    I watched the scene this song was in.....and...it was horrific. This song convinced me that this movie was a true tragedy. I think what happened to Lucy Barker is one of the most depressing things about this movie.

    This is one of the more dreadfull songs of the movie. I mean poor thing was stalked, raped, mocked and laughed at, and thanks to the poison looney, and then kicked out because of lovett and forced to fend for her not so well self. Sweeneys loud 'NO' at the end was honestly hard to hear cause you can just hear the anger, hate and sadness in it as he believes his wife is dead until the very end.

    ya know, when u think about it, its all because of these 3 minutes that made todd what he is. and when mrs lovett tells him lucy died from poisoning herself. cause if mrs lovett told him the truth about lucy todd would still try to find her and get johanna back and wouldn’t be so blinded and obsessed with revenge cause he’d still be happy to see his family. and wouldn’t have started wanting to kill everyone. he’d still want revenge on turpin but he wouldn’t be so obsessed with it that it drove him to insanity.

    Honestly Mr.Parker/Todd could have returned earlier I think. It didn't sound at all like he was being watched after the accused crime that the judge got him exiled for. All he had to do was change his appearance, change his name and come back into the city. Yet I guess if that did happen, the judge would be suspicious over the "new" man in Lucy's life after Mr.Todd had explained to his wife that it is him, he just did a visual and name change to get back into the city to be with her. And judge might have remembered what Mr.Parker's voice sounded like, so he'd get startled if he over passed the disguised Mr.Parker when it hasn't been three years apart. In 3 years, I'm positive the judge forgotten what the man looked and sounded like, so it was easy for Mr.Todd to return.
    It's just sad it had to be a tragedy is all I'm saying. If Mr.Parker was being monitored by the judge's men while in exile, I guess it'd be harder to get a disguise and new name. But it doesn't sound like he was being watched after exile, so I think he could have easily changed his looks and name, and joined Lucy and his daughter again.

  • @EmilySpiritExT
    @EmilySpiritExT 3 года назад +2

    I think since poor Lucy was raped by the judge, she didn't wanna live with that. She didn't want to bear his child, yet she held off for a while to mother her own baby before taking her life. I don't think she could get an abortion in that period time or the judge would probably get involved again to prevent her from getting one. I think it's totally possible that Mrs.Lovett had befriended Lucy after her husband's exile, to fake comfort her and not stop the poor woman from taking poison that would kill her. Then Mrs.Lovett could have easily found Lucy's corpse and stolen it in the dead of night to her place. Unless Lucy had drank the poison at Mrs.Lovett's. That's possible too, Mrs.Lovett could have fed her it, putting it in a pie or drink that she served Lucy and there be no reason to move her to her place cause she's already there.
    But what I don't get is why Mrs.Lovett didn't get of Lucy's corpse after the poor thing died?
    She had plenty of time to get rid of it. Maybe she worked with the judge to secretly get rid of Lucy's case, like she would take Lucy's corpse away and the judge would adopt Lucy's daughter. Maybe a story was made up that Lucy abandoned her baby daughter so there was no search for Lucy to be taken. Other than for Mr.Todd to find Lucy's corpse in Mrs.Lovett's place as a reveal, is the only reason I see why Lucy's corpse wasn't destroyed soon after Mrs.Lovett took it. If only the crazy woman had burned Lucy's corpse within those 3 years of exile, then maybe possibly, she could have won Todd's heart and get married to him like she wanted. She messed up. If only she was smarter, she got rid of Lucy's corpse, then boom, she'd be alive and still working with Todd if not also married to him.
    Yet I do admit after Lucy's corpse was discovered, Todd dancing with Mrs.Lovett to get her into position to throw her into the burning oven was pretty epic move on his end. Pretty cool death he did and gotten rid of the evidence all at once. Much clever than Mrs.Lovett was.

      I think you missed a point, Lucy didn't die because of the poison she took, it only damaged her brain and turned her into a crazy lady, she was by the end killed by her own husband by mistake, rewatch the movie, she's the same woman who said "do I know you sir?" Before getting her throat cut by him... As a musician I have such mixed feelings about this show. The music and orchestrations are incredible! I enjoy this aspect of the show. But I find the lyrics, plot and subject matter quite ridiculous and boring. Yet the skill and artistry of the performers, musicians, the famous composer are absolutely the best in the world. Because of that, I feel, this musical gets a free pass.
