  • Dale Jr just got nominated for the NASCAR Hall of Fame! So with that I figured that on the 8 year anniversary of his streak snapping win at Michigan I would go back and revisit said win from a different angle. My angle! This is my story of being at a race that my favorite driver won.

@@spencermerritt4441 I mean, I didn't necessarily know that's how it was gonna go down, but it is what it is, and I got to see the end of the race because I won the first bout. He squirrelled me later on though, knocked me down and kicked me in the head a couple of times before his gang leader had enough of him constantly starting fights over dumb shit and "encouraged" him to stop. Never had any issues with that particular fella again lol.

You're actually number three under Hamlin and Earnhardt Sr. but above Davey Allison and Alan Kulwiki. You may not have had a lot of success in the cup series but you always ran clean. You're the epitome of lawful good. Once again thank you for all the memories of seeing you on the track.

Unfortunately I was never able to witness either one take a victory lap. I'm crying while writing this because I think about Geeg Moore and I was at California Speedway on that fateful Holloween in 1999. Thank you for putting together great videos and keep going and keep rooting for whoever u love.

I went to the same summer races from 2010-2012 I saw I believe, Denny, Biffle, and Jr win. We would always sit in turn 3-4 sucks they got rid of those stands they were the best seats in the house. I remember 2012 the 2 hour long rain, the best part was hearing all the fans screaming over the roar of the cars.

I was at that race, rooting for Keselowski. I remember a family sitting near to us giving me and my brother, who were 7 and 9 respectively, Dale Jr. seat cushions so our asses wouldn't get wet and we would be more comfortable on those aluminum benches. I remember them saying something along the lines of "These cushions will make Jr. win and turn you all into Jr. fans". I remember that family cheering when Jr. crossed the line, and looking back at it, especially after watching this video, made me feel really happy for that family. They let us keep those cushions, and unfortunately they broke a few years ago and we ended up getting rid of them. They were right too, Jr. did win and, although we didn't turn into Jr. fans outright, we definitely looked upon Jr. more fondly. I will never forget that day.

I was there too! Sat in the now gone turn 3 grandstands with my grandpas on both sides of my family, my dad and my brother. We were soaked from the rain but we didn’t care. They held up fingers counting down the numbers of laps left when he came by, I was in disbelief that he’d finally won again. I have been a fan of him since 2007, so I didn’t see him win much on tv when I was younger, let alone in person, I’ll never forget that day, as it was the only time I ever saw him win in person. We were supposed to be there in 08 when he won but we left because of the rain (I regret doing that to this day) but I feel lucky to have been there, and I’m glad you were there to see it too

I was actually there for this race as well, I stayed for probably about an hour after as well. I am a Kyle Busch fan too but never understand why people leave early, there are other people to root for. You paid a lot to be there to not even see the end of the race. The fans in the stands that day were insane. Me and my dad had a very intoxicated group behind us and they were losing their shit. They kept holding their beers up in the sky saying this is for you Dale. They about fell down all the grandstands on the way down, but someone caught them. I've been to several Michigan races but didn't remember that this was the one that rained until you said that. We went back to our car soaking wet and turned on the heater because we were cold while we waited for the track to dry.

Wow, great video. Also a huge Dale jr fan and I was at Michigan in 08 and 2012 for those wins. In 2012 we had a Hotel reserved so we left on Saturday. As I was putting the last suitcase in the car I experienced an erupted tooth and was in blinding pain but no way I was missing the race so my wife drove us from central Ohio to our hotel in Michigan where I laid in the hotel room in absolute agony while my wife and kids enjoyed the pool. Fortunately the next morning my toothache was gone and we arrived at the race only to have to shelter in a souvenir tent for 2 hours to wait out the rain. Once the track dried and the race started I remember it the way you do, just amazing. I remember my wife looking over at me towards the end of the race with jr in the lead and there were tears running down my face from under my sunglasses. Exactly like you said, it was one of the greatest days of my life and I’ll never forget it! Thanks for bringing back those memories brother!🏁

My very first race was the Bass Pro Shop MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2003. They ran about 20-50 laps until it started to rain, so the races was moved to Monday. It was me, my dad (both Gordon fans), my cousin (Harvick fan), my uncle (Dale Jr fan) and two of my dad and uncles cousin's and their nephew (two Dale Jr fans and one Sterling Marlin fan). We all piled into a old GMC or Chevy van. The big ones with the seat that laid down in the back. We got soaked and did have a change of clothes, but luckily my dad and my cousins dad bought us some clothes from one of the drivers merchandise haulers. We stayed overnight and watched the race the next day. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. And the cherry on top was that Gordon won. My favorite driver won my very first race, it is something I will never forget. I've been to several other races and seen Johnson twice, Kurt Busch twice, Kahne and Harvick win at Atlanta. Kahne and Harvick won the two night races when they first started running them again, Harvicks was in the Busch series and he could have won the cup race, but Kahne got him on a late restart. Then I seen Regan Smith, Keselowski and Hamlin win at Darlington. Hamlins win was in the Xfinity series. Watching Regan Smith beat Carl Edwards was awesome, then seeing Busch run into Harvicks car on pit road after the race because Harvick was trying to fight him was hilarious. I also saw Carl Edwards dump Keselowski at Atlanta when he flipped and landed on the driver side roof of his car on the wall. I can say I've been blessed to see some good races and hopefully can see some more in the future.

Crazy how someone from the total other side of the country can have such a similar childhood. My first race was in spring 2006 at Talladega. Growing up in an Earnhardt car seat I was so excited to finally see Jr race in real life. I remember my heart jumping out of my chest on the final lap with excitement. Only to see all my excitement turn into confusion and anger in a cloud of dust on the back stretch. At the time, this young 9 year old had never felt a rush like that, and from that moment on I was always going to be a die hard Jr fan. So happy and proud to see his name in the hall of fame.

This video is why I love nascar. The great memories and awesome racing is what makes it so special to it's fans. I remember going to bed early during the 2012 Daytona 500 just to hear next morning from my mom Matt Kenseth, my favorite driver at the time won. I remember going to Pocono to hand out chairs for a school fundraiser and seeing my first race. The next week, I remember going nuts seeing Chase win his first race, jumping up and down crying that he finally done it.

Jr was my dad’s favorite driver. He was thrilled and so was I. One of the happiest I’ve been when my driver didn’t win. I know the exact feeling when I watched Chase Elliott win at Kansas in the 2018. Nothing is like seeing your favorite driver win in person.

I've only been to one race and that was the 2018 Coke 600. I saw all the spins, felt the intense heat from Blaney's fire, the battered cars of the 3, 4, and 24 go past me. From the 42's spin through turn 2 and onto the back stretch and the 48 spinning through turn 4. I really thought that the 48 was the 42, but it was so far away (I was sitting close to turn one) that I didn't know. I went with my dad who was rooting for MTJ who eventually finished 2nd and my brother who was rooting for Chase Elliott who got 11th. My favorite driver was and still is Jimmie Johnson and even though he didn't lead at all, I saw on the pylon that he was running top 5 and I was really happy. At the end of the race, I saw one of my least favorite drivers win, but it was alright because he just won at all the tracks and it was in a paint scheme that I really liked.

As a die hard sports fan, its always a great feeling seeing your favorite teams win, especially live. You can kinda pick games they're favored to win so you can experience a win live. But with Nascar, its always a crapshoot! My favorite driver before Chase Elliott was Jeff Gordon. And I have been to a plethora of Cup races but in 2007, I got to experience him win twice. Talk about amazing! The first win was at my home track of Darlington. And like you, the last 10 laps couldn't have gone by any slower.. the race got rained out Saturday and was ran on Sunday afternoon, and JG was overheating and Hamlin was catching him in the closing laps. As they wound down, I could barely contain my excitement. After he won, like yourself, I may have shed a tear or 50 lol. It was the best feeling ever! Then to see him win again at the fall Charlotte race was even better, but was almost pure luck lol. He lost the lead with a few laps to go, Newman (the leader) spun, and on the restart, JG almost ran out of gas but had enough to win, and that was awesome, especially because it was a chase race. I went with my parents for Darlington and they were just as excited as I was, but at Charlotte, I went with a group of my family, most who hated JG and I couldn't help but laugh at their hatred haha.

I had a similar experience with Paul Menard winning the Brickyard 400 in 2011. I had been a fan of him since he started driving for DEI and my family were diehard Earnhardt fans. I loved Jr as well but I always liked rooting for the underdogs. I specifically remember him avoiding a wreck by going through the grass earlier in the race narrowly. Then fuel conservation came into factor and with him moving to RCR he had a much needed improvement in Slugger Labbe for a crew chief. Him being able to conserve and hold onto the win with a hard charging Jeff Gordon behind him was one of the most nerve racking moments ever. I absolutely loved that moment and everyday for almost an entire week after that race I would just watch the videos on RUclips that released about his win.

That feeling of seeing your favorite driver win in person is truly one of the greatest feelings ever for real. I've been lucky enough to see Kyle Busch win twice in person (Sonoma '15, Charlotte '18). Amazing experiences.

I remember watching that race with my dad, we were about to give up on hope, but when it came down to 5 laps to go he got up and started screaming at the TV. It was an awesome thing to see, we even got the die cast of that car sitting in my family’s living room now.

Me, my son and dad have only been to 1 race, Sonoma 2017, Jr's last run there. Wife had got us tickets so we could see Junebug run a race. Danica spun him in turn 11 about mid race and we thought he was done. But he rallied back to finish 6th, one of, if not his best finish there in his career. That was one of the best weekends I've ever had. Glad he's in the HOF. He's earned it 10 times more than Kyle Busch could even if Jr doesn't have a championship to show for it.

I was at my Aunt’s house watching this race. Those last 10 laps were agonizing long. My birthday and high school graduation was a week prior to this race. So this race was a nice late birthday and graduation gift.
I think you would also be interested to know I too have witnessed Dale Jr win in person. It was the 2008 Budweiser Shootout. His Hendrick Motorsports debut. And that entire day I just had a feeling he would win. And sure enough, he did. Even though it wasn’t a points race, it was still an awesome. I never really thought I would be at a race to see my favorite driver win. That night I thought it was the start of a fantastic run at HMS for Junior. It took about 6 more years to see the success that I was expecting to see. But hey, better late than never I guess lol

Forever will be my favorite moment as a fan Gordon for nearly 20 years. 24ever

I experienced the same thing as you myself when I was a kid. I was there on April 21st, 2002 at the 2002 Aaron's 499 at Talladega. I was 9 years old turned 10 months later. I was in the 6th row up from the start/finish line. Me & my parents actually left the track slightly before the finish, but only so we could beat traffic & not get caught in a jam. But we looked on the nascar.com site & saw the Jr had won.
Unlike you I was a junior fan ever since his dad Dale Sr died in the 2001 Daytona 500. I was 8 at the time, my grandmother turned 63 that day. It was me, her & my mom & dad in the room. I'll never forget to this day after Mike Helton said those haunting words my mom said "(sighs) well I guess we're gonna have to start watching junior now". I was a fan ever since, but that 2002 Aaron's 499 to this day is the only race I ever attended

I was watching the race at home and with around 25 laps to go my power went out. Knowing that Junior was leading and was in position to win, I couldn't not watch the finish. So I got in my car, and drove as fast as I could across town to my grandparents' house, ran in, and commandeered the TV, just in time to see the last 15 laps. I'm glad I did.

I had the complete opposite experience to this at Auto Club in 2018 😂 I had met Harvick about three hours before the race and had given him a penny. Unfortunately that might've jinxed the whole deal because he and the 42 collided on the backstraight, essentially ending the race for the 4 squad. I sat the next 40 or so laps in the grandstands completely helpless. Worst feeling a race fan could get at an event.
Btw that is just a part of the utter disappointment that's been Kevin's run at ACS since I became a fan of his in 2015. Two runner-ups, a missed opportunity in 2017 alongside the previously mentioned story, 2019, and then the absolute garbage car he had there a few months back. I don't know what it is about my favorite driver not being able to win at my favorite racetrack, but I can tell you that I'm still waiting for the perfect weekend. How tragic 💀

2014 Daytona 500, as a huge Earnhardt fan this was the best race I ever went to. Just like you, huge rain delay. Wasn’t budging an inch I’m going to see this race. The USO gave us tickets since we’re active duty and got to go down on pit road. I sneak over and touch his car. I find it awesome that others have experienced the same feeling because you feel like you’ve won the race when your driver wins. Thanks for you video!

I remembering being super disappointed because we were on a family road trip at the time, so I regretfully had to listen to the entire race on the car radio with my family. Like you said, it didn’t really seem real until the very end when MRN declared Jr. as the winner. I remember my dad honking the horn down the highway and 12 year old me was pumping my fist repeatedly in my green #88 shirt. After that race I remember thinking, wow I really hope I get to see him win in person. Thankfully for me, we go to Pocono every single year for both races, and as every Jr. fan surely knows, something special happened at that place in ‘14. It was an unreal summer for me, that my only two times I got to witness Jr. winning a race, it was at my home track and in the same summer. Anyways awesome video man, love to listen to your stuff!!

I am sort of new NASCAR fan.
I am a Russian so I started watching in 2014, almost as soon as NASCAR channel started to drop full race replays.
I instantly liked Jeff Gordon but even more so... Martin Truex Jr. I absolutely loved a story of him driving a 1-car team with a good looking paint scheme. As MTJ fans know, 2014 was really bad for him. I didn’t know anything about his career so I assumed that I will be destined to watch him being nowhere. After several much better years November 19, 2017 came. On that day MTJ got his well deserved championship, still driving that same FRR 78 (even though it was a Toyota and with Cole Pearn as a crew chief).

Sadly, I was at the beach that day..... the one time not only a Hendrick car won the race, but Jr winning a Cup race for the first time in 4 years, I did not see it.... I was happy, but I was mainly meh because I did not see him win live. However, I got to finally see Jr win for the first time on TV in the 2014 Daytona 500!
When I was at Homestead for the 2013 Ford Ecoboost 400, I FINALLY had the chance to see Jimmie win the 2013 title (3rd champion with no chase). However as for Jr, when he was racing with Hamlin and Keselowski (I think) and then Kenseth later on, I was rooting for Jr! Could you imagine if I saw a Hendrick car winning a race and another HMS driver winning the title?? Sadly, that was not the case. However, I was so happy to see Jr competing for a win in person! Throughout the entire race, I never left my seat for the entire race and celebrations.

I went to the 2016 race at Homestead for all 3 races. The race ended around 8 PMish after a long red flag when Edwards and Logano collided so I stayed for the fireworks, burnout and partially the celebration except I had to leave and book a hotel near the airport because my dad to pick up my sister from college which she went to Spain from May 21- July 1, 2017 to study abroad which I went to Daytona for the Xfinity race where I saw the first 11 laps and it rained and the race got postponed where I saw the race from laps 12-46ish on my NBC Sports App and I got updates from my friend when I landed back to the airport in Allentown, Pennsylvania and I just barely made it in time to watch the Coke Zero 400 on NBC, it would’ve been sooner but it got delayed because of rain, thunder and lightning which that was part of it and the worst thing is that they didn’t have enough flight attendants so my dad said that was a waste of time. When I got back from the airport from Homestead, I was freezing because I was at Newark airport and it snowed and I absolutely hate the winter.

this was an amazing video. you are by far the smartest of all NASCAR youtubers and i highly enjoy watching your videos. it reminds me of when i went to my first race in 2016 at Darlington. im a Martin Truex Jr. fan as well. i had actually met Ryan Newman that day along with Blaney and Smith as well. but, Newman practically denied me a selife and went on to the person next to me. i asked if we could take a selfie together, he smiled and said sure, but, when i leaned in to get a good picture, he just moved on, for no apparent reason. i tried asking him why and tried to get a selfie or two but the crowd then started pouring in. from that day on i have not liked Ryan Newman, yet, i do forgive him. but, i was so upset about it and told my mom and brother and dad that i was just so upset because he was one of the first drivers that i have ever met, not even getting a fist bump and lug nuts from Ryan Blaney could help. but, long behold, my favorite driver ended up making it all better that night, i watched my favorite driver get only his fifth career win and his first and only at Darlington thus far now in his career. i was ecstatic as he slid the car after his main burnout, DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME! nothing could have made it better. ive been an mtj fan since the 2015 and ill never forget that night. then somebody flipped us off on the way home because my dad accidentally had his blinders on, LOL
