We currently have 6 card buttons (Draw, Play, Redraw, Minor Arcana, Astrodyne, Undraw). To me the only thing that makes sense is 5 button replacement (Draw, Minor Arcana, Offensive Play, Defensive Play, Curative Play)
That's kind of what I'm hoping for as well - a different play for each type of play you want to do, rather than a different play button for each card (as I'm sure the cards will still be used for damage almost always), but I'm not sure how that would work. We would need some way to cycle through the cards to choose which one we want to play, so I'm not sure how it's going to work. Trying to remain optimistic though! (also undraw does not count as a current button LOL as it is the epitome of pointless and should not be on anyones hotbar)
these guys out here trying to tell me i got to have 9 buttons to play a card... one is draw and then 8 buttons that you can 'choose' is absurd, even if it has 4 designated slots for the cards then that's still 5 buttons
I'm definitely very curious to see how the new card system will work. Currently for the card system we have draw, play, redraw, minor arcana, and astrodyne, for a total of 5 buttons - so if we end up with 5 buttons for the new system, it will actually be the same amount! What worries me is how smooth it will feel to play. Rather than clicking on a party member and pressing the same play button every time, the new system may have a separate button for each card, so you'll be pressing a different one each time, which personally to me just seems harder to keep track of and like it won't flow as well/as comfortably. For now, I'm trying to remain optimistic!
I dont know why ppl are going crazy ( button bloat , button bloat ) with the old system going away they are already removing 6 button (technically) draw, redraw, play, undraw, minor arcana and astrodyne. So we probably going down to 5 button for the card system. #1 draw - will probably be changing button ex : first time you get lady and 3 other card second time get lord and 3 other card #2 play card - since the card will have more impactful effect only make sense they get their own button so ex : play card 1, play card 2, play card 3 and play card 4 There is no more redraw and undraw since the dev said the idea is you want to have played all your card before the next set is rdy to be played. Minor arcana get draw with draw so bye bye minor arcana. And last fuck astrodyne will not be miss. So even if we get 4 play button and 1 draw button we still are saving 1 button compare to how it is right now.
I think initially seeing how many buttons it will take for this card system sounds like a lot at first, but then when you think about the buttons that will be swapped out, it shouldn't be that different from how it is now. I'm more so just wondering how smooth it will feel to play and cycle through the cards or pick which one you want to play. I personally don't like the idea of having three or four separate buttons to play each card, not because its too many buttons, but because its just much more comfortable in my opinion and experience to have one play button since as ast, you GCD, click party list, play card, GCD, click party list, play card, GCD, click party list, play card in your opener. I find it easier to cycle through 3 buttons (aka having one play button) rather than 5. Also you shouldn't count removing undraw as one less button because no one should even have that on their hotbar LMAO I don't know how out of everything they've removed, undraw has managed to survive this long

It seems like they didn't return nocturnal sect to AST. It really lost its appeal for me when they removed that in EndWalker.
happy for the dashes and excited for astro stuff
