Very lovely riding, my friend. I'm so, so happy to see a young role model who not only has correct horsemanship, compassion in your partnership, but also wearing a helmet! Awesome! :) Your explanations are nice and articulate for beginners too. I'm glad you're sharing your skills in a correct, not rushed step by step way.
I own speedy sporting and jumping horses and always had trouble slowing them down. After finding your channel I taught both my horses to ride tackles and not only has our trust improved but they have been more responsive in the saddle. Thanks a lot:)
wow!! its amazing to see a young equestrian around my age with such respect and dedication to horses, i found this video very very helpful because i lease a gelding who i just recently started liberty trainig with and his owner (my trainer) never did any liberty with him so its been quite difficult as he has no experience. i would love to start riding tackless and i’ve been looking for videos to hep me start and this is, by far, the best video yet!! you make sure to explain every step throughly and slowly. i’ve watched many other videos but trust your the most because you trained your own horse (rather than someone doing it for you) and he is quite spectacular. i also find it amazing truly love what you do. keep up the good work, you inspire me everyday ❤️
wow you are an amazing rider!! I do not have my own horse because I am only 14 but I know now the importance of using your seat more in stead of pulling gently on the reins. Also using my legs even more to steer! Thanks so much and both the horses you showed were beautiful.
I said to my friend yesterday that Im gonna teach the horse I take care of to ride bridleless! and then you made this video! thank you for posting it, it helped alot 💖 p.s. you are a really good rider!
Congratulations for your great work! Well done and well explained, love when I find people that actually care about horses' comfort and teach this kind of things by the correct way :).
I found this video so helpful! I am teaching my horse, Scout, to ride tackless and he's doing great with what you put in this video... I noticed that someone asked what to do if you don't have a neck rope. I use bailing twine... I just knot it at the ends. Thanks for the video!!
Wow! You have such a good bond with all your horses! I am getting my first horse soon after riding for 5 years! I have only seen a few of your videos but subscribed so i can learn a lot more :)
This video is very clearly and i wanted to teach my pony to ride with a neckrope but i didn't knew how but now i know. Sorry for bad english. And i really love your channel!! (
This is so helpful! Thanks! I am trying to advance my bareback skills, and my mom freaked cuz I fell off after cantering bareback no hands. It was once I had started to trot, and I had tried to dismount and failed. Oops. Well, now she is freaking out about me doing bareback, and she just doesn't realize falling is a part of horseback. I hope to ride tackless on a 27 year old pony at some point, and this will help her to know that bareback and tackless do not mean unable to steer or stay on :P Thanks again!
Am I making things up, or can I hear your french accent here at the end? I love all of your videos btw, you've inspired me to do so much with my horses over the past year
im going to give your way of training ago :) Really love your goals and i think a horse listening will help heaps in a ring if for some reason the bridle brokes or your reins flip over. :P
Wonderful videos :) I wonder if you could briefly share how you use your legs, especially when turning. As a classical dressage rider I've been thought to use my inside leg to bend the horse, "catching" the hips with my outside leg, but the turn itself seems to come more from my hips and hands. Lately I've gotten more interested in ground work and have thought my horse to move away from pressure (so to turn right, should I actually push away with my left leg?). I'm in a crisis! ;)
Yes, in liberty riding it's simple pressure and release, so you teach your horse to move away from the pressure your putting on them. To turn right you would use your left leg as the cue. :)
How tall are you? I know Oreo is in the 13s and you seem to fit him really well so I'm wondering haha! I've been working with my thoroughbred cross mare at free riding like this, and so far we've been able to calmly w/t/c, turn, and back in a halter and lead. I think I'll start introducing the neck rope next. Thanks so much for this video, it'll be a huge help with my girl!
hey, I've seen your video's, and your ''how to teach'' video's and I really wanted to try it with my care pony. Only the 2 problems are that I don't go every day and that if I try she loses here attention and starts to eat. We don't have an arena or something where she can't eat or somthing
I’m hoping to start riding bridles with a horse, I don’t have a personal horse. If I want to possibly train with a horse do you think I should talk with my current barn owner or look for a place I can work with trainers in the future?
hi i see you using bit less bridels and id want to but have a hard time getting my horse to stop and slow down especially once he is warmed up it gets harder which scares me and was wondering what tips or if one of your videos talks and shows how to help with this, thank u.
My lease pony is an old riding school pony. He is really calm, and I mostly used voice and leg aids before working with the neckrope. I've worked with him in a neckrope twice now, and he is extremely good and he is so much happier and more willing to work when I barely touch the reins, but use the neckrope. He is ready to go tackless, but I am not sure if we are allowed to ride tackless at my barn. I have to ask for permission before I go completely tackless, which is unfortunate :/
Oh and of course I wont be going straight to tackless, I mean like in the end of a ride just trying a bit without a bridle if he's just as good as he has been
Do you have any recommendations for a horse that won’t steer on a loose rein? We wiggles his neck and turns. I can’t use my leg because it’s his head and neck moving
Are you aware of any tips/training lessons to keep the horse's tail pointed upwards; as is in Arabian breeds? I understand that Arabians are naturally known for pointing their tails upwards, but is this trainable for other breeds?
That is not trainable for other horses. Horses that can't lift their tail like an Arabian naturally will not be comfortable if it's forced, as the tail is an extension of the spine and will require them to twist their back to do this action. Arabians can do it because they have less vertebrae than other breeds and are more flexible.
This is incredible! My 16 year old Appy always turns in when we do the circle game, I keep searching ways to stop this but he just starts backing up. Does anyone have any advice??
I tried this with my mare today with the bridle on and rope round her neck to start, she was kinda getting it at some points and then most of the time just totally ignoring me, any tips on how to get her abit more responsive to the commands? X
Is this possible with a Thoroughbred? 😂 I have one and after I ride her for a few mins, she likes to start going faster as her blood flows 😂 u know anything I can do to not have that happen?
Wolf Perfect I️ have the same problem. 5yo Thoroughbred Gelding. Have you happened to fix the problem since the time you posted this comment? If you have, I am also struggling with this and it would be great for some tips. Thank you so much
when your horse starts doing this, try turning him/her in tight circles and when you feel as if you are ready and he/she is ready, release the pressure. Hope this help, I have a few other tips if you would like.
I have a 9yr old thoroughbred gelding, the circle method really works because horses can’t go fast on a tight circle and it’s also more tiring for them, so after awhile they learn to stay consistent because going fast only equals more work. I’ve ridden my guy bareback walk/trot/canter but not tackles yet.
i had the same thing with my thoroughbred, but she was very seat responsive, especially bareback. also the circle help a lot too :) now she’s more responsive under saddle so maybe it could help too?
The horse I've been teaching with a neck rope is to the point of needing no rein and is responsive off the neck rope. But as soon as I let go of the reins, she knows I don't have control of her face and she gets excited again. And ignores the neck rope, mostly just going in her own direction. She's getting to know leg pressure, but ignores it when she knows I don't have her head. Any suggestions?
a great way to gain balance is to take the irons and cross them over the saddle and then ride like that. When you feel comfortable, take the saddle off.
Hey I love riding bareback but when u canter he tucks his head between his legs and jumps forward trying to get me off have you got any ways to solve this as I really am struggling to stop it and I fell of over 5 times yesterday when he did I this thanks xx
Palomino Paint It is possible that he is stuck in his back and strugles with it more then with a saddle since you create (painful) presure points on the back of a horse. It is alo possible that his just can't stand those presure points or finds them painful in that case there is nothing you can do about it.
My horse nips at me every single time I try to ride her tackless. She's 13 and about a year ago she used to let me. Now she turns and tries to bite even when I just put my hands on her back to lean on her. She is perfectly fine with the saddle but she has a bit of a problem when it comes to tackless. Any suggestions?
Musically Mares does she have a bouncy trot? It may be hard to sit and you may accidentally bang on her back, or I know horses who just don't like bareback personally. Give her a bit of a feel around her back and see if she tries to bite you, then it's probably back pain if not she may just realise she doesn't like bareback.
My boy used to do that also, it did not bother me for a long time because I just hopped on quick and then he was fine but when I started having a friend over to ride who was not very experienced it scared her so then she would not get on and he just got worse with it. What I did was sit on the fence or gate or what ever you use to get on and have them just stand there for awhile, if they walk off then get down and have
I really enjoy your training advice I'm planning on trying this in the future with my horse:) I just made a youtube channel and it would be awesome if you looked at it. Planning on doing more videos soon.
You can also unclip your reins and clip the ends together into a neck loop (only works if it has snappies on the ends though, some English bridles don't have snappies)
I already ride bridless some times, but if I do it tackless my horse start to bucking (not always, just when I ask the gallop)because she feels more free... She is 7 yo, almost 8, how can I do to stop this? She undestands when I use the rope, if I pull it she goes more slow...
A lot of horses don't like straight bareback either though- bony hips on the spine doesn't feel amazing, and usually only well muscled horses being ridden by someone with a great seat will completely ignore the lack of the saddle. In a full out gallop, I'd imagine he's bucking in response to "ok hey, your boney butt didn't feel great right then", even more so if he does fine in other gaits that are easier to sit great in. (I hope this doesn't sound mean-a lot of great riders with athletic horses have horses that hate bareback)
I would really like to start trick training with my horse but she's really scared of whips , so is there any other way I could teach her tricks and she also gets really pushy when I have treats so does anyone know what I could do?
also, never allow your horse to control you. Train your horse who's boss by leading him and then turning around, stopping and making him stop. This will teach your boss you're the leader/alpha. If your horse does not stop when he's told, press on his chest untill he takes one step back, as soon as he does this release pressure and try those steps over again. Hope this help!
+Coryn Kirkham thanks I will try thoughts when I get out of plaster😊 I have tried working with her with whips but she gets scared and bolts or tries to attack the whip or lung whip, I think before we got her she might of got whipped a lot by whips or something like that cause she hates them.
I have a slight problem.. I've been trying to ride my horse with a long rein but he always enjoys to buck when we canter so it is a bit difficult to ride him in a canter on a long rein. Does anyone have any tips?
This takes a bit of the rider, but basicly "buck it out" keep calm and do not take the rains when he buck's. You can lightly but quick take his head up but with instant release and ceep cantering on long rains directly after. Just make him move forward instead, you "ride out the buck". Showing him it is more work when he bucks and more running, that it is easier to just canter. But as I said not easy for the rider ;)
Very lovely riding, my friend. I'm so, so happy to see a young role model who not only has correct horsemanship, compassion in your partnership, but also wearing a helmet! I ride my pony no tack all the time, it really helps my seat for when I do use a saddle

This was really helpful! I think when I eventually have my own horse I'll be able to benefit from this video
3:06 That horse is huge!! I love it
Thanks for these videos they are very explanatory
amazing video! I am definitely going to try this with my pony!
You have yourself a new subscriber!!!
thank you for another bridless Video :-) Best way to ride your horse. That is friendship

@Crafty Cousins are you referring to the clicker training...? Why in the world would you hate that
I think she means the clicks of the camera zooming in and out haha
Am I making things up, or can I hear your french accent here at the end? I love all of your videos btw, you've inspired me to do so much with my horses over the past year
+Annabelle Cane Haha nope you're not making it up!
Love your videos. Thank you for sharing!
That second larger horse you work with, what is that mesh on his nose? For flies?
Also for foxtails, not sure if she has that issue though
bailador is such a pretty gentle giant ♥ i'm sorry to hear he is sold. Hope he got a good home :D
im going to give your way of training ago :) Really love your goals and i think a horse listening will help heaps in a ring if for some reason the bridle brokes or your reins flip over. :P

Where did you get the neckrope from?! 😱😱
Great video
Thank you! Mika and I are now hacking without a bridle and just a neck strap! 👍
What camera do you use?
@oreoliberty what kind of whip do u use ?
I’m hoping to start riding bridles with a horse, I don’t have a personal horse. If I want to possibly train with a horse do you think I should talk with my current barn owner or look for a place I can work with trainers in the future?

Yeah I can’t get a horse after my lease horse got sold. But I have my 12.2 grey pony Joey. He’s my everything
how long did it take you to train you're horses to ride tackles???
How do you teach your hose to slow down with a neck rope?

I think that a lot of horses could learn this well but what about you because you hang on with your legs. I wish you mentioned how for us to do this

for a neck rope, can it be any rope ?
how come you sold Bailador?
With my horses he I do it in the round yard and he like jams I leg he goes so close to the fence what should I do
Thanks for this video:-)
how about balancing how to stay on bare back
a great way to gain balance is to take the irons and cross them over the saddle and then ride like that. When you feel comfortable, take the saddle off.
thanks
just start by no sturup work, then take the saddle of and start at a walk and progress once you feel confident and comfortable
thanks

I'm not sure how it could be. Do you have any idea why it would be?
Musically Mares does she have a bouncy trot? It may be hard to sit and you may accidentally bang on her back, or I know horses who just don't like bareback personally. Give her a bit of a feel around her back and see if she tries to bite you, then it's probably back pain if not she may just realise she doesn't like bareback.
She has a very smooth trot so I have no idea.
My boy used to do that also, it did not bother me for a long time because I just hopped on quick and then he was fine but when I started having a friend over to ride who was not very experienced it scared her so then she would not get on and he just got worse with it. I hate the clicks but other then that it's good
I can get my pony to turn and stuff like that I just need to know how to stop

my horse only has a bit and not a neck rope what do I do?
you can make one yourself
You can also unclip your reins and clip the ends together into a neck loop (only works if it has snappies on the ends though, some English bridles don't have snappies)

work on building trust first. you dont have to use treats or a whip, but you can just work on getting your horse used to the whip.
also, never allow your horse to control you.
+Passion4horses awe well just wor on trust and help her to understand you won't hurt her
