i lived in New Haven for two years and it may seem trashy to you from you're 30 min. drive thru town. But I can tell you there is more culture (and beauty if you know where to go) and charm to that very old city than most cities on the East Coast of a similar size. I loved it coming up from Manhattan. You must be Southern...lol Talk about trashy - the South has more abject poverty than I have ever seen in my lifetime up north - the South invented and branded trashy.
As someone who has lived here for far too many years than I care to admit to, you know what New Haven's biggest problem is? It's that a lot of people here have never been anywhere else. Why is that a problem? Because they've given up on themselves and the city, and have become complacent, telling you "It's the same wherever you go". When you believe that "this is just the way things are", then there's no reason to fix anything. I spent some time away, and I have to tell you it's NOT the same wherever you go. There are places that are similar size but don't have half the problems New Haven has. There's big city crime, big city traffic, big city poverty, big city homelessness, big city taxes, big city rents, big city unemployment, big trash, big city gentrification, and the most frustrating part is it's NOT a "big city". I've been to places like Longmont and Fort Collins, CO. and they don't have half the problem New Haven has. I don't understand it. The other problem is that there are things in New Haven that any other town would bend over backwards to keep, and not only do they fail but you have people that practically try to actively run them out of town. Minor league hockey and baseball, rock n' roll clubs. It's psychotic. During the 90's I also saw a lot of my friends move away. I always say that it was like the last scene in The Road Warrior when Max is standing in the wasteland alone, and he's watching everyone drive off without him. I'm not sure how much longer I can stand to live here. 15:59 That ballpark to the left is where the minor league baseball team the New Haven Ravens USED TO play. The former mayor John DeStefano who wasn't a big sports fan, practically rented them a moving van. The Ravens wanted a downtown ballpark, but the city refused to budge on building one. New Haven was having a lot of money problems in the 90's, but even when it did have the money, they refused to build it. Meanwhile in Portland, ME the Sea Dogs who came into the Eastern League at the same time, are wrapping up their 30th season. Did I mention I hate this town?
In the video, nothing shows that New Haven is "a Trashy Town". I guess this RUclipsr is a biased person. As you drive, what we see is yet another Small Town anywhere in the US. Yale University is world renowned. I am sure the Student Population is basically from "well to do" America. Students, parents & relatives will visit the city often, which should give a feel of a "good University Town" like Berkeley, CA or Boston where Harvard and MIT are there. Please do not propagate FALSE narrative of any town or city in the US or anywhere in the world! What do you gain, anyway? :+))))

Flip This House reality show took place there. I drove by there recently. Interesting how each state does their infastructure differently. CT had roads running parallel to highway with all their restaraunts and hotels which is unique.
The difference between medical marijuana and recreational, is the cost. Recreational is subject to state, local and excise tax. These taxes add about 20% extra cost.
I use to live there. Lots of panhandlers in the streets. Homeless and drug addicts hang out in downtown on the green by the bus stands. New Haven has a lot of crime but not as bad as Hartford and Bridgeport. Thank God, I moved out of there years ago.
Could have saved yourself time, and gas. Talk to a UNH ,Yaler , Magnus, Quinnipiac student who’s been there for a few years and would tell you how wonderful it is there.
Yea, my step daughter goes to UNH. We've visited there a few times and I like it, personally. I'm from a similar town in PA, though, so maybe it just reminds me of home, but my step daughter is from a town of 200 people in GA and she's loves it in New Haven as well.
I've been here more years than I care to remember and I absolutely DESPISE it. Trust me when I say this, they think it's "wonderful" now, but they will grow to hate it. It starts the first time they get their car broken into, or when something they like closes down.
Too much complaining from the (male) videographer! He was TOTALLY annoying! If you don’t appreciate New Haven, (without even getting out of the car) then just go back to wherever you came from! Uggh.
If that dude was wearing headphones and dancing like Micheal Jackson he been dancing like that for years. We used to have a guy that would run around town with a log on his shoulders
"I'm not gonna have a woman tell me what to do" you said it twice when she just told you to take a right turn - that says a lot about your character. You're calling New Haven a trashy town, but what you showed driving around was pretty nice, better than most cities. You didn't even look at the beautiful architecture of Yale. Sure, there are trashy parts of New Haven, like there are in every city, but you didn't show these in the vid, so why the hell are you calling it a "trashy" town? Makes me wonder who's being trashy here. Also, you didn't do your homework. Besides an offhand mention of Yale, You didn't say anything about what New Haven is noted for, so you probably don't know.
If you don't mind your car getting broken into or towed because the city uses impound fees and tickets to raise revenue. How's the gentrification working out for ya?
Just another gen z with no job, a camera and a You Tube account, and no interest in a real job. What makes him an expert on cities? I am from New Haven, been away for 45 years, it was a nice place to grow up. Small does not equal trashy. New Haven has the same problems as any other city. If this guy was smart he would know that.
Only good thing in New Haven is their new haven style pizza which is one of the best in the country. Better than NY pizza even. However, they are only well known for 3 things, Yale, pizza and crack. And it isn't Hartford which is as ghetto or worse than Camden, NJ. Did you and your wife visit the casinos nearby at all, they have Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun very close to that area, and those are amazing casinos tbh.
Jose I only visited Norwalk Connecticut I was there last February I drove on the same highway u drove on with the road rage driver when u were driving from Connecticut into NYC on the Merrit Parkway
No, it's not. The immediate downtown may look "well maintained", and that's because it's the part they want prospective students to see. But even that hangs by a thread. A hundred fentanyl overdoses on the green tell you otherwise.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS I actually use to live in Florida 🙄 It seem like you didn’t gone through the nicest areas in New Haven. Just seem unfair to bash the whole city like that. And btw My boyfriend is a native Floridian and New Haven is his favorite CT city.

You got off the wrong exit and drove in a circle missing the entirety of downtown and went to West Haven
