I’ve started to fit flexible tap connectors instead of the dreaded fibre washers. It’s easier than going backwards and forwards to turn the stop tap off when there is a leak. 74 year old plumber here. Like to watch your videos coz I can relate to everything you do. 👍

Oh man you know you hate messing with plumbing and especially toilets. It's a great and satisfying feeling though when you solve a problem and put everything back together nice and tidy. It's a bit like cleaning your car boot out and the car seems to fly along after. But soil connections were always the most troublesome things for me. I once went to instal a new toilet and the soil pipe turned out to be lead. It had leaked for years until the last guy lined the lead pipe with a 2 litre cider bottle. My neighbour who worked in a plastics factory was able to fabricate me a plastic pipe the same size as the cider bottle, job done. Great vid mate.
@@truthseeker7794 could you not find the cider bottle to do the same? Fair play though that’s a great idea and it worked! I hate soil pipes too, they’re never simple haha! But I agree with tidying the boot out! It’s a rarity that happens though!😂😂😂
My ex wife as the hive on her Heat only boiler, last winter my oldest daughter went to see her with the grandkids, when I caught up with her she told me that her house was freezing and thought she was being tight by not having the heating on,I went to check it for her,she wasn't tight, she did not know how set the controls, not the easiest to program, but got her nice and warm now,😊
@ OMG! That’s a bummer! I’ve got Tado in my house, which also supports Opentherm; unfortunately my boiler (Worcester Greenstar system) doesn’t support Opentherm! Typical!
The ONE thing I hate about our job is the unexpected surprises we find when taking out toilets. Big estate I work in all have cast iron stacks that are internal with a cast iron horizontal stub out at 90 degrees to the vertical stack. Not only are they rusted to hell but also usually have been chopped off with an angle grinder. They are no longer round or at the correct height for the new toilet. Leaks on these are a huge problem and they can be a nightmare. I’ve even had to use those rubber drainage collars with the jubilee clips to connect plastic soil pipe to them to then connect the toilet to the plastic. All needs ripping out this cast iron crap! Good shout with your repair though!
I was just about to Ask how do you get around the ones which aren’t round anymore! I hate it too mate, you just never know what you’re going to uncover!
If I can get room for PTFE then I just use jointing compound. It also slows down the process of the washer turning into a.hard usless part (which is also what my Mrs says I have) 😂
@Heatking The company provides a highly reliable technical help desk and utilizes an industry-standard backplate similar to that of the Hive. Once you become an approved installer, you will have the opportunity to offer customers a 5-year warranty on your installations.
I changed my Drayton 722 to Wiser as it's just a question of changing the front and a minor change to the wiring so the boiler is always asking for heat. It works really well and I'm very happy but. I live in a small bungalow and with only a couple of walls in between the signal from router to the Wiser hub is only just adequate so it does need to be carefully sited. The hub connects to the thermostats using Zigbee which also doesn't have a great range so their range extenders might be necessary, I needed them. It's a 2.4Ghz product, I had issues initially because of this and I'm a nerd, once all sorted though it works well. Their tech support is very good and I've had good chats with them at the Screwfix exhibitions. You can also connect via Home Assistant so if the Schneider servers did go down or they ceased trading you can still control the system.
