- What more do you want to build than the brand new Colnago Master in Saronni red design and Campagnolo Super Record 12s in mechanics and classic brakes?! This dream has now come true for me! I cuddled with it all day and eventually I build this red rocket. Come enjoy it with me ...it was so worth it!
Co chceš stavět lepšího než úplně nové Colnago Master v Saronni red designu a k tomu Campagnolo Super Record 12s v mechanice a klasických brzdách?!
We all like what we like (and views differ about invariably some details) but what is beyond all doubt is it's expertly built,,,,,,,,,,, as always (and if you work on these bikes you'll know this). So another outstanding quality job my friend and congratulations to the lucky owner who has a practical and classy combination of classic frame and modern utility, especially if you live in a hilly area. Chapeau to you both 👍
Thank you very much my friend, the bike is beautiful without any doubt and the owner was very happy with it. He liked how quietly the steel runs and how the Campa clicks beautifully...
@@OnRoadVintageBikes Did something similar on an Extreme -C but used 12 speed chorus in black, and as you observe in the replies that's the compromise between modern functionality and retro looks.
Wouldn't it be great if Campagnolo did a12 speed record groupset in chrome ?. Call it what they like .......an anniversary edition or whatever..... confident it would become a classic group set with enough takers to justify it...... rim brake (obviously). .........come on Campagnolo back yourselves as the only brand for high end mechanical group sets in silver and black, even if confined to SR or Record. Interested in your take ?
Thank you for your huge support!
Yeaaaah Man! A Colnago Master in red with Campy.... doesn't get any better. For all you old timers like me, be sure to snag a mechanical group from Campy soon, they likely plan to phase it out for SR and Record mechanical after this...
I agree with you...nothing better for old timers like us. Don't worry, I bought a Campa SR for myself, because the production will definitely end. My new Ritchey steel frame arrived...just have to wait for my broken arm to heal... Thanks for the watching the video and support my friend.
In my opinion, the build you show on this video is the pinnacle of the neo-retro buids. Congrats for you and the owner. This is my dream build but, as I can´t afford it, I am riding on a Massi Mega Team (Columbus Brain) with Time Vectran carbon fiber fork, Fulcrum Racing Zero tubeless wheels and an an old version of the Shimano 105 groupset, 9 speed, 12-28t. 9,6 kg. Riding on a steel frame bike offers unique sensations.
Thank you very much, I really appreciate your support.
Thank you, I enjoyed building the bike very much. I think the owner too...
Oh yes. I love people who want this but even more who can do it... True beauty...
Děkuju!
Never a truer word spoken. Great observation 👍👍👍@jakubraimr
best of both worlds
I wouldn't say it better, thank you very much.
you have to understand that the concept is the right combination of two worlds that makes sense...I think it's envy talking I have the same bike only Bora Ultra 50 + Campagnolo Record 11speed wheels...it's an amazing bike
Díky za podporu Petře.
Beauty
Thank you.
lovely bike, but it's your cat who steals the show 🙂
This is the neighbor's cat who decided to live with me...he probably likes bikes?! Thank you for your huge support.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful build even with all those headset spacers.
Those spacers are worth trying out, because you can always shorten the fork, but not longer. Thank you for watching the video.
Such a perfect build. My goodness that has made me dust off my old “horizontal” frame for a rebuild. It ain’t no Colnago Master but it’s mine and I love it and you’ve made me ride it again. Thank you
Thanks for support. Be sure to build the bike on your steel frame! It will be comfortable and most importantly...loved!
Be sure to send me a photo of the finished bike to my email for checking!
Acciaio è per sempre. Columbus ... italian steel. The top .forever
Steel frames have a soul! Thank you for watching.
Thank you for your kind comment, I enjoyed building it.
Dream bike indeed.
Thank you very much!

Beautiful work!!
Thank you very much.
Gr8 Build...enjoy the ride
Thank you for your support friend.
STUNNING!!!!!
Thank you.
Super Super Nice Art. I've Master Olympic drive with only Record Titanium 9s. My dream build just Chorus 11s is ok for me.😊
Dream bike ❤perfekt
Thanks for the Video 😊
Thank you very much for your support.
Nice bike but I would have put a silver headset and not black, and maybe gumwall Veloflex tyres 👍
Thank you for watching the video.
Beautiful bulid!
Thank you very much!
Meravigliosa!
Beautiful build
Thank you very much!
Wonderful
Yes exactly! Let's thank Mr. Colnago And Mr. Campagnolo that we can experience it...and I thank you for your support.
Impresionante!!!
Thanks!

Love this built..
Thank you, I love these bikes too...

Thank you very much.
Bom dia! ficou linda linda meu camarada...
Obrigado pelo apoio meu amigo.
I did a similar build with my red 1989 Tesch S-22 and Campagnolo 11-speed Record group with a 12-speed SR brakeset. I wanted an all-black/carbon group and love 11-speed Campy. I even went with all-black cables. The only silver parts are some of the components in the brakes but that is minimal. My next build will be a late 80s Picchio Special that is getting painted a very similar red as Saronni red. It will have 12-speed SR controllers and front and rear derailleurs with the rest of the components being 11-speed SR. I have all of the 11-speed parts from a recent teardown of my Ritchey Carbon Breakaway and actually prefer the traditional 5-arm crankset over the new 4-arm SR.
The only thing that I haven't decided on is the wheelset. I have a set of all-black Fulcrum Racing Zero Nite C17s. What is that Fulcrum wheelset you used on your Colnago build?
Fulcrum Racing Speed I used for this build. Enjoy building your new bike and thanks for watching the video.
Ah, very nice. Thanks!@@OnRoadVintageBikes
Cannondale CAAD 8.Italia persempre!!!Grazie!:)))
stupenda !!!!!!😍👏👏👏
Thank you very much for your support.
I love the utility of the neo-retro builds, but I must agree that the all black components on the classic chromed steel frame is a bit aesthetically jarring. Perhaps Centaur 11s polished brake calipers, ergo levers and derailleurs would look more fitting and still get you under 8.5 kilos.
I have a neo-retro mid 80’s Bianchi Columbus SL build that has a Record 11s crankset w/Bora Ultra 50 wheels and I find that the weight savings on the rotating components is most important for performance. The brifters/brake calipers/derailleurs can have compromises for aesthetics.
Question on the fork: Is that an uncut threaded fork that you used as threadless, or does Colnago make an aftermarket 1” steel threadless fork? Columbus makes a 1” carbon fork that I used for my neo-retro Bianchi, why didn’t you go that route?
I was assembling a bike for a customer...that is, I assembled what he brought. I have no problem with black parts ... Dura Ace 1st gen was already black (1976). The fork was original 1" threadless. Thank you for watching the video carefully.
I agree with you on not buiding it with black parts.
nearly 20 years ago I had a Master XL in that same paint scheme. I used the chrome fork and built it up with all silver colored parts and white saddle/tape. . IMO it looked far better that way than with the black parts, but everyone has their own tastes, and these days nearly everything is black so it might be a tough to do that build again (?)
Components from 20 years ago have one more problem for me...as I get older, 39/25 is not enough for me for hills like it was back then. Otherwise, I love their beauty and I hope it can be seen in my other videos. Thank you for your support and tolerance.
Amazing bike. It's a pity for all that spacer, and with a white tape and saddle would have been perfect! also maybe some bolt could have been replace with some nice red Ti bolt.
Thank you for your support. The owner wanted to build the bike from these parts, although I probably wouldn't change anything. As far as I know, they haven't made the 3D printed seat in white yet. The white wrap is of course beautiful until the second ride :-) and the spacers? you'll understand that when you're 50+
@@OnRoadVintageBikes best part is that lovely cat 🙂
❤
Buetyfull
Thank you very much.
Hi, how did you make the 12 speed freehub fit on a wheel for 130(?)mm?
12speed Campa fits without modifications to 9/10/11speed hub. Thank you for watching.
First thing is cut the fork to measure, not one of the last things as the bike was almost complete. Ya never hammer a fork star in to place while bearings are installed. The fork should be cut separately from the frame prior to the rest of the installation of the components. However bike looks great 👍.
Thank you for the instructions and support. I'm always worried when cutting the fork that I'll cut it too much, so I'm waiting for a finished bike where I can try it out...
about to say that... but it's an Italian bike so hammer away!!! lol
9:12 campañolo cat 😂
Campagnolo SUPER RECORD cat! Thank you for watching.
😮😮😮😍😍😍😍😍😍
I wish you had cut the steerer tube a lot shorter, that stack of spacers is ugly. I love this gruppo
After trying it, it can be cut, it would not be possible to extend it anymore...Thank you for watching.
Are these the right brake pads?
No they aren't, when I filmed it I found the right one in the wheel bags. Thank you for watching the video.
Pekna potvora. Pro sebe na jezdeni?
Nene, pro mě je to malé. Mastra mám z 96 na Dura Ace 7700. Děkuji za sledování videa.
Enjoyed that but the music is depressing
Thank you for watching the video.
Great bike, how light is it?
That you didn't watch it to the end! So again! Thank you for your support. :-))
I would guess with a steel fork 18.5 to 19 lbs
I have a similar modern steel bike with a full carbon fork it's 17.01 lbs
you should press the chain pin, to fix it better, as prescribed by Campagnolo, not file it
the pin of the chain is well pressed, otherwise the chain would freeze, but after breaking off the guide pin there is a small point there and I file it, then I rivet it from the inside out so that the smooth side of the pin is towards the pinions so that it does not rub.
This bike is so beautiful, and very good conception the old and new together! But I think so,too much the extender on the fork shank! The handlebar is on too high!
This is to be tested, because it is always possible to cut it, but not to stretch it. After the owner tries it, we can cut...
Thak you very much for yyour support.
What is the chainline like?
I do not know. Thank you for watching the video.
Wow nice built! How about the total weight?
Thank you, if you add the weight of the pedals, you will know it. At the end of the video, the weight without the pedals can be seen.
@@OnRoadVintageBikes ups sorry my mistake, wow 8’ish kg
Four arm crankset doesn't mix well with this frame
It depends on taste, thank you for watching the video.

Imagine crashing during a ride. 😩
Why such a terrible idea? If I thought like that, I'd be sitting at home all my life?!
Kg?

Tomu se říká cyklistické porno :-D
Přesně tak! Děkuji za podporu.
Moc se mi ta vaše videa líbí - vydržel bych na to čumět hodiny, strašně to uklidňuje. A jinak - Steel is real, jak říkají kluci emerický ušatý. Ať se vám daří!
Děkuji , vážím si toho.
Really nice build! Nice video too. Only thing I would actually swap immediately is the black headset. To me that black bulge looks realy out of place on this bike. I also wounder if silver brakes might combine even nicer with the fork and offer a nice contrast with the black carbon wheels? It's a real shame Campa don't produce real high-end ones in silver. Cane Creek eeBrakes in silver would be worthy of the bike but are very pricy.
You always have to make a decision on what to tune to, here Colnago made it easy for us and the headset was included with the frame. The stem and handlebars are black, so are the headset...the eyes will get used to it...Thank you very much for the support.
That would just look wrong. a black PMP fitting would be the best choice.
And black Campagnolo record brakes a superb, compared too Cane creek. Plus they look a lot better....
The Torque Handle Nazis will scream about your build
I hope so...
Sweet bike, but all those washers on the headset results ugly
The owner can have it cut when he tries the pose. It can't be extended anymore...Thank you for your support.
jesteś pewien montażu mostka a-head na gwintowanym widelcu?

Gdzie jest wątek?
This Nice Frame with this ugly black components is Not pretty it is a pitty 👎🏻
Your life must be bleak...almost all modern components are black.
@@OnRoadVintageBikes I agree with the ugly black components sentiment. I have almost the exact same frame. Mine is a master from the late 80s or very early 90s. Mine predates internal routing but has it custom. It has the curved chromed fork before they went to the straight fork in the early 90s. In any case, I spent months shopping ebay for the grouppo. It's all polished Campy Record 10 speed. The only carbon on the bike is one of the links in the rear mech and the levers.
@@OpusXtr I love the Campy 10s, the only problem is starting to be the gears....I need lighter ones as I get older.
@OnRoadVintageBikes At 63 and living in New England I have the same issue, there is only one local ride I know of that is anything like "flat" and that one gets me close to 2000 feet if I ride from my door. The max 28T Record cogsets are more than I want to push on a 39T ring.
This yr I sourced a new Campy Racing Triple crank and front mech for my Colnago so I can actually ride it and not just look at it. The 30/28 is quite usable.
10/10 👏🤩
Thank you very much
