The only way I thought it would work is to make BRAN evil too, like Hodor, he could have warged into Daenerys while she was on the dragon when he bells rang and he could have visited the memory of her father screaming “burn them all” which would put the blame on Bran to why “she went mad” and burned all these people bc that decision why burn everyone makes no sense whether she is mad or not bc she already achieved her goal of having Kings Landing. Now HBO should hire me.

Another RUclipsr whose name I've unfortunately forgotten pointed out that one of the "lessons" the show is trying to teach us with this final season is that those who Care Too Much (Dany) are Bad Rulers and those who TBH Don't Have Many Feelings On the Matter (Bran) are Better Rulers. Sansa in the early seasons, too, was ruled by her heart and her passions, not her head. Only after she "learned" to compartmentalize and present herself as Less Feeling did she become stamped as a Fitting Ruler. (I would argue that it's actually Book!Sansa's sensitivity and kindness and softness that would make her a great Queen in the North, but the show's costuming and dialogue make her come off as very standoffish and harsh and cold.)
I also think it's truly FASCINATING that at this time, Alexas and Siris and Google Homes were becoming very popular, and news was just starting to break that the host corporations were collecting data from ambient conversations, yet the writers didn't think how that could be read into their decision to make Bran (a literal all-seeing, all omniscient being) the King. Like....hello Patriot Act? Warrantless wiretapping, anyone?? The more time that goes by, the more I'm just baffled rather than angry about the writing choices made.
Thank you so much for adding your voices to the reaction community!

When Daenerys says “the world we need won’t be built by men loyal to the world we have”, and also “it’s not easy to see something that’s never been before” she’s not talking “madness” which is what people at those time would think but we should understand she’s referring to democracy here. This is why they chose the leader after her death as Tyrion said “this is the wheel your Queen wanted to break” to Grey Worm. Funny because they used to call Einstein or Galileo mad too back in their times for their ideas which turned out to be correct. She’s not talking madness there.

you gotta see it from day one. And her journey, she didn’t grow up in Westeros. She grew up with Dothraki. She decided to rule out of fear. And she used kingslanding as a warning. It’s so obvious. People say she went crazy. But it was a clear a decisive choice. That’s why she said to Tyrion “ future generations” will never know what it feels like to be held prisoner by a tyrant. She already made her mind up then. The real villain. Is BRAN bSTARK. The last 2 episodes was really George's doing. George built the platform for the last train stop long ago, way before the screenplay writers got the job. The pilot episode was really about a morally good family brought up the right way, this was where the bulk of the show's screenplay time went to. Some viewers got too caught up with a blonde girl & her dragons. This was really a side piece, next to the Starks. George detailed in the pilot episode on what the remaining Starks coveted & put the puzzle pieces to where they belonged. This show was not about "Deserves," to appease fans. The 3 biggest arguments for the end is having Bran on the throne, not Jon & the Dani scenario. If you remember in the pilot episode it was Bran being groomed to lead, he was the most in awe of the King coming to Winterfell & George purposely stole Bran's attributes from another fictional character, who was a leader, in a wheel chair with a vast mind. Charles Xavier of the X-Men. Bran could of used some more screen time to build up his character, a lot of the blame for that is misdirected at the screenplay writers. Season 5 was still under George's control, they gave Bran that season off. Jon only coveted to be at the wall, over there he lit up that the Lord Commander was grooming him to lead. He became the King beyond the wall. Daenarys in a short span, had 2 of her dragons killed, her right hand girl, Missandei killed, her left hand confidant, Jorah killed, three of her inner circle were conspiring behind her back. The only loyal person she had left was Grey Worm. This was certainly enough to drive a person mad. Let alone the repeated story of the Mad King. It was also safe to assume that the Mad King was not already mad when he ascended to the throne. If one chooses to ignore the early premonitions & Dani's obsession with the throne throughout the series, you sure haven't paid attention close enough to the show. I blame a lot of the sour grapes coming from people, mostly book readers, who couldn't come to grip that the show ended. Who later became Monday Morning QBs & criticized seasons 6, 7 & 8, because the screenplay writers took over the story. Something they try to mention & manipulate every new GOT reactor with, to see things their way. I've watched dozens of reactors, mostly the original ones, who reacted to the episodes as they first aired. Up to season 8, episode 4, there was nothing but love of each and every episode. There were a few that soured at the end. but they were a small minority. They never had to contend with people that were Monday Morning QBs, because no one knew how the show would end. This show was the best TV show ever in my book, one should look at the glass being 95% full & not complain about the 5% that isn't.

I am so glad your immediate reaction to Arya saying she’d be going west of Westeros was that it would be a good spinoff series. That was my thought as well. I hated the idea of a Jon Snow spinoff and so glad that got tabled. Glad you also said “what am I gonna do in the north???!!l” regarding that storyline cause I was also thinking why would we need a whole show of that???? Unless Drogon was going to get lonely and actually decide to let Jon ride him - even that would not go far. Jons Arc concluded but Aryas sense of adventure and not belonging - that can be drawn out. I don’t think it will ever happen. We are getting an adventure spin off in The Hedge knight.

When they tried doing the series about the North and the children of the forest they had the whole Season 1 recorded and edited but despite it being written good and well produced they couldnt “because it didn’t feel like the world of Game of Thrones” and they realised the Targaryens were a big part of that from their history to iconic hair, it was less crazy and when it was it was almost less justified without how the Targaryens justified their weird behaviours with traditions.

I feel like the entire Bran becoming King twist was nothing more than a spoiler bullet point. There was no plot or reasoning behind it. Just to play devils advocate here.. the writers were hired to make a show out of already existing material.. they were told the show would not pass the books.. season 6 was the beginning of them having to finish the story. That is not what they were hired to do.. ADAPT a book, not FINISH 2.. Having said that.. they ABSOLUTELY botched it, they ABSOLUTELY rushed it, they ABSOLUTELY were more interested in their upcoming Star Wars project, they ABSOLUTELY should have taken ALL the extra time & seasons that hbo offered them.. BUT.. they did NOT sign up to finish books that the AUTHOR has not finished in over 2 DECADES.. for me, personally, it was the RUSH of it all that was worse than the writing.. I think they could’ve almost received a pass on the crap writing had they given us more time w the decisions of the characters.. 2 seasons of Arya being a faceless man & about 3/4 of an episode on Daenerys snapping..

The show runners obsession with painting Jon and Tyrion as absolute heroes is infuriating! Having Jon cry as he kills Dany, like she’s too powerful so the man who loves her must kill her is so sexist and disgusting

I will never get over the assassination of Daenerys character. You guys have to understand.. for those that watched the show from the very start and had to wait years for the new seasons to come out to find out what’s going to happen, about the night king, will Daenerys make it to Kings landing, to watch her go from nothing to having everything she wanted. We saw children like Sansa and Arya grow up in front of us in real time and Dany too. To hear how horrible the Mad King was and seeing how cruel Viserys was, to make her worse above all almost felt like my child in a way was killed in front of me. It doesn’t make sense why she’d burn everything when after the bells rang she already achieved her goal. Saying she’s mad is such a weak storyline I’d much prefer if Bran was actually evil now that’d make him be bit more interesting, and maybe not piss many people off who watched GOT also because it was a show where there were Queens, and we thought they were good. It’s just so upsetting I get why Emilia Clarke is forever traumatised and she really feels uncomfortable talking about anything to do with GOT now. Sansa becoming Queen also saying in the previous season “she’s no longer a little bird” because of all the abuse she suffered, and THAT gets rewarded, Sophie Turner who played Sansa also said she wished her character turned evil somehow, maybe she’d join forces with Little finger and that would make sense considering what happened to her and also people kind of didn’t like Sansa from the begging anyway. It is a Disney ending to me, because everyone got what they wanted (not Dany) apart from the fact things make no sense. This isn’t a game of thrones ending to me. I still love the show and HOTD is amazing but I’ll never forgive, and I see they try to fix some mistakes made in GOT.

Season 1-6 are so nice to rewatch some things here and there are “?” But most of it is good but damn rewatching S7-8 is where I just watch the key episode so the one scene in the finale S7 and this episode of S8 because the stupid things these characters say throughout is just painful especially on a rewatch you’d think they would say more than “yes my queen, my queen” or even Tyrions silly mistakes, I just can’t…

It’s hilarious to me bc they rushed writing this season bc they were salivating at doing their next show, which was supposed to be “if the confederate army won” so this is how we ended up with this very rushed season. And their new show got x’d even before it started hahahaha serves them right

Welcome to the worst ending of a story ever told. Daenerys storyline is ridiculous . We had one central figure as a mad monarch . To have her hear bells and roast her subjects , does not track. Look at every action she took , it had a logic to it. Even killing the tarly's was not an infliction point for any underlying mad queen impulse. Horrible ending. . terrible job conclusion.

For me there was too much BS in this episode to like. Obviously, Daenerys ending goes without saying. In the end the show became like a different world from the one I was shown for several seasons. In my ending that makes since to me for this world is Tyrion, Jon and Davos are war criminals, to the people of Westeros. They took Kings Landing with her. We the audience know they weren't down with what she did but the people there don't. No way they would be hand and on the small council and go live peacefully north of the wall. They would be executed for genocide. How brutal the north is, Sansa has no one to protect her, no Arya, Brianne, or husband. Someone would kill her right after that "Queen of the North" stuff and be like "Now I'm the King". I know it sounds bleak, but that's the Westeros they've shown me for 7 seasons, not this forced happy ending bullsh*t.
P.S. That was cold how they took Jon's throne and sent his ass to the wall.

If you just saw the series, you may think season eight is bad, but if you saw the series and read the books, you know that the problems started way back in season five. They butchered the greatest show ever so don’t even bother to make sense of this shit show.
