Born in Ireland, Tom Barry of @bsidesounds is a digger & DJ living in Hamburg. Prior to moving to Germany, he spent the first decade after university living and working in Spain, and that is where an education and love for world music would begin. Latin, obscure covers and East German pop & funk are favourites in his sets. He also has a keen interest in folk & traditional Irish music and is delighted about sharing the genre with the MAJ family.
Trad On Wax: 60 Years of Folk & Traditional Irish Music
"Music is central to Irish cultural history. Its character and identity are ingrained in its music.
The mix encompasses a broad spectrum of Irish music, spanning from the folk revival of the mid-20th century right up to the present day. It includes both traditional forms (featuring instruments like fiddles, bodhráns, and uilleann pipes) as well as contemporary adaptations that incorporate Western textures, harmonies, arrangements (with instruments like guitars, bouzouki, mandolins, and the drum kit).
Irish music, and all its forms, remains an integral part of the cultural identity in Ireland and across the Irish diaspora. This mix attempts to capture some of the main contributors to the genre from over the last 60+ years (which is no easy feat in 45 minutes!) and is the ideal soundtrack for your St. Patrick's Day celebrations this weekend."

Beside that, hope you enjoy the tunes!

Never heard anyone DJ folk music like this, really cool.
I'm loving the music....but I feel like the whole vibe and aesthetic of his set up really needs to be appreciated. I want to be there sitting on a floor pillow. such a uplifting and beautiful listening party vibe
It was my first time listening to folk irish music and i have to say IT WAS SO GOOD, that good nd soft vibe u need to keep going with life❤, thnks dude u made me a great time
Never hit play so fast. I live close to Boston where Brian O’Donovan used to be the DJ for Celtic Sojourn, a beloved fixture within the folk community and kind soul. This set reminds me of all the Saturday afternoons and Christmases I spent listening to his program or attending concerts he arranged. Thanks for this. ☺️😢🥹
Go on, the Irish.

Great set! I recognize a few of these from a Green Linnet compilation my mom got me as a teenager. One of them is Music for a Found Harmonium, which was featured in the movie Napoleon Dynamite!
This is so cool, up the tradrave. If anyone wants to hear other stuff that mixes DJing/turntablism with trad, checkout DJackulate, who also happens to be a great uilleann piper!
Vazi Johnny..
There’s a song featured in Napoleon Dynamite! What is it? Thank you!

the person who founded/runs this channel is Turkish, and the type of rug is a flat-weave Turkish kilim. I'm gonna guess it was purchased in Istanbul :)
