Just got back from a week trip on a whim….amazing!!! My advice is skip the tours and rent a car. We drove to 3 different waterfalls, geysir and black sand beach. Was able to pull over enjoy the scenery and was a great experience. Did a boat tour for northern lights but couldn’t see them with naked eye (the different colors at least) once you put your phone to the sky you see different colors. Also did a glacier tour that you definitely need a guide for but is a pretty strenuous workout if you’re not in shape.
