Note on dewclaws - they DO touch the ground but during running, so don't think the dog doesn't need them! They prevent painful torsion of the legs that can cause them pain (that they won't reveal to you due to their instinctive nature) their entire lives and arthritis later on, and the dews also aid in balance.

Any tips for dogs who are terrified to get their nails cut? Our groomer can’t even cut one of my dogs nails sometimes because he freaks out so bad. I have a pug and a beagle, the pug got his nails cut at the vet once and they had to have 2 vet techs and my mom hold him because he was so scared. The beagle is terrified off the clippers themselves, but the pug just absolutely hates anyone touching his feet no general. I’ve tried working on it with him, but he’s old and doesn’t usually cooperate. Any tips?

My dog has very overgrown clear nails. It’s easy to see the pink quick inside. But I just noticed some of the nails have turned a little dark. It kinda looks like she injured them and they bled inside. So can I clip on the dark part, would it just be old blood in there? The whole nail is darker, to the tip. Thanks

Thank you, I like the spoon idea 😊 could you think about doing a video on sleeping dogs, ie should you just leave them be, how to wake or move a sleeping dog without the growling as sometimes they fall asleep in the wrong place (my four month old puppy does and dislikes being moved).
    Many thanks again 😁

Teach your dog to lay on his back for nail trimming. Easiest thing ever. Then you're looking straight down at the claws when you're doing rear nails, and they're taking a nap.

When I try and clip my small dogs nails, the nail will start to turn or go sideways when I start putting pressure on the nail with the cutters. It makes my dog freak out. I don't know how to stop this?

How frequently do you recommend trimming your dog's claws? I too would love a video specifically about trimming black dog claws.

Hi there, Joachim! If you can get on a bi-weekly nail trimming schedule that would be great. We have some trainers who do weekly trimming of their dog's nails. It's fairly dog dependent though. And there are so many factors that contribute to nail length and health (mentioned in the video). Frequent checks of your dog's nails is easy to do and will help you to gauge how often you should be trimming your dog's nails! Thanks for watching! ~Ken

My dog is almost 7 years old. She had her nails trimmed by our vet several times and I was done in about 3 or 4 minutes. She never minded it. Then he trimmed her nails to short and 4 of them were bleeding. After that he tried to draw blood from her paws and couldn’t get blood but said I need a smaller needle. My dog was crying and shaking so bad. Then I took her to a highly recommended dog groomer and the 2nd time I took her there, she also had bleeding paws. Now we can’t hardly touch her feet. How can I trim a terrified little dog’s feet?

@@RetroNewWaveBoy Not much mess. Unless, you drop the flour. lol
Pinch flour between your fingers, press it on the bleeding nail. I have them sit until the flour and blood dry. the hard shell that is created falls off or they lick it off.
