Jim and Ant fired couple lines, dying laughing, Opie took 3 dumbest callers possible in the row to kill the segment.

Sometimes you need a cue to move everything along. It's not always about laughing and having fun. Sometimes listening to radio takes work.
Anthony's instinct to "yes, and" and go along with Jimmy's characters in the moment is better than most trained improv comics Ive heard.
Until Oqie tries to get in on the fun and ruins it. Every. Time.

That's one of the reasons why the Nopie shows are so enjoyable. No calls, just Ant and Jim shooting the shit.
But how will we ever be entertained without Lady Trucker's valuable insight or Steven S. From Bayshore's witty one-liners? Everyone knows the real humor lies within the listeners & wannabe jokesters, not the actual comedians & funny people in the studio.

Yeah. Sucking a dogs dick, a goose fucking his girlfriend, goose shit, all he needed was an insertion joke and an AIDS joke and we would’ve had Jim Norton bingo. I’ve always thought Jim was hilarious on the show but in hindsight he basically had six or seven jokes. But here I am, still listening to clips from a radio show that died more than a decade ago. It was the best of its time.

As much as Opie makes fun of "hack radio", he's guilty of many of the same sins like taking callers or discussing reality TV. I also can't stand his obsession with "there might be a bit here". Instead of letting something form organically, he has to point out and force the direction of the guys, turning 2 funny minutes of radio into 10 minutes of extending a joke until it's dead. I used to believe the theory that he guides the show and helps the focus, but he just derails it instead.
when radio was fast paced and snappy Opie had purpose. when the show evolved he stayed behind

Ant has said on his current show that Opie's in-laws were very vocal about not liking certain kinds of jokes done on the show. Things like pedophiles & religious humor were mentioned. Anytime Jim or Ant went on about those things he usually stayed very quiet or tried to redirect to something else. You can hear it a bit in this clip. Jim has also mentioned several times how much Ope hated Uncle Paul especially after his kids were born. So of course Jimmy would continue doing the character as much as possible. 😂

I notice that happens a lot on the show. Ant and Jim are on a run and even though there may be a few second lulls here and there, Opie's inner broadcaster just can't stand a few seconds of dead air and has take calls or bring up another news story. The only reasons I listen to O&A is because they bring on funny people and mossly forgo a lot of the formulaic radio stanbys. Trust me, no one is ever listening to the show and thinks, "This could really use some listener calls right about now".
moduscorp it was mostly to draw more people in amd make them feel like they were part of it. By including them through paltalk and calls and all the different chats and 2 way video feeds they created a "party" atmosphere for the show. Instead of being a formulaic morning show, they could be more like just guys getting together riffing and even "joe from pokipsee" could be part of it

They are completely wrong re: the "but" part at around 13m. It was totally apt for her to say what she did. There WAS a conflict in it. "The music goes on"... which is a positive thing, "but the drama goes on" is a negative thing. THAT is the counter that makes "but" perfectly good to use. It doesn't have to be that one thing "goes on" and then what follows "but" is something that does NOT "go on." What is especially funny about that is that it is a self own. They were trying to shit on someone for wording something poorly/wrongly, and in so doing, they demonstrated that they didn't know wtf they are talking about. It is like the dumb shit people post on facebook re: how to calculate a math equation, and someone jumps in as the Yoda of math and doesn't even understand the basic order of operations, but insists everyone who got it right is wrong. LOL
Jimmy's line "what a 'cant'" after "Paul Unka" should have gotten a bigger laugh. Or any laugh.
