other is from reality.
My new favorite song 💕
this song is just so good and criminally underrated.
Best 8 minutes of my life tbh
Sarah Kinsley is a huge inspiration to me and I WILL produce a song for her one day.
This is my favorite so farr!! Music video and song wise. This story line is soo crazy. And the king being a returning themee wowwwe
I super resonate w/the actresses quiet expressions at the end. She’s fantastic whoever she is.

sarah's lyricism gives me life omg😭
Why is this so good. Gives me 90s pop. And of course I hear the 80s elements but the vocal and song give me big 90s pop rock.
