    Tom, THANK YOU very much for producing these excellent videos. Having been off Air for over 15 years... am now confronted with many new terms, Dstar DMR, Fusion, APRS, F8, Whisper etc etc. My poor 77 year old brain is reeling under info overload!. Am about to order the 705, in no small measure to your excellent video tutorials. Am deeply grateful to you, these beautyfully produced videos take bucket loads of time to produce to the outstanding quality that yours have. Pleasae rest assured that it is appreciated far more than this post can hope to express!.

    New ham, newer still to the IC-705...and you just saved me a TONNE of time with your tip on configuring the physical buttons for other functions: no digging into the menus to hit "TUNE" anymore.
    Enthusiastically "liked and subscribed." Thanks you.

    Great work sir. I just got the 705 and am just shy of a year with ham radio. Your videos are very clear and well presented. Thank you for the work put into these videos, I know they take more time than most people realize.

    Today I learned a valuable piece of information about updating IC-705 and IC-7300 firmware - When the software asks if you want to continue with the operation (after saving your current settings), you need to press and HOLD the Yes option. Treating it like a mouse click will only result in the radio staring back at you.

    Thanks for the video. I changed my BK-IN button so it will activate my Tuner. Plus you can turn off tune when changing bands when in CW or SSB. That was annoying to me. Looking forward to more videos on the IC 705, specifically WIFI and what usefulness it will be. 73 de KN3A.

    Hello Tom. Well as a new owner of the 705 i find your videos to be the most helpful of all the vids. Available for the 705. Unlike the manuel that comes with the radio which is not very helpful keep up the good work and thankyou. Ron zuccala. The north American shortwave radio and toy robot museum at spring Dale. Pa.

    While the SDcard is in PC/Laptop, copy the rig's settings to PC too.. Just in case..
    I like the setting's preset function.
    Thank you, 73.

    When updating the firmware, deleting any old update files on the SD card first is a good idea. However I would save copies of all firmware update files on another disc or on my computer, that way if an update has problems I can always go back and load the old update file until any issues are resolved with the new update. 😉👍

    Tom, thanks for taking the time to produce these videos. They're helpful and educational. As a question, what type of tripod are you using for your IC-705 in the video?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  3 года назад +1

      Hi Nick. Thanks for taking the time to comment and for the kind words. I first saw the recommendation for the tripod on Ham Radio Crash Course ruclips.net/video/deG_nl9Hxcc/видео.html - another RUclips channel. It's a Manfrotto PIXI. Josh was talking about how great it was and I happened to have that same tripod in my camera case. So I tried it. It does work great for getting the radio up off the table and putting it at just the right height and angle to use. You can get one here: amzn.to/3qRoYCU (Full disclosure- It's an Amazon affiliate link)

    Excellent info. I wish someone would go through the new scope features in 1.20, I don’t really understand them. I also wish the second front panel access button had a larger selection to choose from, or perhaps just mirror the options for the first button. Thanks!

    Good vids. Tx. Did you discuss how changing the DATA OFF MOD setting affects transmitting audio using the MIC? It seems if you change that setting to USB of doing digital/packet, for example, then you must return to that menu when finished with data/USB and select MIC. Otherwise, if you don’t, then you will transmit RF but not audio.

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  3 года назад +1

      Hi. The better option is to leave the DATA OFF MOD set to use the MIC and set the DATA MOD option to use USB. Then when you want to work data modes, once your on USB or LSB (or FM if you want to use data modes on VHF or UHF simplex) then press the mode option again. In the mode menu, press DATA. The the display mode will show LSB-D (or USB, or FM). When the -D is displayed, the radio will get it's audio from the DATA MOD source. When the -D is not displayed, the radio will get its audio from the DATA OFF MOD source.

    Great ic705 videos. To be clear there are 4 videos in the series as of Feb 8, 2021?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  3 года назад +3

      Hi Daniel. Thanks for the kind words. Yes, 4 so far. Unfortunately, video production has to fit in with my day job and family functions. So, not making them as fast as I’d like. There are quite a few more I’ve done on the 7300 over several years. You will find that many of the scope and other functions are nearly identical to the 705. So if you can’t wait, you might check out some of those.

    Tom, thanks for your videos! What is the difference in using the PRESET MEMORY vs SD CARD SAVE SETTINGS in saving the 705 settings for various modes?

    • @HamRadioA2Z
      @HamRadioA2Z  Год назад

      Hi Randy. Thanks for the kind words. The Save Settings and Load Settings options save and load every single setting and all of the memories. You could use those as a kind of preset by using file names that make sense to you for each setup you want. The Preset memories just save a subset of parameters that are the most relevant for switching between voice and different digital modes. The presets also work more like the frequency memories. So you can just go to the preset menu and pick which one you want.

      @@HamRadioA2ZThanks, Tom! Other memory questions: If I import a Repeater List.CSV it shows up when I am in DR mode, but not in my created memory list in Memory Mode. If I add my FM repeaters to that same CSV file (to have a single list), they (FM and DV) do appear when in DR Mode, and can be individually selected even, but when they are selected, I am still in DR mode so I cannot actually use the FM repeater as the DUP/TONE etc are not enabled since it is in DR MODE. When I switch from VFO to Memory, those repeaters in the Repeater List.CSV (DV or FM) do not appear, but the created Memory Mode repeaters do. Seems like there are two different memory banks - 500 in the Memory Mode and 5000(or so) for the DR Repeater.CSV list. The DR Repeater.CSV is only useful for DR repeaters, and the Memory Mode list only good for FM (or analog non-DR) repeaters (or CW/SSB/FT8, nets, etc). Is that true or am I missing something here? Is there no way to have just a single list?

    • @randybuckspan4835
      @randybuckspan4835 Год назад

      Dumb me, I figured it out: The Repeater List.CSV is not a memory list, but a "list" to be used/selected and individual repeaters can be added to my Memory List. I have all my local FM repeaters in a Group "Local FM" and the DStar repeater I can connect to in a Group "DStar". Once selected, the Dstar repeater can be used in DV Mode, and the UR and FROM changed as needed (from the Repeater List.CSV if I want)! DR is a shortcut to DStar, separate from the repeater selected using the Memory List, without the nice UR/FROM box......

    This is a question, I'm following your videos (nice job!!) ...I have all 3 radios, IC-705/7300/9700. The IC-705 will not connect and stay connected to my computer with blue tooth. It appears to find the two computers that I use, but then won't connect, or show momentary connection and then disconnect. Any ideas or suggestions?

      I haven’t tried connecting the 705 to a computer with Bluetooth, only with WiFi. Are you trying to just pass audio, or are you also trying to control the radio over bluetooth?
