"Did'nt look like foul play ?" Who's that, his dad ? Its a defence by method of attack, the 90 degree tricep to forearm is an elbow to jaw hit. Absolutely no gentlemanly conduct or ounce of fairplay in this move ! Off you go boyo !
It’s not with a lot of force, and it’s not with the elbow, but it’s the forearm to the face. Laws have been very clear in that any contact to the head like that it MUST be a red card.
Commentator at the end "intention doesn't matter these days" ... and nor should it. The head is sacrosanct. Players are now directly responsible for their actions, intentional or not, and are being held accountable for them. This is not before time!
If it wasn’t intentional or reckless than why should they be penalized? That’s like sending a driver to jail because he ran into a small child who ran out into the road from behind some cars in a freak accident.
@@MrBoothyboy1988 And you are right, that driver should not be jailed, but the two scenarios are not even close to being comparable. In Rugby the Laws make it clear that all players have a duty of care, and that they must not put themselves into a position where they risk contact the opponent's head directly and with force. Green 14 led with his elbow and forearm above his own shoulder, where did he think he would likely make first contact with any would-be tackler? To relate this to your scenario, if a driver is driving past a school at twice the legal speed limit and hits a child who runs out between cars, that driver, by his own actions, has put himself into a position where he risks being unable to react in time to avoid hitting a child who runs onto the road. Do you still think that driver is not at fault?
2:22 "It's a bit harsh". But players know the regulations (or should) and the consequences of contact to the head are widely publicised. The tackle should probably have been lower, but a forearm/elbow to the head is always going to yield a red card these days.

I agree and I do not get the people defending it. You don't fend like that, you can't bend your arm and run forward with your forearm in front of you, or use your forearm to fend. The tacklers body position seems wrong but that does not mean you can smash them in the face with your elbow/forearm.

However, I'll support most reasonable measures that increase player safety and I don't think we should downplay them.
Folks I watched the contact several times, and I still can't work out how or why the defender went down like that. The impact at first appears to be Gee's hand, not his forearm or elbow, apparently to the defender's shoulder. So it just looked like a normal fend, and the only criticism seems to be that it was quite high. However, it seems that his arm flexes backwards at the point of contact, thus his arm did strike him. Yet Gee's arm did not look still nor did he raise his elbow. So I am surprised that the defender fell back. I still can't see how you get a red card for that. If you run into a defender, of course your arm is going to flex on impact. So I'd say it is bad luck but neither a deliberate forearm or a deliberate high shot.
