Everyone's talking "this theme this" and "this theme that" but nobody knows about the theme that plays when you have yet to collect a revealed star. It's a wonderful, calming background music. Try it. Beat a grand star galaxy but don't just collect the star. Wait and listen to the background music and hear the twinkling of the star. It's beautiful. And I need you to spread this knowledge.

I know the sound you're talking about. Sometimes as a kid, after beating certain difficult stages, I would sit for a few minutes and listen to the music, taking pride in what I just accomplished.

So let me ask you, internet traveler. Do you envy the boy? Or perhaps, do you prefer the life you have? I assure you that both have its ups and downs, its triumphs and sorrows, its struggles and accomplishments. But maybe...just maybe...instead of longing for an escape, we take a moment to appreciate the miracles in our lives. Because like the boy in space, we witness them every day. It's just up to us to look for them.

I don't agree, yet I also 100% agree with this statement. On one hand, I would argue that we have gotten better and better games as time went on, quite a few easily trumping Super Mario Galaxy for me. On the other hand, If I were to choose which era of gaming I was happier playing... the 2000's wins by a landslide.

Now THIS is how you kick off the game proper after the intro at Peach’s Castle. It captures the beauty and mystery of both Rosalina and space itself, as well as the playfulness of the Lumas/Star Rabbits. This has always been Rosalina’s theme to me. Rosalina in the Observatory may have her name in the title, but that’s more the theme of the Comet Observatory itself.
It gives the feeling that you (the player) have to come into action, because there are things to be done.
I like that a big part of Rosalina's character, is her devotion to family and that she seems to become more open and happier with each new Mario game she in.

This game gives me such a weird feeling, I can't really say what it is. The music, the atmosphere, a lonely but beautiful world and Mario just going through it all. It captures this kind of space fantasy well to me. Mario galaxy has been the best game I ever played in my childhood.
No other game will ever capture the same atmosphere Galaxy 1 did
Its some sort of ethereal nostalgia, as if you were transported into the dreams and fantasies you had as a kid. This game mixes elements of your everyday life with a fantasy setting, making you feel nostalgic about those elements in a way very hard to describe. That´s why the worlds in the observatory are named after rooms of a house, and why that first little planet feels so close to you.
For me, in addition to what you guys said, this game makes me think of loneliness...like, you're out there in the vast open space, and you're so unbelievably tiny compared to space...it's almost claustrophobic, in a weird way

This game... I'll never understand what it is about this one game compared to everything else from my childhood, but there will always be something about Super Mario Galaxy that makes me feel happy, yet sad at the same time. Even after all these years, and all the gaming masterpieces I've observed, nothing has ever made me feel the same way I do when playing this.

This theme is utterly perfect. It cements galaxy as one of those games that you remember forever and never forget. It shows that the universe is massive and that we should appreciate the little places we have.

The chord progression in this song is mainly the driving factor for why it sounds so melancholy. It sounds so great to listen to. I wish they would still make games with this much heart and soul.

I was born on April 2007 and I’ve literally grown up with it. My earliest time playing it was 2011 with my grandad, and yet I still replay it every year as a reminder to simpler times. I miss him 😕

Ahhhh I miss being a child, and feeling a bit scared of the grandness of space this game had. It was weird, I felt like that simple skybox was an actual infinite space that Mario somehow would be able to explore. And it felt so creepy, I was always afraid of Mario falling off and dying in the emptiness of space lol. But still, those small planets always felt so safe... I can't really tell if what makes this game so great is the game itself, or the fact I played it with my brother as a really young child, and so I enjoyed it in a way I can barely describe.
I remember one night at a sleepover I stayed up all night playing galaxy... I never got too far but as I replay it now, years later, I'm feeling something new. Something different. The nostalgia hits like a truck and I'm just crying and crying, first from the storytime and its music, then here...

Hearing this just makes me remember the only responsibilities I had were going to school and doing simple Kindegarten/1st grade homework. I'm so thankful I grew up with the wii, it will forever be my most favorite and nostalgia console.
I remember when this game came out, about 5 years laterI was still very young. A toddler/baby. I sorry if to too young to be here, even. I remember a bit of it. It was from my cousin,-not mine! I begged my parents to get me a wii or the game, but they never did. Because i used to be pretty clumsy with Disks. And I accidentally broke one, hehe. Yet, I always loved to watch the gameplay even if I wasn't able to play it myself One time I did got to play it on a small file, and I only got to this small part, where the ost "to the gateway" played. I dont know what it even did, but it simply touched a corner of my would that nothing else has ever been able to. Now, my cousins live away from me. I still miss them, yet, I know that we still care for each other, no matter what. No matter even if we sometimes separated from eatch other temporarily. I used to go to his house every vacation, I absolutely loved it. Now it's been 2-3(?) years since I have been to his house.
I miss him.
Yet, I promise to myself that I will go there again.

I really wish I had learned English earlier in life, I bet if I could have understood the dialogue, I wouldn’t have gotten stuck on this game, but still, after so many years… hearing this specific song just floods my brain with that bittersweet feeling of being happy it happened but also wanting to go back.

Is it just me or at 1:05 this part of the music never existed until 3d all stars came out? I used to play Mario galaxy all the time on the Wii and never remembered that part being in there and then when I got 3d all stars while playing the tutorial I was listening then I thought oh wow they must have added music to the soundtrack but when I went back on galaxy on the Wii I played it again and then heard the part 1:05 while I never used to hear it
This track gives me nostalgia of those good times... (about other things because i recently started playing SMG) I remember those times where my only problem was school, not other traumatized mental problem i have gotten due to many things of my social life... I heard this track somewhere else outta' SMG, truly heartbreaking, because even though i didnt enjoy SMG at those times (mostly SSBB, MP9 or MKW), it touched me hard the first time I heard this, mostly because it was my first Wii Mario game, so I get both nostalgias said on this comment

Fallen Down - Toby Fox is musically similar, although it doesn't capture the same ethereal feel
Stargazer - Ridiculon is surprisingly similar actually, and it captures a similar mood
Into the Light - Nightmargin I think captures a similar feel, specifically the in-game version (which is lower pitched)
Resonant Chamber - Wayne Lytle the opening has a very similar musical vibe, and while the rest doesn't, it does return to and develop the opening melody a couple times throughout the song
Quiet Water - Toby Fox is short, but has an eerily similar melody with a relaxing feel.
Just a few I found shuffling through my No Thoughts, Head Empty playlist. I hope a few of these might help itch this scratch for some :D
