A lot of what you charge is doing to depend greatly on the complexity. I am a Professional Engineer, who is very familiar with what a designer needs to have in their hands to do the design or regulatory studies. I’m looking at doing drone data collection to sell to other engineers. I’m two hours from any metro area, so for anyone else to come where I am and do anything will include at least four hours of travel expenses. I find the whole discussion interesting, and think it will be fun.
As to teaching clients what you can deliver will help greatly in defining the scope of work with the client. Some Engineering firms, may want just a point cloud. Realtors will have a different need. And a biologist who is studying fish or wildlife habitat, will have a different set of needs and desires. Being able to discuss it with the client and define the need before you go out in the field, and do the collection is critically important.
Just my input. Remember that an actual topo survey provided by a PLS will have to include boundary determination along with any underground utilities such as storm drain and sanitary sewer that LiDAR will not pick up (beneath the ground). Boundary monuments also will not be picked up. Thus a field crew is STILL REQUIRED. A field crew will also have to set control for the flight(s). Plan on spending some man-hours with a field crew in addition to the flight crew, etc. Just FYI folks!
They said that in the discussion but yes field crews are still required.
If the property owner has already had a PLS do the boundary survey, you can make targets to place on the monuments the PLS has established and reference them into your data. It would be easy to make targets, in CAD, and print them to an adhesive backed film and attach them to plywood circles. Or, just paint them onto inexpensive plates. Anyone can get the location data on utilities, pretty much by just asking. Or, you can sub your services to the PLSs who work in your area.
Definitely looking forward to seeing different options.
What if your not a Surveyor or engineer?
You don't need to be a Surveyor to fly drone LiDAR!

Aside from just RUclips ;) what is the best training to get into the industry? Are there online courses you suggest? Not looking to do multiple years of schooling.

I've just been watching your videoes since this year Feb. Im from Papua New Guinea and I am really interested in learning more, as coming from a developing country, with our land mass mostly covered by thick tropical rainforests, rough terrain and a lot of rivers to cross it's a very expensive exercise in engaging surveyors to get data needed for designing new roads and determining best routes over the rough terrain. Most of our population here have no excess to basic services in towns cos of no road excess. I believe this one of the best cost effective approaches in collecting data for design purposes and to seek donour funding to connect our communities here by road.

Harrison, I'm in the process of going into LIDAR drones and my company will be investing in this product. I've seen many of your videos but where can I find some long hour trainings for field to finish? I want to see/learn how to setup a job, setup my drone and any precautions that are needed before flight, process the data, and draw in the features (like edge of pavement lines, granite curbs, pavement markings. For a small job I myself can do all of that in one day with a robotic total station and want to know how its done the same way within drones. Obviously it wont be exactly the same since with total station work there's line work which pretty much cuts a lot of the office work in half and usually if its programmed correctly it'll come in the correct layers in Civil 3d.

First a question- What is the name of the Facebook channel? Next- I am just starting to get into drones for money and I have an Autel Evo II Pro (enterprise) and I would like to know what deliverables I can provide with that drone and I do want to get into LiDAR but don't have the money for it right now- I need some help with what I should by next to get into LiDAR. (What drone is best as well as the best LiDAR/Cam to put on it). I think it was one of your videos that talked about the LiDAR 360- Is that the best while what you have from your business is most affordable?

I am looking for an inexpensive lidar drone for doing prospector topos. I don't need surveyor quality, only relative mapping quality. I want to map closed gold claims to locate old workings. Example, a tailings pile might be a few feet in diameter and in height. I would also be for hire for those people who have active claims to help them further understand their assets. Thank you.

what is the least expensive way in to owning a lidar drone? DJI?
Depends on what your idea of least expensive. Trying to save money in the inital stages could cost you a lot more in the long term. Please stop calling yourselves pilots, even worse commercial pilots. If your body is not in an aircraft when your "flying" you are not a pilot. It costs something like 100,000$ US to become a commercial pilot. It costs 175$ US to get a drone operators certificate from the FAA. If you don't know what a METAR is without looking it up, your not a pilot.
A pilot is someone who is operating an aircraft. A drone is classified as a aircraft by the FAA. To fly a drone commercially you have to be licensed with the FAA, and part of that knowledge test does have to do with METAR among other things. If you had ever taken a remote pilot exam or course for it you would know that. Just because you fly a manned aircraft doesn’t mean you alone get to make the decision of who is and isn’t considered to be a pilot. So the only thing you’re accomplishing here is being a bully and a misinformed individual.

@@malloyneil40 yes actually it does, maybe Google should be the first thing you do before you attempt to offer your opinion.
@@IrishReaper1776 actually it does not. To operate a drone for compensation or hire you have to have an FAA remote pilot operator certificate not a commercial pilots license. Maybe you should do more than a simple google search. An operators certificate has nothing at all to do with being a pilot, and everything to do with offering carriage of persons or cargo to the public for hire. Part 135 and 121 are types of operator certificates. Often owned or managed by persons who have never flow an aircraft a day in their life. If you want to debate 14 CFR perhaps study the whole thing before attempting to debate someone who teaches it every single day.
