The chance of making fatal errors when climbing is pretty much the same as to fall when climbing a ladder, probably less because the ladder actually can tip over. As you can see in the video, you maintain three points of contact when climbing with your legs and arms, and even so the point of contact is on the inside of the pallets where it's literally impossible that anything comes loose. This is because of the enormous weight on the pallets which keeps everything in place. Every pallet is evaluated before being sent to the top. We've built tall bonfires like this since 1964, so obviously there has been developed a lot of techniques for every task we have to do. :)
Whats funny to me is the fact that at 10:03 you can see pallet with ČD on it. That stands for České dráhy.....state raildroad company. Its a small world we live in.
The way the build it is not acceptable in my opinion, pallets aren't flat and they use nails or screws and boards to secure the pallets, if the people in Northern Ireland done this on their bonfires they would easily beat the "record" but fair play to them its cool to see :)
@@mrnugget1690 “not acceptable in my opinion-.. they use nails or screws” How else would they prevent it from falling over? If it fell while someone was climbing it to add more or to light it, there would be a huge problem

Well actually burning wood is completely different to fossil fuels in terms of pollution. Check out Northern Ireland bonfires, we put tyres and waste in them lol :)
Our bonfire is built for height, not volume. In 2016 the bonfire measured 47.396m high and broke the world record. The volume was nowhere close to Scheveningen with about 2,500m3, but that's because of the way we use the material to sustain the height.

The title is correct. This is from the worlds largest ANNUAL bonfire celebration, but the tallest bonfire ever built was built this year.

It would not be allowed anywhere in the USA either. Nor would the workers be allowed to climb it.

why are you using so much expensive oxygen?

I'm pretty sure they are not loosely stacked, prob nailed together.

@@Slinning1 as a carpenter I found this very interesting!! That is a highly engineered structure! Great work!!!

Looks so cool. Really hope to make it to Norway some day to see this
Tik Tok braught me here
Fantastic work ... Just remember; fire is a good servant but a bad master.
That free solo climb was no joke. Pallets are used in compression, the fasters aren't known for their pull strength.

That second song... I need it
would love a copy of that second song!
My legs felt wobbly watching you climb
What a waste of timber, still really cool though
They should shoot a flaming arrow up there. Or make use of the drone or some remote control mechanism that sets it off.

How are they able to climb with that massive balls?

Jenga anyone?
Lol. I had that thought too.
Good bonfire but I think there are similar if not bigger ones in N. Ireland on the 11th July
Might I recommend a ceremonial fiery arrow next?
Theres one being built in northern Ireland for the 12th of july that may be bigger when Finished, check out craigyhill bonfire Facebook

Why not build it hollow to create a chimney effect with a strong draft? Norwegians are astute fire smiths!
It would never be able to stand if it was hollow. This year's bonfire was around 300 tons. The one in the video is probably around 150.
