- Everyone wants to see one and they're happening more and more. But what is the best place to see a SpaceX launch at Cape Canaveral?
After months of planning it happened...we saw a rocket launch and you can too. We found the best place to see a SpaceX launch near Cape Canaveral and you need to add this to your family travel destinations list. The amount of rockets launching has gone up dramatically with SpaceX and Blue Origin getting into the mix so finding a launch date is getting easier. We used apps like the Launch Console app to help with dates, times, and locations as well. Using the app we found that Playalinda Beach was the best location for the first launch of a SpaceX Falcon 9 in 2022.

Seeing a rocket launch has been on our bucket list for a long time...and it finally happened. We saw the first SpaceX launch of 2022 and...WOW! It was such a great experience. This week's video shares our adventure and info on how to see a launch and where to go to make it happen.
Have you been to a launch?
Playa Linda is very nice for launches out of 39A and 39B which are the old Saturn 5 and Space shuttle launch platforms. For Air Force Station Launches and Space X booster return landings you want to go south to Jetty park.
Great info. Thank you for sharing!
Could u catch both in time or one or the other? Which has a better view? The launch or the return - this view still seems a bit far away? Planning our trip to see the falcon heavy this June, 2025
Excellent, informative video! Thank you so much!!
Thank you, we’re glad it helped.
Chris and Suzannah, seeing a launch of any space vehicle has been on my bucket list for a long time. Back in the ’90s, I had the chance to see the space shuttle discovery on the pad. I missed the launch by a few days.
Chris excellent footage of the launch. Don't worry too much about of the size of lenses; it's how you use them😉. Thank you for sharing. Peace and Safe Travels -Craig
The shuttle would have been so cool to see. Sorry you missed it.
So the launch footage is a very touchy subject. Basically, I double pressed the record on my Nikon so what would have been great ended up being nothing. Luckily we also had a GoPro10 running and Suzannah was using her iPhone 13. It pays to have a little backup but would have loved the quality the Nikon brought to the story. 😢
We're leaving today from Brazil and thanks to your tips, we'll be heading to Playa Linda next Friday to see the launch of Falcon 9 - Starlink 5-5. We are already rooting for everything to be ok.
Thanks for the valuable help.
That sounds like an awesome adventure! We hope the weather is great so the launch happens. Enjoy!!
Thank you for sharing!! That was awesome!!! 🎉😮
Thank you! We really appreciate the support.
Hi guys, great video, looks like a super thrilling experience! I'll be driving over to Cape Canaveral for a Falcon Heavy launch this weekend, however it's scheduled for 10:14pm. Since Playa Linda closes 6:00pm, any suggestions on where to watch the launch from? Thanks a lot :) !
We’ve only been to the one launch. I found this on a website, might help.

Hope it helps and that you’re able to see the launch. One piece of advice regardless of where you go; go early!
@@HintonTheTrail Thank you so much guys, looking forward to it 😃 !
i am amazed you had no people walking to the observation spot. you needed to walk .93 miles towards the cape to the barrier. you are SCARY close and 100% allowed to be there. im headed down in march to fish and i always try to catch a launch.
Is that walking down along the beach?
@@HintonTheTrail yes, you can find you tube videos of people that have gone all the way down to the barrier..
We walked down a ways but didn’t realize how far you could go. This is great info for folks. Thanks for sharing.
@@HintonTheTrail haha, its america, go till they stop you. i must say, if you go all the way to the barrier, ITS REALLY CLOSE. maybe too close for some. but you are close my friend
Tensions are high! LOL Sometimes we run into that same issue where my husband can see something that I can't because his extra height gives him a different vantage point.
We are so excited about Starlink and we would also love to see a Rocket Launch someday. Thanks for sharing those apps!!! Nice zoom!!! I didn't think you'd be able to see it that well from 5 miles away. Exciting!!! Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Is that sound what you were actually hearing from your location?
We’re really looking in to Starlink as an option. It’ll be interesting to see I see how it grows and what the end state results will be when it comes to speed.
That was the sound! We had to turn the volume down when editing. It is loud and you can feel the vibrations from 5-miles away. It’s a great experience for hat we hope you get to have as well.
@@HintonTheTrail Wow, you can definitely feel the rocket's power from watching your video. Yes, we're eagerly waiting to learn more about Starlink as well. Especially if they will offer options for people like us who have a home base and travel. If we're able to buy a plan that will cover us at home AS WELL AS when traveling, that would be amazing. We can't afford two different internet plans. I guess we'll see...
Looking forward to watching your next adventure!
So cool, going there to hopefully see Artemis 1 launch Aug 29th. 🚀
Ohh, that’s going to be so cool! Get there very early!!
I’d like to go see Artemis 1 too. I want to park a bit further away and ride my bike over. I can probably do a 10 mile ride each way? Just have to figure out where to park. :/
@@TT-bu7pu Make sure you look at the times. If you're going into the Playalinda Beach area it closes early. If you're not out you're staying until the next day.
Too bad it got canceled
Planning for Artemis 1, 9/3 after watching this video. I live 3 hours away, launch is at 2pm. How early should I be there?
Hey guys , Vicky here... Hows it goin? That was a cool video ! Awsome launch ! They are so spectacular to watch. I remember (when I was little) going to Cape Kennedy to see a couple launches. (yeah, back in the day) lol My family (mom, dad, me an my 2 brothers in a camper) happen to be down in Florida on Christmas vacation, at the time a few launches was scheduled. These days me and Ed (hubby) head to Chincoteague Island VA to watch some launches go off at Wallops Island. We've seen quite a few! Awsome to watch for sure!! Question for Suzannah: lol, the magnet you have on the frig. that says ,"When Mama Bear Attacks.....?" I cant read what the rest of it says, can you message me sometime, and let me know? Thank you so much. I know well, what it means sometimes to have to turn into a Mama Bear, OR a Mama Bull Moose !!! lol Take care, Stay safe Vicky
Ha ha. The sign says:
When mama bear attacks
Number 1: avoid eye contact
Number 2: apologize
Number 3: give her a glass of wine
😂😂
@@HintonTheTrail Thats so funny !! I gotta get one of those ! Thanks vicky
People are told, you haven’t tho, to travel a long distance to see a launch, because often scrubbed with 10 seconds or less to go. So if you are closer, pack a beach bag and enjoy the beach whether it goes or not
Good info. Thank you for sharing.
Heading over for our first launch in a few days (sunset Falcon Heavy @ 39A with boosters returning to LZ 1&2). Playalinda was my first though, but launch window opens 10m before park closes, bit of a risk as any slip and we will be busy getting pushed out of the park at launch. Titusville parks are 3 times the distance and since this may be our only want the 'best show' the public can access. On the hunt for a few resources to look at other options. Mainly, is there a good place to see where/when public access is restricted for the launch? ideally a map showing where access is restricted, road closures, checkpoints etc so we know where we are allowed to be.
Sorry we don’t have that info. Hope you’re able to find the right place to see a launch!
