    As Combatives practitioner of The Fairburn Method/Protocols, Urban Combatives-Lee Morrison, Kembatives -Kelly McCann and Target Focus Training TFT-Tim Larkin, I'm impressed. This style excels at gross motor movement which, is vital, during an adrenaline-dump-fear inducing physical confrontation. If I had to train in a traditional style, then Sifu Child's interpretation of Choy Lay Fut is probably the one I would choose.

    Also There are countless numbers of people who would disagree with your estimate of Choy Lay Fut not being effecient as the system is well known for its victories in full contact competitions.

    As for what is "up with the double haymakers" as a hung kuen "practitioner" you should be familiar with these techniques as Gwa choi, Kup Choi. Actually these techniques are extremely common throughout most southern systems with roots in guangdong province which leads me to believe,along with your lack of knowledge of recovery techniques, you have either not been training long or you have not been taught correctly.

    I see the Cross leg stance is actually practical to save your “outdoor” when your center line is taken.a lot of school drills just stop at taking opponents centreline and counter, or vice Verde. This clip Really opened my eyes. Thank you!

    "Choy Li Fut is the most effective system that I’ve seen for fighting more than one person. It is one of the most difficult styles to attack and defend against. Choy Li Fut is the only Kung Fu style that traveled to Thailand to fight the Thai boxers and hadn't lost." - Bruce Lee
    This was in the 60’s & 70’s where Choy Li Fut masters would travel to Thailand to fight Thai boxers and actually win. Unlike most traditional Kung Fu styles. Although, some Choy Li Fut fighter’s did lose later. Still impressive for a traditional Kung Fu style.

    I have 1 more point to address. If you define "efficiency" in martial arts as striking the closest available target with your nearest weapon sometimes turning as presented in the video can be more effecient than attempting to reposition yourself to face the opponent depending on the situation (this is said in the video as well)

    I love Choy Li Fut, i learned SIU MUI FA KUEN as a child from Kong's Siu Lum Pai, even tho we are a Hung Kuen school, ive always loved that form from CLF.
    bruce lee, a wing chun man said CLF is the hardest style to both attack and defend against!!
    i cant stand wing chun with their patty cake strikes and robotic and still weak blocking system... the long range punches of CLF, HOP GA, LAMA PAI crash through the wing chun defense 8 out of 10 times.
    Great video brother, stay blessed.. Happy new year!

    • @808fdup2

      Depends...
      Karate uses straight movements and is compared to an Iron bar smashing into the opponent.
      where as Choy Lee Fut is compared to an iron chain with an iron ball at the end..
      As far as combative... Karate has great kicks, where CLF uses a low base, it will be hard for a CLF man to defend most kicks, however if the CLF man has knowledge and ability of the 5 transitional kung fu stances, kicks will be muffled..
      as far as hands, i believe CLF guys strike harder due to the heavy swings and body weight recruitment during each strike. On the inside a Kyokushin style fighter would most likely eat up a choy li fut man, however people need to realize that CLF does have close range technique.
      on the other side of the token.. Karate men actually spar, where CLF guys traditionally dont spar..
      Now days, CLF guys are sparring and testing their style against many systems and for that matter i would say if a CLF man trains in a realistic fashion, their over all style is more well rounded then Karate and more explosive and realistic for the modern day.
      Note: My first style was Wado Ryu Karate and I love that system. and i have great respect for men of Kyokushin background.. also i have family that are heavy Goju Ryu men.

      Yes Choy Lee Fut is considered a southern Chinese boxing method.
      Every Kung Fu system has a category of Submission Wrestling or Grappling.. However very different from what you see in the UFC or Brazilian Jiujitsu..
      The two phases of grappling in Kung Fu is called: Chin Na which means "Seize and Control" and is basically small joint manipulation focusing on wrist, elbow, shoulder and neck locks.
      The other phase of Chinese grappling is called: Shuai Jiao which is considered Chinese Fast Wrestling.. Chinas original martial arts system, Shuai Jiao incorporates throws, sweeps, slams, and takedowns similar to Judo yet done with a vest on instead of a Kimono style jacket. In my opinion, Shuai Jiao is the CLEANEST form of throwing and sweeping opponents. The technique is very clear and obvious.

    • @SifuChrisChilds
      @SifuChrisChilds  7 лет назад +3

      It is not correct to say "clf guys traditionally don't spar". There will always be some differences in terms of training methodologies from school to school. However, in general not only do most CLF schools spar but practitioners of the system have been heavily involved with full contact competition since at least the 1950's. So under the real definition of the word traditional, sparring is definitely a huge part of traditional CLF practice. I've actually done some videos recently about this topic and how kung fu schools as a whole would benefit from sport combat training protocols

    • @808fdup2
      @808fdup2 7 лет назад

      Hung Sing Martial Arts Association Very true, i agree.. and being from the Hung Sing school, you would know, naturally..
      However I hardly consider the 1950's to describe traditional martial arts.. I relate "traditional" training to that from the early 1500's-the late 1800's..
      I consider two man forms to be a type of sparring. But as far as the umbrella term for full contact punches, kicks, knees, elbows, takedowns in full contact sparring. Most Kung Fu practitioners were not and still dont do that.. and the ones that do have moved into training SANDA.
      However as i said, i admire the CLF lineage and style and i fully believe in its effectiveness..
      additionally i encourage all CLF, Wing Chun, Hung Ga men to train more realistic against the modern expressions such as Sport boxing, Kick-boxing and Mixed Martial Arts. its always good to know what actually works in defending oneself.
      Your school may be sparring since the 50's but honestly man most Kung Fu guys shy away from full contact striking.

    • @SifuChrisChilds
      @SifuChrisChilds  7 лет назад +1

      I cant defend all of "kung fu" or how they train or honestly even other Choy Lay Fut practitioners don't always train in a way I'd consider to be the most efficient. I agree with much of what you are saying but I think there are a few points that are a little more complex than most people think. for instance the meaning of traditional, most of what is considered to be representative of traditional Chinese martial arts actually does not go back further than the Republic period of Chinese history (1912-1949). Not only is there no way to know exactly how people training 1500-the late1800's but why would anyone want to? Which brings me to the argument of Kung fu practitioners training "full contact". If we go by how you define traditional, 1500-late 1800, then no one was training full contact anywhere with any type of consistency then because the safety equipment necessary to do so wasn't invented yet. During the republic period That equipment was beginning to be used by kung fu practitioners and by the 1950's(almost 70 years ago) it was starting to become common place. That brings us to SanDa. Some schools, mostly from mainland china, train sanda as a separate system. However, most of what you actually see is "traditional" Chinese martial artists using sanda as a competitive format in which to test their skills in a full contact fight. Sanda also has traditions in older competitive formats such as lei tei matches held by the Nanjing Central Goushu institute in the 1920's. If you ignore the developments of the last century then of course kung fu is outdated. Something to consider is that Muay Thai which is considered to be the premier striking method of combat sport competitors, don't follow the ruleset it does now (gloves, ring, rounds etc.) until the 1920's either.

    If you watch the video you will hear me state several times that this is a technique from the traditonal forms that is used only as a last resort when you find yourself already compromised or more specifically when your opponent has already reached your back. Recovery techniques like this are often not as effecient as primary techniques as they are used after a mistake has been made and correct positioning or stucture in not possible.

    Amazing technique Sifu.... I have trained in Hap gar style..... Very close systems,, loose arms, strong hips. My sifu taught me 99% of street fights end up arms waving about. So like your style, I trained loose shoulders and strong legs and stance. Imagine a weight (fist) and a loose arm /shoulders (rope) when trained it's VERY EFFECTIVE. And with 3 star conditioning and other arm training?

    Awsome stuff! @ Joshua Wilkerson those wide angle strikes are used in our Lama system and I have KOed people with cup choys, thats my move, when spinning u usually are spinning and angling away from your opponents advancing attack and as u spin u clear your blind side with the strike.Anything in the way whether its a strike or their head it gets blasted so they cant attack. Shashoni Carter beat Matt Serra in UFC with exactly that technique because it can work in the right situation. Thank u :)

    nice again! there is Spinning Kicks and all kinds of kicks, yet due to the abundance of techniques in all directions and the arsenal on chinese wrestling and applied kam lah methods within the forms and in training applications using different dynamics than the more common ones! some kicks are much useful than others, leg catching for most CLF practitioners, no matter what lineage, is simple and easy, maybe that's why fancier kicks are avoided, Chan Kiork, Ding Kiork and Dang kiork are lethal straight through kicks, I have used them in the street and they really work! greetings from Chicago

      Tiger Chang Different phonetic. It's the same. Pronounced as Choy Lay Fut ( think of fart). Chai Li Fu is in mandarin. Choi Li Fut, Choy Li Fut, Choi Lei Fut, and etc, they are the same.

    • @sifurodrigo4291
      @sifurodrigo4291 10 лет назад +1

      ..well true about phonetic, it's cradle is the same,Kin Mui Village in the southern province of Guang Zhou, were Chan Heung it's creator was born, since the amount of students he had was supposedly big and from different parts of the Country, there's various Choy Lee Fut styles, but they all keep several amount of techniques similar. and the forms too. I believe Cai Li Fo, would be more of a Chinese sound above all. good thing is the system stays true to its roots, yet lineages are different, but source is the same. that's to my knowledge...I also believe Google does not give proper information, don't know why. greetings.

    Hi Chris, new to channel, I'm a beginner in C.L.F. (just a few years). I came from kajukenbo. C.L.F. is 1 of the Chinese systems in kajukenbo along w/ Hun Gar, N.Shoulin,& Chinese kenpo, there seems to be a significant importance of C.L.F.
    Head founder Adriano Emparado (Chinese kempo)held a title of Master in C.L.F.
    Clarence Chang who brought in H.G./Nrthn.Shoulin/also held Master rank in CLF. It wraps up w/ Frank Ordanez(jujitsu/judo) & Peter Choo: Korean karate(Tang soo do). I seemed to have been drawn to the Chinese m.a. so I chose C.L.F. after kaju.

    we don't even really spar just the slow punch and then move around and counter
    which is not reality but its all there is in town..
    I might switch to arnis de mano which also trains with bare hands and they also box to.
    I do sometimes slap box (pak box) with my son he takes boxing...sparing with him really helped me to understand someone else's forward pressure.
    I think my body is more suited for choy ley fut I have wide shoulders..I learned thru the Tai chi chaun some foot work like Choy lay fut and learned a spin punch and man I could feel the power...

    Question from a inquisitive Hung Ga Kuen, Taijiquan, and former Wing Chun Kuen practitioner: spinning, even outside to regain exposes you why use this? And what's up with your double haymakers, we have a double water strike that catches chin with upward strike and a rolling fist at same time then clear and a quick leopard to bridge of nose, that's the hung system, C.F.L. Does not look efficient, just saying

      dude.. I saw a lot of knockouts with a spinning back kick.
      Choy Lay Fut is a system to fight with many opponents. In the black belt exam you must fight with two or more opponents at the same time. And you say that you NEVER try to spin.

      I have studied the san so (fighting hands) of choy ley fut for many years. I use to do multiple attackers for 2-3 minutes with 7-8 attackers all at one time and at random and I would never get hit. So I do understand timing which most people do not.
      Therefore if you understand timing and someone turns there back on me while trying to do say a spinning back fist or a spinning back kick they are way to slow.The door is open one can step right in there when there back is to you. Do you understand ?
