  • The case McGuire vs. the State of Ames was argued on November 19, 1981 at the Ames Moot Court Competition. The presiding judges were Hon. Henry J. Friendly '27, U.S. Court of Appeals for The Second Circuit; Hon. Patricia Wald, U.S. Court of Appeals for The District of Columbia Circuit; and Hon. Nathaniel Jones, U.S. Court of Appeals for The Sixth Circuit.
The Ames Competition, held in the historic Ames Courtroom of Harvard Law School, is one of the most prestigious competitions for appellate brief writing and advocacy in the country. The students participating in the Final Round started the competition in fall of their 2L year. Two teams progressed to the Final Round through their strong research abilities and excellent written and oral advocacy.

It would be great to have a, “where are they now?” video of these young advocates.

The first guy who argue is, by far, the worst contestant I have seen on these moot court competitions. I thought I won't ever see one of these on Harvard. He is reading the papers, not a way to argue your case properly.

I´m embarrassed by the young Patrick Deval, future governor of Massachusetts. Horrible presentation.
