Brooklyn MC, Masta Killa discusses meeting GZA back in the early 90s and how the friendship inspired him to become a rapper and eventually a member of the Wu-Tang Clan. He says at first he was just fan of hip-hop and would hang around GZA as he pursued his music. That all changed the moment, he heard a rough version of "Protect Ya Neck" and was wowed by it even though it only had 4 of the members on it at that time.
After that, he tried his hand at writing raps, and the first bars he ever wrote in his life became "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'" on 36 Chambers. Listen to Masta Kills talk the early beginnings and how it was a financial struggle recording music at first.

I got in trouble in junior high school for drawing a Wu Tang symbol on a test paper. They said it was a gang symbol. That's the closest I felt to being a part of Wu Tang Clan... getting detention for the Wu.
don skeezy I lived out in Germany for a year when I was a kid. At the time Wu-Tang & No-Limit were topping the muthafucking charts. I bullshit you not, I walked into that school on my first day with a No-Limit tank shirt on and was instantly sent to the principles office and expelled from the school. Apparently, them fucking military brats had turned Wu-Tang & No-Limit into a gang and they were rivals. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

This guy is extremely cool, I had the pleasure of meeting him at a small concert he and Inspectah Deck did. They both chatted and took pictures with me, my friend and cousin. MK shook each of our hands and thanked us for our support.

Innovation goes a long way. Masta Killa's flow was inspired by hanging around GZA and being influenced by the atmosphere at RZA's house and this is what that created. When you're around dope MC's and you wanna fit in, you're not gonna suck. It inspired him to be as dope as possible and probably innovated him to explore something he didn't even know he was capable of. In that environment, discipline and dedication is what it takes..... and trying to compete with other great talent, makes even better talent. That's why hip-hop is trash today....it's basically "I gotta out mumble them to stand out on this track to get a career" or "I better do something ignorant for attention to build instagram followers so I can start a talentless career in something else."

To hear such a Calm but, Powerful voice with hardly NO curses & monotone (never changing the pitch of his voice or switching cadence) in *MK* to.... hearing such a AMPED, high pitched rapper that not only curse but, uses such colorful words & changes the velocity of his voice from every other word with *GFK.* That shows such *"CONTRAST"* & when 9-10 people show ALOT of Contrast & Difference but, the track is tightly produced & it captures ONE cohesive-collective direction & intent! That's just ONE of the MANY dynamic's that make Wu-tang soo *Legend!*

People forget him and Killah Priest was competiting for that song.. Killah Priest fell asleep and masta killa finished his verse so that's how he got on according to Killah Priest.. KP one of the best out the wu universe
