Thank you very much. I ran into the same problem. The speaker wouldn't turn on, and when turned off, the display backlight was blinking. Inside, I didn't see any signs of damage, all components were intact, including capacitors. I checked the voltages - there was actually 4V on the 5V bus, the other buses were fine. I started looking for information and found your video. I checked the capacitor that you replaced. Mine was also damaged - the capacitance was 90 μF instead of 1000 μF, although it looked fine visually. After replacing the capacitor and checking the voltage on all buses, everything was OK. Now it works.
This is ridiculous. This is not an old models. I notice too many of these KRK's are faulty. This is a great shame. I do like how these speakers look. Also I have heard they sound good too. But reliability is paramount. You done a good job, Man. Thanks for sharing. Bless.
They do sound good. And that's why they suck. They're marketed as monitoring speakers, which are supposed to be flat and revealing. And one of mine has just shit the bed (been using them more for home theater, than mixing)
FOR REAL @ElTheEclectic, I can't thank you enough, I was about to buy a used speaker too replace the mainboard of mine, but it all it took was this one capacitor as I had the EXACT same problem on my KRK rokit 10,3 G4. Now my speaker works again and that's because of you! you safe me over 400€ thank you so much!
I believe I might be having the same problem on one of my rokit 8 WN edition, it will not turn on, I opened it up and found the same bulged cap, but Im absolutely not qualified to do such repairs, will try showing this video to the local repair shop tho so thanks for this.
If you have the blinking screen issue like I did, continue reading. I had that issue a month ago right after the warrantee ran out, just like the mailman did from your moms bedroom that one time you came home early from school, but I digress. So, now inspired and armed with the knowledge it can't get much worse than not doing it's ONE job, I opened her up (the monitor, not your sister this time) and I couldn't see anything amiss. So I left it plugged in and in the on position in hopes it would completely fail and hopefully leave a visual que along with it when it does. Woke up today, gave your other sister a kiss, then noticed something was different. Finally realized the monitor wasn't blinking anymore! Phase one of my genius plan to simultaneously wait on two things to happen that may never ACTUALLY happen actually happen!. Opened her up again and alas, the sight I was beholden to twas like the light of the full moon on a mid summers night in a deep and tucked away forest glen , glinting off the spray of the nearby waterfall that had found it place of respite on a newly blossomed orchid that did so as if merely for the sake of giving the mist a new bed on which to dream....that happens to be right next to my KRK RIKKIT 7 G4 I can now repair because the cap had catastrophically failed , thus allowing me to be able to visually see the point of failure! I feel like a Just wone a jackpot twice and the winnings are my broken monitor. And honestly, the only thing that could make this better is hookers and blow, but bringing up your mom or sister again so soon would really miss the mark.
Huge t hanks to you sir! The power went out at my house and took down one of my KRK R7s (wouldn't power on). I opened it up and saw the same swollen capacitor. Took me 30 minutes and a 40 cent replacement capacitor to get it working again. Seems like this happens to many people, sounds like poor circuit design. I wonder how many of these speakers go into the trash because of this! Such a shame.
Perfect diagnosis - just had a KRK Rokit 7 G4 die for no reason on friday. Found it was the same capacitor (component C7 on the power board) issue as shown here (after first testing it wasn’t a fuse issue). 84 cents for a new capacitor later - new capacitor installed - good as new. Am in Melbourne Australia.
Had a flickering problem with the rokit 5 g4 (wouldn't turn on and back display kept flickering). followed your steps, used the exact same size capacitor and voila. Thanks! (update: the speaker still works for 10-15 mins when i boot it up, and then starts to cut on and off for about 5 mins and then just fully cuts off all sounds. It stays on, the display and everything works. The capacitors are still good. Any advice would be much appreciated!)
That components fail so fast 4-5 years old the manufacturer should be ashamed going for cheap ass capacitors is a recipe for disasters, just imagine if they went with good quality ones and maybe beefed up the secondary side with two 1000uF you will have lower esr and much longer service time.
Good Work! I have a problem with the same PCB, the resistor R25 and the controller U2 on the primary side are defective. Can you tell me exactly what they have to be? I can no longer see the label.
Thanks so much!!! Bullseye first time. These green capacitors are chinese and low quality. The one on the video failed on me when flipped the main switch on.
What's the cause for this? I have the same issue. Same cap that's swollen up. Is it just general wear and a cheap component? Or is there likely an electrical fault elsewhere causing it to fail?
I have the same problem with my KRK Rokit 7 G4. It doesn't turn on anymore. I've checked the glass fuse and its burned. changed it to a new one, burned too directly... KRK Support is very bad. where can i buy a new power supply module?
My KRK Rockit 7 powers on (the screen and LED turn on) but I am getting no signal to the drivers. How can I figure out where the specific issue is? Edit: I have already checked cables and output devices. My guess is it has something to do with the input port.
I have the same power board (KRK PR7/8/103) but the problem with mine is that they changed the U1 and I don't have the data sheet to know which is the original. could you tell me what it is? Tanks
The power supply unit is defective on my Rokat5 G4. The controller chip is defective. The name is 65A1 or 741F I can't find this chip online. Can you help me what kind of controller chip I can use?
My rokit works fine but sound cut off in between for a second then it comes for around 20seconds then again cut off for a second and this happens continuously.... whats the problem not able to figure out
It is not uncommon for capacitors to fail. They tend to swell and sometimes burst but they can also fail without any visual indication. Made in China, so the manufacturer might have switched capacitor suppliers to save money without informing KRK. There are problems with counterfeit capacitors in the supply chain. In the 90's we had millions of them failing due to Chinese manufacturer stealing the formula from a Taiwan manuf. Well a bit of counter corporate espionage resulted in a faulty chemistry. All the capacitors began failing around the same time. IBM / HP / Apple and many others were impacted. Fortunately, it's an easy fix most anyone could do with a multi-meter, basic soldering iron, electronics solder and some patience. Back in the 60's and 70's is was not uncommon for sound engineers to be fixing their studio gear themselves.

@@bsant7 you just need to be able to use a hot stick or whatever it’s called

Just bought a new set of KRK's because of this. Saving this for later. I'll replace the caps on both and resell them refurbished.
My right monitor failed in the same way. This video helped me diagnose and fix the problem. Thank you so much!

What kind of capacitor or model is? I have no experience. Thanks
I would like to know the model too since I have the same bulged capacitor

Cannot thank you enough. Saved my speaker!
I just fixed the same problem with my 5 g4. Thank you so much!
yup same bad capacitor in my 5s. with you would had posted a link to the part. great video.
Thanks, this video really helped me
I just had the EXACT same thing happen to mine. Must be a design flaw. Mouser to the rescue.
1st it was their black glue that was hydroscopic, now it's caps that only last 4 years - ouch -.
Perfect as standard at Your channel. I love Your Korg synth
Thanks for this video, it helped me alot! Had the same issue like shown here and it fixed my problem :)
me too. going to order part and do repair
Same exact
Thank you! Fixed Mine! ✌🏼
Now the speaker boots up. Something tells me that there is far too much technology in a lot of modern equipment!
All that only to provide a digital eq ok the speaker in the name of DSP. Not worth the extra effort
What is substitution for IC CL2106OH ?
KRK ROKIT 5 G4 power supply.
Can't find datasheet.
Thank you.

My G4 rokit 7 LCD has gone blank but the speaker still powers on and works?? Could it possibly be the same issue and capacitor i wonder...
Can I just pop a replacement capacitor back into place or do I have to have it welded?
I don't think I have written correctly. The chip I mean is the 3 pin chip that can be seen at the top of the mosfet.
Where you bought the Capacitor replacement sir?

Where you ever able to figure it out? One of mine is having that exact same issue but I can’t figure it out.
my power switch is turned on and the lcd keeps blinking. any help?
same problem here
have you fixed it already?
A graphical display on the back of a speaker - WTH ...
I had 2 speakers fail in the exact same manner, and both out of warranty. It is abysmal that they keep using these crappy capacitors!
