About The Alienist:
The Alienist is an upcoming American drama television series based on the novel of same name by Caleb Carr. The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896, when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped the city. Newly appointed top cop Teddy Roosevelt calls upon Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a criminal psychologist -- aka alienist -- and newspaper illustrator John Moore to conduct the investigation in secret. Joining them in the probe is Sara Howard, a headstrong secretary at Police Headquarters.

I hope there is a season 3, but sadly Netflix has a habit of having the best shows stall and actors drift away. The show Mindhunter comes to mind. If Netflix want subscribers to stick with them they need to stick to making the very popular shows

I've read this thrilling novel at least half a dozen times. I'm glad they're making it into a mini-series because the novel is so rich and the details won't be lost. I'm giving the book another read before the series airs.

luke is absolutely brilliant as john and he plays him so well. i freaking love this show.the first season had me on the edge of my seat and the second season had me hooked on every episode it was so freaking good
How fascinating!!!! I love behind-the-scenes look into projects like these. I also wish there were places like this set we could visit and immerse ourselves in the environment as well. Can't wait to watch the show!
Can anyone knowledgeable in modern development and architecture explain why these amazing art department folks don’t get involved in building real buildings in our cities instead of just the facades in movies? We need more of this built permanently.
Check out the new urbanists and prince Charles's foundation, they still build traditional neighborhoods and buildings. The rest I'm afraid are only interested in glass and steel skyscrapers.
usually a lot of architects are involved in building sets. Architecture is much more than just aesthetics, though. Transferring from set design to architecture is way harder than the other way around.
About modern architecture: don't listen to the retarded freemasonry comment. It's because architecture evolves just like anything else. Materials change, style of living changes, people change, aesthetic trends change... no one like to be stuck in the same spot for centuries. Apart from the art's modern theories and tenets, it's also that labor costs have increased drastically in the last century, so it's just not feasible to build the same kind of highly detailed and decorated buildings.
One word: permits.
i don't know much about arichitech but what i do know is they want to pay less so they hire cheap not so experienced workers but when the Industrial Revolution began the buildings started to look more ugly by the early 19th century alot of the buildings where just concrete tower blocks watch this "ruclips.net/video/GapUEKYLE1o/видео.html"

Just started watching this series on Netflix and I have to say the scenery is outstanding and totally believable. It's quite gruesome so thank goodness they had silicone prosthetic parts to rely on. Another amazing Netflix show bringing the past to life.

I Googled to find out about the locations, etc., which got me to this video.
It looks very authentic, and reminds me of when I was a child here in New York.
I can remember cobblestone streets as they were fast disappearing.
(I was born in 1950). There are still many structures left from the 1800's that match perfectly with your show.

When I worked on Eastenders my favourite place to take people was Ian’s fish and chip shop. They were always so disappointed the interior of the pub was on a soundstage and not inside the actual building.

I'm so excited for this show! I live right next to Broome St, which I think is the street supposed to be depicted in the opening shot. FYI Mr. Evans, Mott St. is NOT on the Lower East Side. It would have been German and Italian immigrants on the northern part of the street and Chinatown on the southern part.

It seems that a lot of people did not care for the 2nd season, but I thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the character development of Sara, and the dynamic between her and John as well. Thoughts?
@@tarnishedsoul2749 I miss the last 3 episodes of season 2 so I really Hope John will break up with Violet. She Is not for him. Sara Is such a powerful young woman. She looks forward. Not materialistic. Smart, beautiful. She's the One for John. I Just feel Sorry for Lazslo. He didn't show so much in this second series. Whatcha think?
@@monikwinchester Yeah, Laszlo definitely took a back seat this season, but it also allowed the audience to see a softer side of him, and with the focus mostly on Sara, she really got to shine this time. I do hope Laszlo will be more integral to the story again if we get a season 3! Fingers crossed!!!
As for John and Sara, I don't want to give any spoilers since you missed the last few episodes, but it REALLY seems for a moment that John will leave Violet for Sara, but then Violet uses one more ploy against him to keep her hooks in him. I personally feel this last attempt from Violet is steeped in lies, but I just hope John will realize it before it is too late!!! (I am TOO invested in John and Sara's relationship!) 😄

WAUW I had no idea so much was actually build. I always guessed most was computerized backgrounds. This is awsome. I hope a season 3 will be made. But only if with these 3 people as I do love the set but the these three toghether make the series. I already was a great fan, and the reason I started watching this series, of Dakota Fanning.
Saw it, good series. Worth buying when it comes out on home video.

I only read a snippet from the show novelization, but it was funny. With John teasing his grandmother. It made me giggle so that I had to take a picture of it so I wouldn't forget. What is this thing with guys named Johnny that make them such stinkers? Even when random people mention examples of naughty behavior, when referring to boys, they ALWAYS say the name Johnny! I enjoyed this video too.
