Having a portal to the first ring on the planet would make for one hell of a reason to glass the place if you're the Covenant. I see the season ending with a huge battle on the planet and a few ships go through while the rest of the Covenant fleet wipes out the planet so no one can use the gate anymore. Final shot is Chief on the ring and we wait for season 2. If true, all of season 2 should cover the events of Halo CE, with a few tweaks for the silver timeline.
@@Nugnugnug Allocating budget to important scenes isn't nickle & diming, it's normal television planning when action & VFX are involved. If you want to find in-depth discussions of this, look for Expanse commentary/BTS videos with Breck Eisner. He did quite a few of that show's "we're spending 1/3 of our budget on just this episode" shoots.
If they did cover CE, Chief must have his helmet on and when its off they are not allowed to show his face. Kwan and makee have to be gone or killed and not appear on the ring. Miranda cannot have an appearance. Jacob keyes needs to stop dressing like Johnson and start dressing and acting like Jacob keyes. Halsey cannot make an appearance. There will be no portal on madrigal and the piller of autumn is how they reach the ring. The UNSC needs to stop being depicted as Nazis. Chief needs to act like chief and not an emotional flower.
If they're following lore, which they have been so far, minus Makee, The portal isn't to Halo (there are no portals to or from Halos) It could possibly be to the Ark but I doubt they'll go with that. I think the only thing that will come from that portal is Chief having a talk with it's Monitor and finding out the location of the Halo from his vision.
Burn Gorman is an amazing actor. Loved him in The Expanse, GoT, Man in the High Castle, and Turn. Vinsher and Soren were the most interesting characters in the "Madrigal" distraction from the real plot.
@@patrickhenry1249 He is amazing. Check him out in Turn. He plays Major Hewlett, one of the only truly honest and honorable characters in the show. Huge departure from his normal bad guy roles.
I was wondering why there were no human bodies at the base ruins, but it occurs to me that relatives and associates of the rebels or simply neighboring good samaritans probably came to the base and gathered the human dead for funerary rites and left the alien dead out of disrespect and because they had no idea what to do with a pile of alien corpses. As for the episode itself, I'm happy to see Kwan undergoing some character development. She'd been an angry fool up until now, which I understand why but didn't like as a person. But now that she's found a way to honor her father's legacy, I'm glad she's evening out. Soren still remains a great character. Still, one element that I feel the show has been missing is the desperation that defined the late Human-Covenant war. With how brutal the show has been on the small scale, I have to wonder if and when that will escalate to the larger scale. Will we see one or more of the three human worlds we've visited get destroyed by the end of this or next season? I hope so. Madrigal, Reach and the Rubble all have endearing people and cultures, which will make it hurt more when it all turns to glass. I hope the show is taking the long approach and building up to events like that rather than neglecting to showcase them at all.
Agatha did say in a previous episode that Vinsher allowed them to return to the outpost ruins to collect their dead. And yeah, great to see Kwan getting some much-needed development, both in her character and her story. She looked good at the end with Chief's discarded assault rifle.
so they dealt with the bodies but left the super high tech weapons. Also no character development was even made. Nothing in this episode is even recognizable as halo.
@@jackgrove4621 lying about the show is pretty standard for toxic fanboys. Go cry into your mother's bosom about how this show isn't Band of Brothers ODST and let the sane people consume in peace.

Why on earth would you even go near one of those weapons when you have no clue what it does? You must have missed Kwans entire vision because that was both character development and bringing her story into halo lore.
It was hinted in Twitter that this episode took inspiration from Greg Bear novels so I thought Kwan relates to the forerunners. I knew her arc would have some interesting aspects. However, i think the direction of the episode could have been better, 'not using goggles or visor when going into a sandstorm'. Also its so funny to watch how pissed Anrgy Joe is after this episode when he knows very little about halo 🤣
@@pbf7719 She's talking about Madrigal having a portal and a Forerunner AI (a Monitor in this case) which eludes to it being a shield world. The AI of shield worlds assign humans to protect and operate their portals. Taken straight from cannon lore..
@@jackgrove4621 Have you read the books? I don't think you have. Also 343 and Microsoft both gave their approval for this so they must think it's Halo.
They really could've pulled everything from the lore with such a high budget and it would've been top tier. No wonder they were in production hell for so long.
@@jeremycovelli no, there is no space magic in halo. There are no mystics in halo. There are no space drugs that guide you to your destiny in halo, and there is not fire that turns into water in halo. Barley anything in this show is lore friendly.
This one might be a stretch but at one point, Kwan Ha mentioned "Never Surrender" which, you know, it was a song in the Halo 2 Album and then an Easter Egg in Halo Reach. Again, might just be a stretch lmao.
Is nobody going to give a shout out to Dayna Mellanby from "Blake's 7"? Great to see (and hear- it was her voice I recognised first) Josette Simon as Desiderata.
Im now interested to see what secrets hide madrigal and how ti will eventually tie back to the main story, the "you will see him again" his first descendant say to her about John sets up a perfect moment for Kwan giving John back his rifle. On a side note, i was thinking that it be interesthing to see an adaptation of Kwan story in the main canon, maybe as a book covering something with a lower scope as the series i hinting at, replacing maybe John with Randall 037 but keeping Soren, Vinsher, the witches of the sand but instead of a portal maybe something in smaller scope like just some artifact.
@@jackgrove4621 who decides that? Any writter of core canon could just grab her and adapt her one day or any new bit of lore created for the series tho
I vote for Madrigal being a shield world. I don't feel like the deuterium supply on this planet is natural either, most likely something from the Forerunners. I also have trouble believing that the portal goes to the first halo ring. They have focussed so much on the artifacts, and the artifacts are how Cortona got the "random" jump coordinates for the beginning of Halo: CE.... to me, they are setting up for a longer arc with a payoff further down the road.... probably to an ark? Or maybe the portal is the way into the shield world? Also, the mystics had necklaces and other items that looked like mazes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure ancient humans on earth in the first Forerunner Saga book Cryptum were good at building mazes.... and they also had a maze-like or spiral-like path marked with rocks to safely approach the Didact's cryptum.
In canon, none of the Halos have portals but some of the shield worlds have portals to the Ark, which I doubt they will introduce anytime soon. This portal could be the entrance to the actual vault or shield part of the planet. I have a feeling Cheif will pay that Monitor a visit and have a little chat..
“You seem to be unhappy or disgruntled I guess” Like Game Of Thrones The Hobbit and other epic stories Enabling the production to make a seemingly entertaining story line based on characters from the Halo games and stories must have been a very difficult task indeed “unless you only want to endless battle scenes that never end for 10 episodes” we’ll go play the game ;) They are trying to piece together a storyline based on the above 👆🏻 It’s a series right ? With characters based on the games and books etc. My opinion only btw ….. The scenes are insane The characters are Awsome even though not perfect …. The ships and tech I mean bloody wow this is really well done ! Only my opinion This must have cost millions to make so either stop complaining or don’t watch it hey ?! @@captainbuzzkill4658 oh course he can......he takes it off in the books sometimes but not very often. I wouldn't mind if they had chief only take his helmet off in maybe 2 episodes but for the majority of it he had it on
I was hoping for more nuance to vinsher's motivations. As far as I can tell, he wanted power for powers sake when I think it could have been out of fear of the covenant. Desperately trying to reconcile with the UNSC to protect the people but would take extreme lengths to do so like executing freedom fighters or anyone who he would see as a detriment to the planet's survival.
@@KillerOrca Im glad i am basically right, I just wish they made Vinscher's connection to ONI more clear in the show, as the UNSC being control-freaks with their outer-colonies, but also handing control of an entire planet to seemingly random thugs really confused me.
Hey have they specifically stated that they'd go into the Fall of Reach. This is a major event in the Halo timeline, I don't think a lot of us realize that the invasion is like a month or two away in the halo timeline. Im afraid they might just write it off as not happening or are just going to skip over it and reference it later... Everything that makes Halo what it is revolves around the experiences we had playing through these major events. If they don't plan on showcasing an episode or two to the fall of Reach I don't know what to expect anymore because they are creating something almost entirely different and basically just reusing assets created by other people... This concerns me because we've yet to see any other Spartans other than Silver team, no indications of the Covenant invading Reach, no actual clear direction on where were heading with this story (considering Halo basically has a beginning and end spelled out already) this is all so confusing and unorganized.. The Mystics staring off looking accomplished as the fuel line explodes making it seem like "Madrigal is now safe" because the "bad UNSC politician" is dead. Like it meant some giant importance or accomplishment to everybody when all it meant was Qwan got a bit of closure whilst damning her planet to possibly being abandoned by the UNSC and left to fight for themselves against the Covenant whom are more then likely about to glass her planet to access whatever this Monitor is guarding...
They have not stated it, but it makes sense. They clearly said its 2552, which is a big nod towards where this is going. They didn't say which month, but Reach and Halo CE all happen in about a 2 month period of Sept/Oct. They seem to be trying to get Halsey out of harms way before Reach gets glassed. They have the two artifact thing going on, even though the artifacts were found in different locations which is where Cortana found the coordinates to Installation 04. They also have Makee, on Reach... a major violation of the Cole protocol and likely how the covenant find Reach. I know there is a lot of hate by some towards the show, but if you connect the dots, they are moving quickly towards The Fall of Reach and Halo CE.
@@badbrothers8221 ugh...that just screams terrible writing.. just too simplistic and convenient. I seriously wanna believe the portal does not lead to Halo. But still makes me wonder how Chief gets to Halo. Will he escape Reach's destruction, will he go down the well, or will they just casually fly to Halo..
@@dguisinger yes I just hope we will see these events.. I can overlook Qwans story because it's still interesting to see the POV of UNSC vs Insurrectionists, even if it is over the top... It's like Qwans story is to establish lore while MC and Cortana are the eye candy going somewhat about the Halo timeline. But yeah if it were me writing it I'd say Makee signals the covenant or the covenant pick up a signal from the artifact and head to Reach. Next episode showcases Chief briefing everyone of Halo, some drama happeneds probably Chief protecting Makee while the UNSC suspect her of giving up Reach's location, and the episode ends with the covenant exiting slip space and invading reach. Season finale is the battle of Reach and they escape barely on the Autumn and ends the season/episode of them arriving at Halo, Qwans has no other appearance, her story is done till next season. We will see how this theory plays put
Thank you Halo Cannon! I really appreciate this video. I feel that the writers and directors of the show were pulling a Dave feloni. This episodes confirms my suspicions that Kwan is this series Ahsoka Tano. They created a young bratty insufferable know it all that gets knocked down a few pegs and shown her real potential and purpose. To me it beautifully shows her character development. Master chief and Kwan, Anakin and Ahsoka.

Always looking for your vid after a new episode. Was pleasantly surprised by not hating this story development. Hope something cool comes up for Kwan's link to (possibly) Forerunners and MC. Soren story though seems a bit typical to me, so I can predict going in a few directions already. know lots of world building needed for season 1 but I am hoping for more Spartans fight scenes.
I thought the random Female Psykers in the Desert was kinda jarring, and a massove departure from anything Halo. It fit Dune or Raised by Wolves way more. If they wanted to use characters with Magic, why not introduce established Neural-Pyshics using races, such as the Flood, the Precursors, or even the Endless?
This episode made me think of Dune a lot. It was a struggle to get to the good stuff for me though as Kwan hasn't been a favorite of mine due to her unapologetic nature inadvertently getting people killed left and right.
Thanks for the amazing TV show coverage man. And I appreciate you being honest and giving positive feedback when most of Halo community might prefer you give it more crap! Haha
I was also skeptical about this episode but ended up loving it. The Silver cannon is being fleshed out in in slow burn but it is still compelling for all that. I also really liked Chief being the guide in Kwan’s visions. Edit: fixed her name.
why? What use is she? the silver timeline is not being fleshed out. It just a whole lot of contradictions, agenda inserts, and discrepancies. Why does the savior of humanity need a bratty korean girl to "guide" him when that is literally what Cortana is for.
The guns of the Madrigal Security Forces are all real life Kriss Vectors that have been dressed up much like Sterling SMG's, MG42's, and AR15's have been dressed up for Star Wars The Kriss Vector is also the inspiration for the VK78 Commando in Infinite so there may be a connection there
Excellent review! The appearance of a monitor really excited me, too. Your additional insight on the Mystics and Forerunner connection gives me additional hope and confidence in the writers of the silver timeline. Wasn't really a fan of Kwan but you've convinced me to reevaluate my views, plus the inclusion of a gene song in her story helps sort out questions I've had up to now. As an aside, I haven't seen your review of Season two. I guess 343 is walking back some of the unwanted changes. Looking forward to your updated review.
I won't be making a "review" of season 2 like a lot of Halo RUclipsrs have. I will be talking about the lore of the season however! I'm working to finish some unlocks for the current event towards that end.
Some small thoughts of mine; - I hope to see the portal in its entirety, probably buried under the desert of Madrigal. I wonder if there are forerunner sentinels guarding the place. - Nice catch with the reclaimer symbol as well as the seven triangles representing the seven rings. - Squirrel might commit a coup against Soren, we shall see what happens in the season finale. - The vision quest, as you said, could be a geas reference. - Something tells me the portal on Madrigal either goes to a shield world OR Installation 04. Unless, Madrigal itself IS a shield world. - Vinsher's assassin is still out there, and with Soren gone Kwan may be in a bit of trouble. Vinsher may get his last laugh, who knows? - Yeah, noticed the space elevator destruction reference from Halo ODST. - Vinsher may be severely scarred and plotting his revenge against Kwan...I think.
In my humble opinion the monitor seen in the scene is likely a submonitor. Regarding the episode it self, the online thing I didn't like was Soron during the firefighte. He is still a Spartan and I guess y'all know want I wanna say.
I thought the episode was poorly written and boring. Much of what was interesting was rushed through and they concentrated on scenes that were dumb or didn't advance the story well. I'm looking forward to returning to the Master Chiefs' story arch as I really don't care much for Quan or madrigal at this point.

what is this a Halo channel doing a genuine breakdown and liking the tv series instead of just throwing shit at it for not being an exact copy of the canon events? this is realy a rare sight
I love how Sorren exaggerates how injured he is when Vinisher shoots him, slowly trying to crawl his way to the bunker. And then Kwan shoots the fuel and Sorren immediately is back to full Spartan capacity as he rushes himself and Kwan into the bunker.
Agreed, to an extent, though I wouldn't say he exaggerates anything. Even a hulking, enhanced ex-Spartan can't take a round to the neck and live without applying immediate (which he does) and constant (which he fails to do) pressure to the wound. Scott from Kentucky Ballistics (here on youtube) sustained a comparable wound when his 50 cal exploded, and only survived by shoving his thumb into his neck and keeping it there while his father got him to the er. Soren's realistically mortal wound and instantaneous recovery is total BS.
@@FaddaJoe You make an excellent point. He isnt even a fully-fledged Spartan, he is a failed Spartan, so even if Master Chief could survive an injury like that, Soren comparatively should not be able to.

I love your analysis of Kwan's vision, and how it was supposed to represent how she has had all this built up rage for so long, and she reacts to every situation with rage as her first impulse. She keeps trying to kill Chief because all she knows is to be angry and fight. The minute she lets her guard down and takes Chiefs hand is the minute she exits the battle and her family's purpose is revealed. It was to serve as symbolism of her going from an angry, ignorant child to taking up the family's mantle and putting her rage aside . Great work, very insightful!
After seeing the previews for episode 7 , i admittedly wrote it off. I was genuinely surprised on how much I enjoyed it. Kwan and the Mystics reminded me of when Chakas stumbled across the life worker and the other AIs on installation 07. I don’t think that Kwan entered the Domain, however I do think that the mystic unlocked her gaes and that’s why she had those conscious memories and was able to communicate with her father. Also there were a few Halo Wars references. The portal that the monitor was shown to be going back into during Kwans acid trip, looked very similar to the sentinel factories in Halo Wars 1. One of the sentinels that you can create was a “protector” sentinel. Lastly when Jin stated that the portal would not activate until it is safe, reminded me of the final mission in HW1 when the portal gates would not deactivate until the area is clear of the flood. Awesome episode and awesome review!
I have a theory that the title "Protector" will be a part of several set titles for humans related to the Reclamation. And Reclaimer will likely be the penultimate title bestowed upon a human.
The only time frame we got was in the first episode when the Condor took several hours to go from Madrigal to Reach, timing for everything else hasn't been made clear. In this episode we were meant think Kwan was driving around the desert for days between the last episode and this one, enough time for Soren to leave.. have a party, and come back. But in the show it looked like it was the same day for Kwan.

So true. If they're this deep in the show and still going, are they just watching just to hate on it?

Your content has provided so much information to me where i would have never known about most of the facts. And honestly I always wait for your videos to understand Halo better. I hope you grow a lot and keep providing us with this amazing content. Thank you ! 🙌🏼
@sly dankass who knows, maybe they've been nickle and diming the effects budget for a blowout finale. I really can't say, but I can hope.
NGL I’d be down I see elements from “The Flood” in Silver CE
@@patrickhenry1249 Here's a good compilation of him in Turn:

@@patrickhenry1249 That's true, he always gets cast to play characters that give off a creepy mad scientist vibe.
@@jackgrove4621 Ok Jack.. 20 aliens you know nothing about kill 150 people in 10 mins with advanced plasma weapons. Why on earth would you even go near one of those weapons when you have no clue what it does? It was hinted in Twitter that this episode took inspiration from Greg Bear novels so I thought Kwan relates to the forerunners. I knew her arc would have some interesting aspects. However, i think the direction of the episode could have been better, 'not using goggles or visor when going into a sandstorm'. Also its so funny to watch how pissed Anrgy Joe is after this episode when he knows very little about halo 🤣
Neither do the people writing this failure of a show. Nothing in this episode is like the books. It is not halo anymore.
The Forerunner trilogy is superb, just like most of the lore. This show however, is not.
Nothing in this episode screams Halo. What are you even talking about?
@@pbf7719 She's talking about Madrigal having a portal and a Forerunner AI (a Monitor in this case) which eludes to it being a shield world. The AI of shield worlds assign humans to protect and operate their portals. Taken straight from cannon lore..
@@jackgrove4621 Have you read the books? I don't think you have. Also 343 and Microsoft both gave their approval for this so they must think it's Halo.
They really could've pulled everything from the lore with such a high budget and it would've been top tier. No wonder they were in production hell for so long.
90% of what we're seeing is from lore lol pretty much the only thing that's not is Makee
@@jeremycovelli I mean straight from the lore, not an alternate timeline.

Would make sense considering they're riding in a car made by the same company that makes the VK-78.

Vinsher’s goon’s weapons are modeled off the KRISS Vector.
I’m gunna be honest, HaloCanon doing it 10x better than Halo the Series: Declassified.
I appreciate the behind the scenes in Halo the Series: Declassified. Just cringe at the talk show aspect.
Loved the sticky grenade
100% i bet this madrigal is out of commision shield world
Yep, or a still operating one, either way that's what they're setting up. I think Chief will come have a chat with this Monitor..
Thank you for not ranting like everyone else seems to do and just taking about the lore and Easter eggs. Little tired of the ranting lol
Im now interested to see what secrets hide madrigal and how ti will eventually tie back to the main story, the "you will see him again" his first descendant say to her about John sets up a perfect moment for Kwan giving John back his rifle.
On a side note, i was thinking that it be interesthing to see an adaptation of Kwan story in the main canon, maybe as a book covering something with a lower scope as the series i hinting at, replacing maybe John with Randall 037
but keeping Soren, Vinsher, the witches of the sand but instead of a portal maybe something in smaller scope like just some artifact.
Absulutly not. Kwan will never be in core canon. She will never appear in the real halo franchise.
@@jackgrove4621 who decides that? Any writter of core canon could just grab her and adapt her one day or any new bit of lore created for the series tho
@@ElEscolta that would still be a terrible idea unless her personality is changed into something way better than her silver timeline character.
Thanks for educating casual fans.
Oooo ooo actually one of Vinsher’s guns looked like a modified yet recognizable SMG from I wanna say Halo 5. But with more stuff on it
They are modified Kriss Vectors. The ejection port is the telltale sign.
Great episode , the plot thickens for sure and the producers are spicing things up, really enjoying the journey they are portraying
how
“You seem to be unhappy or disgruntled I guess”
Like Game Of Thrones
The Hobbit and other epic stories
Enabling the production to make a seemingly entertaining story line based on characters from the Halo games and stories must have been a very difficult task indeed “unless you only want to endless battle scenes that never end for 10 episodes” we’ll go play the game ;)
They are trying to piece together a storyline based on the above 👆🏻
It’s a series right ? With characters based on the games and books etc.

The scenes are insane
The characters are Awsome even though not perfect …. The ships and tech I mean bloody wow this is really well done ! Only my opinion

7:62 be kinda funny if it somehow they were talking about a portal leading to the ark? Or one the rings
Great recap. Gonna watch it again.
At first I thought kwan’s father was talking to 343 guilty spark at the well
Chief was in this episode for probably 2 minutes and they still managed to have him out of Armour and without a helmet for part of it
News flash: Chief can take his helmet off!
@@captainbuzzkill4658 oh course he can......he takes it off in the books sometimes but not very often.
I wouldn't mind if they had chief only take his helmet off in maybe 2 episodes but for the majority of it he had it on
10 bucks the portal is hidden under the thing Kwan blew up at the end of the episode
I had the feeling that he and his men were ONI Black-Ops Agents.
That would be cool and tie in well
Is it worth sacrificing your humanity to survive against the inhuman
@@jakespacepiratee3740 Halsey's computer mentions he basically is that. ONIs scrubbing his history.
@@KillerOrca Im glad i am basically right, I just wish they made Vinscher's connection to ONI more clear in the show, as the UNSC being control-freaks with their outer-colonies, but also handing control of an entire planet to seemingly random thugs really confused me.
@@KillerOrca Oh wait, really? Interesting..
I wonder if they'll make that more clear moving forward.
My guess is that the season may finish with the fall of Reach
Thank you Halo Cannon! I really appreciate this video. I feel that the writers and directors of the show were pulling a Dave feloni. This episodes confirms my suspicions that Kwan is this series Ahsoka Tano. This episode sounds like a acid trip

That game is actually called Halo: Titan.
This episode was interesting. Hopefully Vinsher’s still alive, I get a kick out of him!
his talent is wasted in this "show"

The guns of the Madrigal Security Forces are all real life Kriss Vectors that have been dressed up much like Sterling SMG's, MG42's, and AR15's have been dressed up for Star Wars
The Kriss Vector is also the inspiration for the VK78 Commando in Infinite so there may be a connection there
Vishner and co ride a car made by VK so.

That would be incredibly stupid if there is a portal on madirgal that leads to halo instead of them using slipspace to get to it
In my humble opinion the monitor seen in the scene is likely a submonitor.
I think everyone unanimously agrees that this episode of the show was only a Kwan out of 10.

@@jackgrove4621 Considering most Forerunner instillation of any specific size had one? Probably doing its job.
See; Interpid Eye operating on Gao, Exuberant Witness overseeing Genesis, the monitor that oversaw the Composer's Forge (which wasnt on a Halo ring), the one that Black Team fought on Line Instillation 1-4.
Nice

The writing is just poor. Why didn't Soren tell Squirrel that they were all refugees and pirates with pasts and bounties on their heads. They don't rat out and sell their own for money, Kwan was safe an he didn't pocket any money.
Shield world, hmm. Interesting.

i hope Vinsher survives and his face/body is Scarred and is on the revenge path, every series needs a good Human villain
He's too pretty. Melt half his face.
Who the hell cares about freaking Kwan? Paramount, Spielberg, and the actress who plays her........that leaves about 90%+ of us who can’t stand her
Your breakdowns are better than the show.
Thoughts in the comments? Fuckin amazing.
can you back it up?
rose teko got in halo... omg
She got real high. Lol.
thank you to explained better than our so called fake halo gamer fans...that they never played halo at all and they are just trolling youtubers to bring down paramount is their goal and its not working when you are explaining much better as i know what slip space have many components requires to make one jump....drivers, engines , deuterium fuel synthesizer , and most important is star map system is required to make it work or else ..the pirates gonna have bad next morning of traveling blind would be last thing that many won't able to return back safely or end up in blackhole ...and that happen many times before without this data that only UNSC have on their computers for guidance that do corrected calculation and formula to make perfect slip space jump...and they also need engine that gonna prove difficult that requires hijacking a full UNSC war ship...that no pirate dare to do it than hijacking cargo ships to find parts to build one of their owned...also slip space jump also limited withing distance of space ....and it never go beyond galaxy distance ...so they really need portal or gate to travel different galaxy ...yes, madrigal have one of those buried many many centuries ....built by machines when forerunner derelict ships were sent their to populate life forms from different galaxy and yes its in lore that we humans didn't born in this galaxy...we all came from parent galaxy before milky way was born , yes we are aliens to this young galaxy from far far away older galaxy is in the center of our universe
