- Part 3 of the Absolute Beginners Guide to Rimworld. I have tweaked the video encoding, so hopefully this is clearer!
The guide will show how to get a simple colony off the ground and make it stable/self sufficient. In the fourth and last episode, we will open up an 'Ancient Danger' area to give you some idea of what you could unleash upon yourself.
Watch part 1 here: • The Absolute Beginners...
Watch part 2 here: • The Absolute Beginners...
Watch part 4 here: • The Absolute Beginners...
If you would like to see a newer, slightly more in-depth tutorial, please see my ten part series that covers a lot more than this series, and is based on 1.2: • Rimworld Tutorial Colony

You have the best rimworld guides i have found, thank you!
Thanks, very kind!
I went into this series thinking: "I'm just gonna skip around in the video and see what the game's about" but I instead ended up watching these videos with all my attention, non-stop for the last 1-2 hours. Seems like an awesome game. Currently sitting on the steam store page for it contemplating if it's worth it, I strongly believe it is. Great series! Love it! 1+ sub
Glad you enjoyed it, why not watch my latest series, The Beach
As for if to get it- just do it. Best money you'll have spent, I've been playing since 2014!
as of 2020 this series is still very useful. I am just starting to play and this is awesome tbh. Thank you for making these!
Thankyou, glad you found it useful. Although much has been added to the game since, the basics are largely the same.
Greetings from 2022. Still the best noob guide I have found thus far. Thank you!
Thank you!♥️
@@BugPowderDust Sounds like a perfect opportunity to make a new version. 😁

This series is really helping me understand. Thanks for taking the time to do it. Rimworld is really overwhelming when you start playing it and the in game tutorial doesn't teach you half this stuff.
Hi Nick, thanks for the feedback, glad you're finding them useful :)
I have 400 hours logged in Rimworld, I'm just here cause man this dude has awesome narration. These videos are AWESOME to watch
You're very kind, thanks!
Brilliant series. I came back to this game inspired by the isolation of Covid-19. The mellow tones of the narration have kept me watching, even though I know most of it. Sublime.
Thanks Brian, appreciate it :)
Used to think these long tutorials w multiple episodes weren’t worth the time, but honestly you’ve done better than any 10 min video could’ve done cheers broski.🤘🤘
Cheers. I genuinely don't think you can help any beginner to RW with a 10 min video very much. Glad you enjoyed it.
I love this series so much, bought the game today and I am now trying my luck. Thank you for being here and showing us your tips and tricks
Glad you found it useful, have fun! Remember, it's not about winning, losing is very much part of the game, as are memorable base wipes
One trick I've found regarding stockpiles:
When you click on a stock pile, you can set its "priority". I put the starting stockpile on "low" so when I make proper storages (fridge, infirmity, the all-important beer fridge) I don't have to un-allow from the outside stockpile. As I make more "normal" priority store rooms, the pawns move things from the outside to the cozy inside.
Good tip, thanks :)
18:30 : From what I've read, if one was to reduce resistance it would get the prisoner to a state where they could easily be recruited but not right away. So, if you wanted to try to keep them for a longer period of time for slaving or something, if might not be a bad idea. I also read, from someone, that they use it for withdrawals from drugs, easier to manage a prisoner than a civi, or so they say; haven't gotten that far yet myself.
Thank you for the videos, I've found them a real treat and great learning experience. Through my first few days of playing I've learned a fair amount on my own and from reading, but the few things that I have missed you've shown me through here. Thanks!
Hey, glad you found them useful, and you're right about the resistance. It's also good for training that skill too.
With all the work and knowledge you put into this I can't believe people actually took time out of their day to hit the dislike button. I can't fathom why.
Pfft, water off a duck's back. Who knows why people hit 'dislike', and honestly, I'm not slightly bothered. If this series helps even one person, I'm happy
Thanks from me too! Never really got into the game until I stumbled over your tutorials.
Glad I could help :)
Just started playing Rimworld (finally) and I am really enjoying your beginners guide! Thank You!
Glad you like them! I have created a follow up set- a bit newer, goes a bit deeper and covers the Royalty DLC also: ruclips.net/p/PLjtNsCg0XFV3CkPSN9_lZ2G41DUZVeQy0
This game seemed really fun so I got it but the in game tutorial glossed over a lot of things and the abundant amount of choices I could make simply overwhelmed me.
If it wasn't for this guide I think I would've given up on the game, this was so so so so so helpful.
Hey Stu, glad this helped you!
Switching lamps/turrets/stoves on and off requires a pawn to go there and flick the switch. its much simpler to build a lone, unconnected power conduit into the wall, and then use the "reconnect" button. this makes the device switch Grids. with this you can activate or deactivate things remotely yourself.
I learned so much from this series, also i really enjoyed watching boy the monkey.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks a lot bro for these guides. I was really overwhelmed when I bought this game yesterday but these videos have taught me a lot :D
Very happy they helped you :)
I watched all three. A lot was review, but learning how to queue priorities is a game changer. Thank you so much for this video!
Thankyou :) there's a fourth one too ;-)
@@BugPowderDust oh snap! it didnt come up on the auto play! I'm excited!
Really awesome series. It has been incredibly helpful. You explain things really well! Thank you!
Thankyou Jenny, happy you found it useful :)
So glad I didn't get far before watching your videos! Thank you, again!
Welcome! Hope your colony is going well
don't forget to put in tool cabinets in near your crafting benches, that will increase crafting by 6% and you can stack up to two and this will apply to research as well ... 12% increase speed on researching is very nice.
who could of known
Tool cabinet DOES NOT apply to research. Multiple threads confirm this. Wiki confirms it. Don't confuse people if it happens that you have some mod that allows that, which i'd doubt.
Because the happier a prisoner is, the more likely he is to join you. Bravo!
That poor monkey has been sleeping outside for 3 episodes, lmao!

Again another great video and some very insightful lessons to be learned in it for beginners like myself. Really gave me the push I needed & itching to play it again now I have learned a decent amount more.
Andy Mighalls Thanks again Andy, hope your new play through is a success!
Me too, looking forward to getting stuck in. Hope you decide to create some more Prison Architect & Rimworld content.
BPD - I'll miss watching once these are complete - but hope that you will create more videos to enjoy sometime soon!
Thanks Smack, been nice talking to you again. The fourth will be the last one I think, these could go on forever and turn into a Let’s Play, which isn’t what was advertised.
@XLNCplays ;-)
This is so helpful ! Thank you for those advices, I have just started the game and what I have saw in your video is really golden

This is a terrific tutorial! Thanks, mate.
Thanks :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been trying to figure this game out on my own (after the tutorial mode) and have just been completely failing. This helped me a lot!
You're very welcome!
Your voice is extremely pleasant to listen to:-)

1. You can run power lines through Rock, you just need to smooth it out first
2. Smoothen marble stone floor has higher beauty than wood floors.
3(?) only wardens can move prisoners around.
Thanks Clyde, superb tips! DIdn't realise you can run power lines through smoothed rock! Dayum. Smoothed floors do take ages so I'm not surprised they have a higher beauty
@@BugPowderDust I think the time to smooth them balances out the fact that they dont use resources and a pawn can never botch smoothing surfaces. With a high enough construction skill, smoothing a large room is faster than a pawn with the same skill having to run back and forth delivering resources.
@@Zlyde007 that is a good point. And a good way to buff a low construction skill too. Interesting... thanks again
I’m thinking about buying this game but I had no clue how to play this really helps thank you
You're welcome. Even if you are slightly interested, just buy it. It's never on sale, and IMHO, doesn't need to be. You'll get limitless replay value from it. I bought it in 2014, and am still hooked.
This is an excellent guide so far.
love this series as im learning so I can play with my friends using the multiplayer mod thanks mate

You're very welcome- remember, the Wiki is packed with loads of helpful articles. Good luck!

When resistance drops to zero its a garuntee that you will recruit them no matter the difficulty. Normally i dont deal with high resistance and high difficulty and i just harvest them for organs and chop them up and turn them into kibble.

Glad you're enjoying!
Still great 2 years later. Did you change your mic before this ep? You sound different...
Thankyou :) Yes, I had a different mic back then, hopefully my mic now is much better!!
If you're placing the horseshoe inside, you need 5 or 6 tiles for the colonists to be able to play.
Really helped alot. surprised you only have 2.6k subs lol.
Not enough regular content these days. I'm surprised I STILL have 2.6k subs ;-D
Really great video! But I have one question: You said that infections should be treated with the best medicine and the best doctors available. Does this mean that you would have treated this prisoner with the good medicine or would you still have given him the herbal one?
Sort of depends. If I want the pawn for recruiting, and I have medicine to spare, then I'll use the best stuff. Otherwise herbal is pretty good. Just doesn't seem to grow in the wild in this biome
@@BugPowderDust Ok! Thank you very much!
Thank you! Like number 500!
500th like- best like
Why everything has its own room, I mean like butchering and stove for example. Is it because having it all in one room will compound all of the undesirable points ?
Butchering and cooking must always be in two separate rooms. Cooking is very sensitive to a dirty room (you get food poisoning), and butchering causes a lot of dirt (blood).
As for bedrooms, you can put them in a barracks- as long as it's beautiful enough, this works better than a separate bedroom each
@@BugPowderDust ah i see, thx for the tips.
Nice video but the volume is relatively low. It will be better if you change your settings.
Thanks, settings have been changed subsequently :)
Don't know if someone pointed out yet - but in case of infection, if infection is faster than immunity gain, as a last resort you can amputate the infected part. As long as it's not a torso like in this case =) But if the doctor doing the amputation is bad - instead of amputating infected finger you may lose whole arm on critical failure (true story). That's also not a tragedy if you're at least in midgame, just buy a bionic limb and replace the natural one, bionics are better anyway.
Thankyou Mage, this isn't widely known so very useful to have that here.
To clarify for anyone who doesn't know, Infections are generally 'race' conditions between the infection and immunity. Whichever gets to 100% first will 'win'.
They should make a link in the menu of rimworld to your vids for new players to see!
Thanks, that's high praise!
I bursted with laughter just aligned with one on 24:00
I am about to refund the game because I just don't know what I have to do after the tutorial, but thank to your video, I'm going to play it
I'm glad, this game is really brilliant! Hang in there :) don't view a colony loss as a tragedy, think of it as a story you'll very likely remember!
If the prisoners become a burden can you lock them in and set fire to their room? That would be fun.
Why are you building your base near unresearched building?
I'm guessing you mean the 'Ancient Terror'? I did that to demonstrate in the next episode, what may be in there (as this is, primarily, a tutorial). Also, once you clear it out, you have a nice, paved room you can use.
@@BugPowderDust okey thanks for answer.
2022 still helpful
Thankyou!
Why oh why do you have to put every single bed pointing to the wall!?
There is a good reason but now I find it amusing that it messes with people's OCD 😉
@@BugPowderDust you diabolical lol
For a game that lets you make sophisticated priority algorithms I am surprised it doesn't allow you to set harvest 100% grown wild plants automatically.
Well...there's a reason for that- unless they are in a grow zone, they don't get harvested. Otherwise, your pawns will spend their time running around the map, harvesting everything they can, whether they like it or not.
You can get them to auto-harvest by putting down a grow-zone under the thing you want auto-harvested, and set it to 'do not allow sowing'. Doesn't matter what the plant type is, they will now auto-harvest the 'thing'

man... ok ive gone through 3 games now with your tutorials and it seems no matter what i do, my people all get super sick randomly and die. just played a game for hours i swore i was gonna make it and it all went to shit immediately. :'(
What biome are you playing on? If Jungle or Swamp, illnesses are a bitch. I recommend Temperate Forest on an easy setting and make sure if you get plague or flu, you treat it immediately with the best medicine you have.

Shame, but I understand. Hope you revisit in the future ☺️
You should't have sped it up it makes it very heard to follow anything. also your mouse speed is to high for me to follow it. you should have talked a little slower and i think you treated this like someone has seen videos on rimworld already when you should have made it like the target audience has never seen this game before. just some things you should work on for future "how too's"
