The VR support was fixed. It's not the GPU, everything mentioned was fixable bugs. AMD also just released support for ROCm, which is the alternative to CUDA, including the capability to convert CUDA. The power use also got a fix in the driver. I generally think it's incredibly DUMB to buy new AMD products day one with the early drivers, and also scamming people by making click bait complaints about bugs that get fixed, and never following up about the bug fix. This isn't content that should be taken serious, because it's not professional and just click baiting people with FUD.

I can confirm that Nvidia has taken the piss with some of the mid to high end 4000 series drivers (we don't work with lower end so I wouldn't know there). Nothing deal breaking but the issues are there. AMD at this date and time is by far more proactive with fixing it's issues as opposed to it's competition. Intel is covering more ground than the both of them, but that's probably because they started off with more problems.

I have serious doubts toward anyone who says he returned an AMD GPU because of "stability and driver issues". I've been using my 6600 XT for the past six months and it's been flawless. I think he just made up an excuse in his own mind because he wanted an Nvidia card.

So you're comparing a 6600XT to a 7900XTX? even though they're completely different architecture wise?, for starters one is chiplets (the first one ever) and the other is a normal monolithic die. Everybody knows *the 7000 series has severe driver and stability issues,* even AMD does, is not a secret or something "made up" you can't compare the 6000 series to the 7000 series at all, after all the 6000 series has had 2 years of drivers and are stable, the 7000 series has not.

AMD has done a lot to bring value back to the GPU market. I think their cards favor patient builders. Nvidia is usually out of the box ready to go, but this time around I'm not really sold on the extreme premiums Nvidia is asking. We've all repeated the same thing. But at like $850 for a partner 4070ti with that 12gb GDDR6X and low memory bandwidth. The 4080 and 4090 are the cards that really matter, but I feel like the 50 series will be much the same but they'll be giving us 16gb or 20gb on the cards to suddenly make Nvidia look like the leader again. That's why the 40 series has such low VRAM at the lower end. They want to sell you 4080 and up, and the 4070Ti in 3 years isn't going to be chugging along in 4k high refresh or even 1440p. I'm just gonna wait for the next generation of cards.

    AMD fanboys be like;
"But you can just re-paste the card! You can run these third-party programs to patch AMDs firmware! You can just roll back to old drivers if they break! Give them eighteen months, all these issues will be fixed!"
I've been using AMD since 2019 as well. 5700xt to 6700xt (current). Driver issues have always been an issue, and I really don't expect that to change.
Simultaneously using an Nvidia GPU on my secondary PC, I've yet to have any meaningful issues with drivers.
My next build will absolutely have an Nvidia GPU in it. The whole "AMD Fine Wine" longevity gimmick is a double-edged sword, in that you have a 'functioning' graphics card for 6+ years- but you're also spending those years in a love/hate relationship with your PC because of the sporadic issues that seemingly pop-up at least once a month.

After that, I bought a 2060, super very good GPU, but for my Nvidia, it started to annoy my life and break my head when I got my 3070, there were errors in drivers, stutters in games. but what I hated the most was when I made the jump to 4070, pfffff, I hated it with all my heart, problems in games, problems in obs, I didn't play for 1 month because I thought my PC had died, I bought the 4070 on day 0 and I said well, maybe it's Driver problem is a new GPU, well it took 6 months to sell it because nothing that was solved lasted 2 months without playing until I made the jump to a 4070ti and the problem was half solved by this point I had already changed the processor board for a better power supply Because I thought it was wrong, I even changed my old Samsung SSDs for 7500mb/s Samsung NVME and nothing solved the problem. The PC worked like a champ for 2 months and after updating drivers, the PC broke again, with everything and ready. to give up the PC I sold my 4070ti for 500 dollars and I kept quiet about an offer of a 7900xtx merc 310 black edition for 590 dollars and I said I'll give amd a chance and one last chance for me to be able to play and believe me everything is solved I'm not complaining about nothing, everything works super well!!!

I almost bought the XFX, but went with the ASRock Taichi 7900XTX, and so far it has been okay. I've had some game crashes, but I'm constantly overclocking and undervolting so those could be on me. When I run the card on stock settings it doesn't crash. But I love tweaking my system even if it only garners me 5% more performance.
The main issue I've had is screen flicker in windows. When changing tabs and doing things within a browser the screen will flicker really fast. Like a single frame flicker. It isn't a constant flicker, but just a random one here and there, and it only seems to happen when I interact with the browser. I haven't had this in games though.
It is a power hungry card, especially when overclocking it above 3000Mhz. It will have spikes up to 550w, with averages in the upper 300's.
All in all I can't complain.
I considered the 4080, and was very close to getting one, but I game at 1440p UW, don't use VR, and don't care about RT, so I went with the 7900XTX for the extra rasterization performance.

Yes RT makes a big difference, but when enabled it drops the fps too much even on a 4080 so I have no use for it. I don't like playing anything with less than 100fps, and really 150+ is ideal.

Nvida as inferior to AMD the 7900xtx is an Absolut beast of a card and blows the the 4090 away if you have a proper build , also the 7900xtx is a dedicated gaming card , AMD makes this known thats why they have a card that is specifically built for video editing its called the AMD Radeon Pro W7900 . I have 7900xtx and it out preforms the 4090 in every game I play , but then I have proper build that is only reliant on one component , as its the whole system that dictates how good your gaming performance will be not just one component , I tried the 4090 in my system ( which is a proper build and I spared no expense and got the best of the best components ) and it was total crap less FPS on every game I played , the 7900xtx preformed 30% better , anyway raytracing gimmick at best.

Let’s not forget the RTX 4080/16GB is still a cut down xx80 GPU. And only has 256 bit memory bus. For xx80 class card that make no sense at its high price. When normally they at least 320 bit bus or more for xx80 class GPUs.
Amd has always struggled at getting good stable drivers out. Hopefully they continue to improve. RDNA 3 imo was bit of letdown. They have improved over RDNA2, but imo it feels RDNA3 was more of RDNA 2+ refresh. RTX 4xxx was a joke consider they all cut down version except the 4090 at high premier price.

i was in a similar debate after all the issues i had to sort just to get that exact XFX 7900xtx to even work properly.. not to mention the VR driving/racing games i play not even loading and getting driver time out errors every time.. gpu driver somehow locking my ryzen cpu at 1.4v making it idle at 65-70c.. blah blah..
if i pulled one more strand of hair out i was going to send it back and just eat it paying out the rear for a 4090 since i already was at the point if im spending this much im buying the best they offer.. since prices are only going to keep going up with each gen..
needless to say i got things sorted with the 7900xtx and it's an absolute beast on assetto corsa with the graphics settings maxxed out in a full lobby of modded cars online which blew my mind.. like WOW the upgrade from my 5700xt which preformed almost identical to your 2060S is just insane.
plus the temps! this xfx runs so cool even under load in the vr sim titles i play it rarely goes over 55c compared to my gigabyte gaming oc(rev.2) triple fan 5700xt seeing mid 80c temps.
i also knew about the subpar VR performance prior but figured oh they'll drop a driver fix soon enough.. well they still need to, but for my use case it's getting the job done as expected and i can only hope as the saying goes with amd cards/drivers- it'll age like fine wine.
also- i'm running this card on a 10 year old evga 850 G2 with 3 separate 8 to 6+2 pin connectors on an AM4 build. i've been able to overclock without power draw being an issue aswell, but for the sake of longevity i'll keep it at factory settings with just the fan curve edited like my 5700xt.

Its not a gimmick, but how its been implemented can be considered gimmicky. Raytracing is just another name for Path Tracing, which is the method we use for professional renders in arch visualization, movies, game cinematics...etc. It actually cuts down on development time, where as baking everything down is time consuming and requires more "tricks" to give the illusion of a path traced render. It kills framerates because its doing a lot more computations. This in turn forces hardware makers to push better hardware, otherwise they don't have as much incentive to push it more than they need to.

I'm into flightsims and wanted to upgrade to Intel's latest NUC that supports discreet GPUs, so my requirements were: Max 750W, tons of VRAM, high-end GPU, must fit in the NUC. Due to the power draw I bought the 7900 XT and not the XTX. I am very happy with my choice and the performance. I'm 'VR-curious', but not in a rush so I'm pretty OK at the moment. VR in DCS with out-of-the-box-settings (SteamVR and all that jazz) was not good, so later down the line I'll try again. Check the settings, use OpenXR and stuff like that. But for now with my ultra-wide screen and TrackIR I'm more than happy.

I just got this exact card for $999 with free 5 month payment plan on Amazon. I don’t do VR or productivity so that won’t be an issue. Hoping I don’t get bit with idle power draw, tho it also looks like under volting these cards drastically lowers the power consumption while not hurting performance too much. Guess we’ll see, assuming I can get the thing into my case.
    Case spec says:
This chassis fits full length standard ATX power supply, two large CPU/GPU liquid coolers up to 240/280 mm, and long graphics card length up to 345 mm (with front 20 cm fan removed).
    GPU spec says:
13.54 x 5.04 x 2.24 inches, (and my case has the motherboard flat horizontal so the GPU sits vertical and I won’t need the bracket.)
    Google says:
    345 millimeters = 13.583 inches
So it should fit with 0.04” to spare… gonna be a tight fit (that’s what she said).

I'm prepared to cut AMD some slack, I'd be gobbed smacked if 30% of the buggy behaviour isn't due to coders not being overly familiar the quirks (all coding stacks have them) of the AMD driver stack, whereas Nvidia dominance for the last decade (and not always by fair means) means by default they get the best compatibly testing, and that Devs are well versed in the bug and performance quirks of Nvidia dev/driver stack. IT Hardware is one of few IT areas where an (mega) underdog (AMD - still a multi billion dollar company) still stands a chance in competing, I know it sounds hard to believe at ~$1000, but we are lucky the 7900XTX exist, as I'm pretty sure XTX hardware despite is smaller chip die size, costs more to make with its 8GB more VRAM for less than competition. If it wasn't for the XTX the RTX 4080 would probably be $2000 and the 4070 Super etc would still be "sporting" 12GB RAM (anything but 16GB for longevity).

Those aren't yet available in EU but should arrive in few weeks. I've heard from others that the card has lots of tiny issues, which ultimately would put most users off due to seeking reliability and stability from their graphics card, and I think it's reasonable to expect that not many users will be willing to compromise it. In this department Nvidia shines almost always with the new releases and out of the box experiences. Intels new 770A is also something to look out for imo. There's a lot of good with in these GPU's, but ultimately from customer standpoint of looking for reliability from the product, I would go with the 6000 series AMD GPU's or Nvidia's offerings. 7000 Radeon is looking to be decent card over time... But that's not a selling point and it shouldn't. I hope AMD gets their drivers optimized, because the card is just fascinating and unique.

You just hit bad luck with your AMD GPU , not sure if you a NVIDIA fan boy , but don't let this one experience put you off AMD GPU's , NVIDIA have their fair share of Fuck Up's but NVIDIA Fan Boys act like NVIDIA cant do no wrong. I have been in the PC Game for a Loooooong Time , and have had many NVIDIA and AMD GPU's and the amount of BULLSHIT Pushed by NVIDIA FAN BOYS about how bad AMD Cards are is a Load of Bullshit. At this point in time AMD and NVIDIA OWE Me , for the amount of money i have thrown at them through the years , Majority of the PC Tech channels Kids were either not around or to young to even know what a PC was when I was in the game , so trust me I have played on Both Sides of the isle , and nGreedia are not the Wonder-full Company the Fanboys love to make out they are. NVIDIA know how to pull the wool over gamers eyes especially their FAN BOYS , I remember when physics X was the new thing and how the NVIDIA Fan Boys would go wild about it , it was just a gimmick just like DLSS , so they drop your resolution so low so the card can pump out more frames then sell you the idea the card is working better with DLSS , just so you know a TV can upscale on the Fly and it don't have a 4080 GPU DLSS is the next Physics X but the FAN Boys are Blind and Dumb. I watch the NVIDIA Fan Boys they claim FSR is not as Good as DLSS but when you watch the videos without bias. You can clearly see the NVIDIA GPU has artifact;s in DLSS , but they will claim that only AMD CARD have artifact in the games or are not rendering as nice as NVIDIA.

I have RX 6600 the driver would randomly crash just by hovering over RUclips thumbnails. But now I think it is a lot better. Instead, my friends with GTX 1660 Ti's can't play Hogwarts Legacy at 1080p low possibly due to driver issue.

i have a 7900xt. I can definitely confirm most of what you said. VR isnt that great 90 percent of the time but sometimes works great and i have no clue what cause the difference. Sometimes ill get over 90fps ultra settings on project wingman and other times itll be 40ish and the glass on from the canopy will flicker. Games definitely crash alot when you first play them and less the more you do. Im going to stick to it, like my buddy said it will only get better. Ray tracing is sad but to be honest i can barely tell the difference when its on in game. Guess i dont look at the right spots or something.

It's actually sad man. Look, I'll admit I'm an AMD fanboy, and almost every PC enthusiast leans one way or the other whether they want to admit it or not, but if I had to upgrade my 6800 XT, I would most likely (at least for now) go with a 4000 from Nvidia. Last generation there were way more incentives to go for AMD, but this generation? Not so much. Both are expensive as hell! I even had to deal with the BSOD and reinstalling of Windows after updating my GPU driver. Absolutely unacceptable. That being said, OC potential is crazy, all I do is video editing, coding, 1440p gaming, and therefore all I need FOR NOW is a 6800 XT. We'll see if AMD can improve their 7000 series through updates and such. Great video!

I’m a little confused on the streaming aspect of the video. Are you saying that the 4080 will work better on default settings? Also with the AMD would you have to change settings every time you want I stream, edit, VR, etc?

    • @Vanity7k
      @Vanity7k  Год назад

Nvidia has their NVENC encoder which is better for streaming, with the AMD card I tried a lot of different settings and it works well but I had to mess with it way more. VR at the time I recorded this video performed awful on the XTX, not sure about it now since I got the 4080 for $1015 and haven’t looked back..
