I rarely see Mantas where I live and the car meets I frequent. That’s some serious rot you’re removing, most of them were scrapped for less back in the day.
The Opel Manta was a far better car to drive than an Escort,, much more refined. Shame that repair panels and complete panels were never made in volume,, unlike the Escort 😢😢
Somebody I know had a 1986 gte hatch and in 1998 ended up having a new roof skin as it was rotten around the hinges from wings front panel inner wings and rear panel even then panels were hard to get they were a bit of a rotter
30 years ago I helped a friend get his Manta 2.0SR Berlinetta through the MoT. Lifted the carpet and the floor had rotted in exactly the same place but the previous owner filled the hole with the Manchester Evening News and underseal over the top. I wonder if YOF 28T is still around?
Just found you. Great to see UK skills in use and saving classics from recycling.

Yes totally agree we have cut up better cars in the past but the values have rocketed in recent years making them more restoration now.
@@RetroRestorationGarage a mate of mine bought a mint one for £1400 in about 1993. Like everyone else he wished he’d kept it.

Yes it's a very common area on the mantas and there's a lot out there filled with fibreglass and filler lol
Normally a lid from a 40gallon drum would be ideal with a few pop rivets and underseal 😂
@@Pats-Shed newspaper and resin normally works too 😆
