    It was so realistic that at first I didn't even notice the humans underneath. I thought it was all robotic. That is amazing... and those puppeteers are amazing. Kudos! The movements are so real. That took a lot of study, a lot of cooperation & teamwork, not to mention whatever geniuses made the actual puppet. I've never heard of warhorse but I'm definitely looking into it now & if the play ever comes to my area I'll be there.

    This is my big brother (the guy operating the head at the front)! He and the rest of the cast operating the horses have to study their movements in great detail and also coordinate with each other so that each movement comes together as one.
    Fun fact: he initially started as the rear legs when he first joined the show and worked his way up to operating the head as you see here!

      The *PLAY* is the thing. That's where you'll see the "puppets" 🤭
      (There's gotta be a better word for what this is!)
      The movie is about the actual horse, and they use a real horse to play the warhorse!
      Along the lines of Lion King, except LK has dozens of puppets and is absolutely masterful. So is WarHorse though.

    a month ago in Korea THEY LITERALLY KILLED A HORSE for a single drama scene. Staffs made horse to fall down while running by pulling a rope attached to the horse. The horse seriously got injured in its neck and died later.. It’s name was Kkami, a retired racehorse. Broadcasting station later apologized to ‘people who love animals’(like wtf) not to Kkami. and me here watching this video makes me about to cry.

    The movement is amazing 🤩. Even the ears move with the direction of the puppet horses movement, and the tail flips. It's fascinating to me. I was a horse trainer for many years and I'm enchanted by this puppetry. ❤️

      There's a documentary on the howto of this. Everything starts from the horses' breath, which keeps the puppeteers in sync. A real piece of theatre magic.

      But that's exactly what makes the movement so smooth and realistic, it's the puppeteers. When you're manipulating a puppet by hand instead of using controls, it feels so much more organic (and responsive, since there's no delay)

    Looking at the puppeteers inside, it seems like their operation is awkward and hesitant, but this is exactly how a horse moves in close quarters on artificial flooring vs natural ground in open space.
    Uncannily well done.

Not only can you speak with confidence on the matter of horse movements in tight spots as opposed to pasture like conditions, then seamlessly switch gears and shed light on the old tile/linoleum vs. sod and soil debate, you also managed to sneak in a bon-non for your fans, by way of a tidy, yet succinct critique of the puppeteers!     These rigs and performers are seriously talented. I took my son to a dinosaur show that used similar rigs, and they were just as talented and amazing to see.
    Props to these guys for putting on a great show of talent.

    Wow . The man controlling the head and sounds.. this was unbelievably amazing.. and the one controlling the tail.. beautiful life-like flickers.. and the one in the middle cute little leg kicks, nice and easy steps.
    Each movement was so majestic..
    But the puppeteer who was in control of the head.. brought tears to my eyes. It's truly amazing what you did.. very controlled and timely shakes. Amazing volume control too.

    The trainer is actually the one making them horse sounds! Cool! he's a great Master puppeteer. Credit to the head and butt of the horse of course.

    I would love to see this live, it looks amazing, the creativety that went into the production is on another level and from the clips I've seen I literally forgot that this wasn't a real horse also amazing actors, performers, directors, costumes, props, lighting everything that goes into making such an iconic production 👏🙌

      @Cierra Franklynn I realise that but I'm talking about the anamatronic ones, I've seen clips of them on stage and in theater and you develope real emotions for this creature as if it has soul and heartbeat. I forgot to mention the coordination between the guys behind it puppeteers I guess but wow what a job 👏👏👏. I guessed that they swapped out for real horses for certain sceans for obvious reason due to safety and cinematic reasons but thank you anyway for your confirmation.

    That is AMAZING! It looks real even though you can see that it's not real. It looks like it takes a lot of strength for the guys underneath. I can't imagine what it takes to figure out how to coordinate all those movements. Wow!

      When they do the front leg thing , yes.
