Thanks for watching mate, you're semi correct. Busselton is the longest timber piled jetty, Lucinda is the longest jetty but made of concrete and steel pylons 👍
Awesome video, looking forward to next weeks. Yes I remember the days you did not have to pay to go on Bussleton jetty and it is a shame they make you pay, that is one reason I no longer go on it. The Jetty is a state-owned asset and as such the City of Busselton sets the entry fee, that being the $4 Day Pass. Busselton Jetty also report having 600,000 visitors every year equaling a whopping $2.4 million in revenue (that's just walkers). The math just doesn't add up to us, so that's why we went so early. @CaravanAdventureAus Perspectives and principles are interesting aren’t they? To be able to walk out on that massive, one-of-a-kind, intact structure that is sitting in the ocean 365 days a year without having to watch out for the bits & pieces that are falling off is truly a lovely experience. Perhaps it easier to have those kind of principles when you're not part of the community that pays for the upkeep of these iconic structures...to me it felt like you're giving Busselton Jetty Inc (a not-for-profit, community-run org) the finger, instead of thanking them with your $4 each for doing a wonderful job managing the jetty so that everyone including you get to experience it...just saying!
Thanks for watching! We agree it's a great jetty, although not for profit is an interesting term. 600,000 people pay to walk on the jetty every year equating to 2.4 million in revenue from walking alone not including train or aquarium, it's reported between $300-400 thousand is spent on maintenance, also it's run by volunteers. We like the jetty, we're just more than happy to walk it early in the morning 👍 ☕️
