What is being referred to here as “autotune” is actually the sound being produced by the late, great Roger Troutman, the brother you see singing that hook through his TalkBox, with what looks like tubing hanging from his mouth. Roger was instrumental in the funk genre and its Dayton, OH blow up. The site of his former recording studios in Dayton, also the site of his murder, is now a beautiful memorial with a unique, musical sculpture.

It’s not auto tune. It’s called a “vocoder”. Made popular by Roger Troutman who sang the original California Love song by Zapp & Roger. You can even see Roger in the helicopter with a tube in his mouth. That’s the vocoder. The video is supposed to be California in the future. It’s also a reference to the movie Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome.

I found it interesting you guys didn't know Ice Cube and Dr. Dre were rappers, so I bet you also didn't know they got their start in the 80s in the same group (well, Dre had been doing some electronica type stuff for a few years before, but their big break was together) called NWA. That NWA family tree is HUGE now, so many artists owe their careers to NWA, particularly Dre, Cube, and Eazy-E. Dre was always more of a producer than rapper, but he did spit occasionally and knew how to deliver lyrics. He doesn't write much of his own stuff and has barely rapped at all in the last 20 years, so I'm not surprised you guys didn't really know him like that. Definitely find some early Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and NWA when you feel like learning some hip hop history.

"I didn't know that Dr. Dre could rap!" People, we have failed our children. Thank God the twins are doing these reaction videos to not only educate themselves, but also other young people who need to be exposed to these artists and their great music, AND at the same time by providing great joy to older generations in reminiscing and giving us an opportunity to share knowledge. We have a duty to pass along the culture or it will be lost. TWINS: Stay curious. Keep asking questions. Keep exploring. Life is about learning. The more you learn, the more you know. And thanks once again for providing this public service. Big hug, and may God continue to bless you!

edit: Also, check "Still DRE" with Snoop and Dr. Dre.
And btw, Dre signed Eminem, and later they signed 50 cent. Dre made most if not all the beats for thew whole album "Get rich or die trying" by 50 cent. Including songs like: PIMP, If I can't. and more.

RIP PAC 🙏 . I love 2Pac and Dr Dre. This is a banger! I met Pac many years ago at a club in Chicago, he was so kind and sweet, nothing like the character he portrayed. I still have the autograph.

The whole video is a reference to "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome". It was a movie in the mid-1980s. Tina Turner is in it----she is totally awesome.

If the song is listed as Dr Dre it's possible they wouldn't know Pac was on it. Most folks dont know earlier works of rappers that didn't cross over to white charts. They may have only heard songs that list Pac only. Pac been dead 24 years they just turned 21, so I give them a pass on this.
