Thanks so much for clearing this up for me wish I understood all this before I purchased my last Bible that was over 200 dollars. That I can't read for very long. I also wish all bible reviewers would start out with the font size right off the bat it would save me a lot of time. Thanks again.
Very frustrating. Thanks for addressing this. As a former librarian, I know that large print is 14 pt or over, and giant is 16-18 and up. I have a "giant print" that is actually 14 point (barely large print), and a "large print" that is 9 point advertised as 10.5. Makes a girl want to scream. It's too bad that so many of the local Bible stores have gone out of business and we have to buy them without seeing them. I wish they would standardize these things. Thanks for doing this video!
Very interesting, I never knew that to this. This explain why some people give bad reviews for translations that state they are large font but then people find the print too small.
Another consideration is whether the text is bold print or not. I can deal with a 9 to 10 pt font, but if it is a skinny font (and not bold e.g. TBS Westminster) then I struggle. But a 9 pt font that is bold (Cambridge Concord) I'm good. Give me a Longprimer or Turquoise any day. 11 pt font and bold.
Thank you, Tim for explaining how the term "large print" varies depending on the type of bible the reader is purchasing. It's sort of odd that the term is so relative.
Your videos and perspective are always informative and well stated. Thank you. I am in my early 60s, and I need a large print in order to read. I now have any study Bibles on my Olive Tree app so that I can read the notes. Though I have a few large prints in various versions, my main physical Bible is a large print Open Bible (NKJV) from around 1990. In the regular size margins, I can write a three letter ‘key’ for a note that is very helpful. For Instance, ‘CSB’ for the CSB Study Bible, ‘ESV’ for the ESV Study Bible, ‘Mac’ for the MacArthurStudy Bible, etc.
The publishers need to get together and set some standards. I've been legally blind all my life and I cannot count the times I have been fooled by the words large print. If the pizza industry can agree on what a large pizza is I think the Bible publishing world needs to get together and do something similar
Hi, I recently bought a very Bible at a Walmart that is 16 point type and very easy to read and about the size of normal carry Bible. It sold for about $19.00 even though the box said $29.99. It is very well made, made by Holman. I hope this helps.
I have an old Cambridge pocket Bible from the early 60's. It states that the print is Amethyst 32mo. The 32mo would indicate smaller size paper but I cannot find anything to tell me what size Amethyst is. It appears to be maybe a 5.5 I have compared it with a 1964 Handy size Thompson I have in 6 point and my 90's Pitt Minion in 6.5 and to me, at least, it is pretty close or perhaps a bit smaller. I'm wondering if Amethyst is just another name for Ruby/Agate font. That is 5.5
I get so frustrated...and sometimes angry when 9, 10, and 10.5 point types are sold as being Large Print. I once ordered two Bibles..each labeled as being Large Print editions...only to find them barely readable 10 and 10.5 fonts. You can bet your last dollar that text size is now the very first feature I checkout...no matter what the box says. I recently learned...from Beau... of a CrisswayvPersona;,Size Bible that has a 12point font. I ordered it...and like it a lot...even though the NKJV is my preferred translation. It has been my experience that it is difficult to find a 12 pt.,font Bible...and when you do, they are never a Premium quality Bible. You often have to sacrifice quality for readability. Beware new Bible readers... Large is almost never really Large anymore. Check out the specs, to make sure you are getting something that won’t frustrate you.
You're welcome. Thomas Nelson and Zondervan have Bibles in Comfort Print, which tends to be on the bolder side. I suggest looking for a Bible in Comfort Print with at least 11 or 12 size font.
I learned about "large print" in Bibles the same way I learned about viewing angles on monitors - the hard way. I blew $40 on a "large print" full size study bible and found out that their "large print" was a 9 point font. Now as I look around I always check to verify the font. I've found that trying to find the actual font size of an edition can be like pulling teeth. Bottom Line: The publishers are not very honest or forthcoming when they sell their products. Good Luck!
Perhaps you can help me. I am looking for an NASB bible with 36gsm paper, 11pt font or larger, minimal ghosting, line matching, and perhaps comfort print. Thanks for any suggestions
Check out the Zondervan Single Column Reference NASB in Comfort Print. The font is 10.5 with 36GSM paper. It is available in synthetic or premium leather cover. www.christianbook.com/nasb-comfort-single-column-reference-leather/9780310451167/pd/451162?event=ESRCG
I wish I could find the basically the new Zondervan Preaching Bible (10 font ) in 12-14 font... But in the large and giant print versions the paper is thin...
@@jerryfortenberry1956 I know it can be hard to find the exact right thing, especially because larger print does often mean thinner paper. You might also try to find a Schuyler NASB in 36GSM. The print on those is listed as 11, but they are very readable from my experience. It's expensive, but it should meet your needs well.
actually ive been shoppig for Bibles online large print, and they say its 8 point font. Ive only seen 1 that says 9 point font. Ive never seen a 10 point font
The Cambridge Concord indicates a font size of 8/9pt. I don’t know why they list it like that. It has to be one of the other. The Cambridge Cameo has a font size of 8pt. However this Bible is a smaller size. I am not sure how both bibles can have the same size font. Do you know anything about these two bibles or maybe why this is?
I bought two Nelson NKJV Bibles..one LargecPrint, and onecGisnt Print. The Large print was larger than the Giant Print. Neither wax whst I would call Large, or Giant Print. Things have changed. Large/Giant are not whst Thry used to be.
Always check in the book details as to what the exact font is. They might say giant and still not be as big. Look for a font size of 12-17. Super giant is usually 17
Great video. Difficult to find a 'proper' KJV Bible, 'proper' size print(10), 'proper' dimensions: 24H x 16L cm, synthetic leather cover. -- no thumb index, no reference, no study, no open book, no commentary, no pocket size, no 'revised' touches -- simply a bare bones, pure, standard Bible.

My dream is a giant print Bible with journaling / wide margin space!! Why do they not make that? Thanks. Good video:)
So helpful, especially when trying to find a 1984 NIV in large print! Many thanks from the UK

You didn’t mention super giant Bible. 16-point font size. I was looking to see if you reviewed one.
Always informative, Brother Tim!
Thank you because I’m trying to buy one offline and this is really need it

Information on any BOLD PRINT BIBLES please?

Agreed
9 pontos é uma fonte pequena, a fonte normal seria entre 11 e 12 pontos.

Do you have any advice on where I can find a giant font USA made KJV bible? Seems I can have one or the other but not both. Thanks.
is an 11.5 font that much different for readability than a 12.2?
actually ive been shoppig for Bibles online large print, and they say its 8 point font. Ive only seen 1 that says 9 point font. Ive never seen a 10 point font

I want to order a Bible. The font is 19. Is it too big? 19 font is what size in the regular fonts. Please let me know. Thanks.
So helpful! Thanks!
Hi, what about compact large print bible with 9.5 pt?
Does the bible comes in extra extra large fonts like 20 fonts and up
The LSB IS 9.5 AND HARD TO READ FOR ME.
I need this video I need my books to be huge and I’m still trying to find a Bible for my self

Thanks for the great explanation!
Sure thing!
Giant Print, Super Giant Print, Comfort Print® - Are there specific font sizes for these descriptions?
Always check in the book details as to what the exact font is. They might say giant and still not be as big. Look for a font size of 12-17. Super giant is usually 17
