- We've run out of superlatives to describe Lasha Talakhadze. The Georgian giant retained his world title in Ashgabat, clearing out the competition by an enormous 24kg.

A 566 c&j is a world record !!! Pisarenko did 578 more than 30 years ago ! And he only weighed about 275 !
He was also banned for life for steroids and was really the godfather of massive steroid use in Olympic lifting. None of his records should count as having been done and he was a terrible representation of athletics. The guy probably walked around with needles in his pockets.

No disrespect to the current crop of superheavyweights but 566 is not a true world record. Pisarenko did 584 way back in 1984 and he looked every bit as strong and muscular. Not just like another big(fat) guy. Im sure Pisarenko feels disrespected as his marks were just conveniently erased from the record books just to stroke todays underperforning lifters. Sorry but why did weightlifting do this garbage ???

Pisarenko did 584 in the 80s at around 270 lb bodyweight. I know this as a fact. I do not care what wiki or google says. I am 53 years old and back thru the 60s 70s and 80s my father subscribed to ironman magagazine and strength and health magazine. They covered the world weightlifting scene like nobodys buisness !!
Yes but he was also responsible for the use of steroids, and was banned from the Soviet weightlifting federation mate, a lifetime ban. Not surprised he was erased.
