Hi Cheryl, totally with you on not cutting into the $60 fabric until you are 100% sure of your pattern! I like this burda pattern a lot but I agree about the gathers vs the pleats and that front dart ! 🙄I bought a pattern with that type of dart once thinking it was so cute and interesting and...nope! didn't like it at all. Can't wait to see that finished shirt.

@@thebigsewalong That Burda pattern needs some things changed. I think I’ll try taking those darts off the next time and figure out that weird neck finish directions. I thought about doing a dress instead. Put pockets in the skirt! If that is successful, then I can share that experience😊
I’d like yo go fabric shopping for more lawn! My lawn top is really nice to wear.

I really like this top, but I understand why you have some reservations. After seeing the gathers in the back, I can see why you would have preferred them in the front as well. I also understand your frustrations with the front opening. I’m really bad about just doing things my own way when I don’t like Burda’s instructions. I always put my zippers in flat and can’t imagine the awkwardness of inserting a zipper after the front and back have been joined. Maybe my lackadaisical attitude toward their instructions is why I like Burda patterns more than others do. I hope this top ends up working out for you because it’s really pretty.
I am looking forward to your art shirt. It looks like you’ll have a lot of fun making it. I need to stretch my creativity with more things like that. I finished my Koko Beall dress, but my husband isn’t wild about the fullness in the front. He wanted me to tighten the back elastic to pull the fullness to the back!!! I do think I’ll reach for it, but the fabric probably has a little more body than would be ideal. I can see this being awesome in a rayon challis. I probably need to take a little bigger hollow chest adjustment next time, but otherwise it fits well. I decided to try the Love Notions Cadence dress next. I’ve made the top before so fitting should be minimal. I just want a few cool easy dresses for the next couple of months. I imagine you are anxious to get back to your machine so you can immerse yourself in your art shirt. Wishing you safe travels.

@@nadinewoods6971 Thank you for all your encouragement! I will probably wear my top but I doubt I reach for it very often. I think I’ll make it as a dress and do away with those odd darts. I can probably work out the awkward details of the neck finish if I just think it through. If a lengthen the bodice and do gentle gathers all around, add pockets in the skirt; then maybe I’ll like it😊
Im excited about my art shirt. I’ve given so much thought to it and I’m ready to get back to it. My embroidery project didn’t go well, too many interruptions; however, my scrappy summer tank is getting knitted😊 I do miss my machine though.
