Verrazano Bridge is underrated, I don’t think people talk about enough how marvelous this construct is

The Verrazano Bridge really needs a bike lane and MTA should restart a subway line from Brooklyn to Staten Island.

MTA is always broke -- a subway seems unlikely, I suggest you invest in swimming lessons

The residents of Staten island already voted against a subway line decades ago lol so now they just got the ferry and a bridge .

A subway in Staten Island wouldn't be feasible. It would be too expensive. Also, the bridge doesn't need a bike lane. The S53, S79 SBS, and S93 have bike racks

@BK_718 Even if there was a subway in Staten Island, it would most certainly see low ridership if the Staten Island Railway is anything to go by. Also, where would you build a line? Staten Island is a mix of suburban housing and marshland forest. There aren't many areas to even build subway stations

The bridge that was nicknamed the Guinea Gangplank by the natives, as it brought the Italians from Bay Ridge Brooklyn onto the Eastern shore of Staten Island. It transformed Staten Island from a very rural, predominantly Dutch-English-French population to a still ethnically segregated Italian, African-American and Dutch-English-French population.

Insted of having a ferry come to Brooklyn, just build a Subway to the island. They already have a tunnel partially made on both sides. 95 st station has a bit of tunnel behind a wall near the end of the platform.

In addition to being able/allowed to run across the bridge once a year, bikers get to ride across it once a year. On my dad's seventy's birthday he and I rode across as the final part of the five-borough-40 mile NYC "Bike Tour." Reaching the apex from the Brooklyn side was a significant challenge for my dad-we celebrated by holding hands (and my trying not to cry) as we costed down into Staten Island....A framed photo collage of him and I that memorable day adornes my wall.

I'm tired of hearing on every report that the ferry was the only way on and off the island. There are three automobile bridges that connect S.I. to N.J. All predate the Narrows Bridge.

She clearly stated that before the bridge there was only a ferry connecting BROOKLYN to Staten Island.
Which is true. And is a simple concept to understand. One part out of 5 of NYC that wasn't connected to the rest of the city. One part that in order to drive to you had to leave the state.
Nobody is saying prior to this bridge Staten Island had no bridges that people couldn't use to drive on and off the island. SMH.
