New mechanics, listen to him. Dont get into debt! Now, a few things I will add, in the "too poor to buy cheap crap" category.
Power tools, stick to one brand (one battery platform), and Milwaukee has set a pretty high bar, (especially the big impacts, so M18 line). Things that break A LOT, ie, breaker bars, pry bars, hammers, deadblows, those you can get on a truck, since you WILL go through a lot of them, and the warranty, plus them coming to you, is a great time saver.
Also, I wouldnt get any complete sets. Build it up, as you go, with what you need. If you look at my box, after decades (including the fact that where I worked, tools were provided for us), its all kinds of colors, brands, types, from aviation specific, to the strangest looking open ends. Why? Because I needed those, and either I just could not get away using something else or borrowing the tool, or, I would be doing enough of those that it made sense to get that specialty tool.
So, this is me just adding on, and hopefully starting some engagement here.
As a side note....why does your car sound like a Cessna at 10.000 feet? I like it, and listen to a lot of aviation channels, and my brain is confused seeing a car interior but brrrrrrr!
