My fav vocal performance from Michael. Rod Temperton wrote it. The unmistakeable horns from Jerry Hey and co. I read Phillinganes did a lot of the keyboard work with this one.
I watched Running Scared once or twice, but I liked the video and song featured in it, "Sweet Freedom" much more. I had just turned 6 over Summer 1986 when it was in heavy video and radio rotation. It's such a feel good song and video, I can't help but smile anytime it comes on.
"Sweet Freedom".......was, is, and will always be, one of my favorite songs.
I love Michael McDonald. His voice is so utterly distinctive!!

His voice is so iconic!
This was mid 80’s. Michael had left Doobie Brothers a few years before.
Everything Michael McDonald touches turns to gold. Thank you for a great video reaction!🌷🌷🌷🌷
So good!
When this song got remade along side Safri Duo, it got a whole different vibe, the original is great but the other version is FIRE
It starts off a little like the beginning of Alll night Long by Lionel Ritchie
You are right!
I love it!! (I forgot about this song!)
I did too!
