- I had no money to play it back in the day,But at least got to enjoy my self by watching the intro.
the Super Nintendo version had different intro and always hated that,but it was the best port at the time.

People not alive during the release of this game in the arcades will never truly appreciate how incredible the music and visuals were for its time.
I wasn't alive then, and I appreciate how good it looks. I'm used to playing the DOS port on GOG. Even with changing the render mode from scale2x to supereagle and downloading a soundfont for gus rather than the normal soundblaster, it still pales in comparison to the arcade version.

This video has a better context if you were a child or teenager in the 90s and you were there, in front of this new installment, seeing that giant, new arcade machine cabinet, hearing that surrounding DCS sound system and hallucinating with the graphics. Best MK ever.

Same here! I was a kid when i played this. There's no official ps1 port as far i knew, but somehow i found a CD for play on my Playstation. The music, the characters, the blood. This game got everything.
I remember watching this on the machine at the arcade, not having any tokens to be able to play, dreaming about a home console version. This game blew my mind back then.

Yeah the ai is complete horseshit on anything above very easy, and even on very easy it's still bullshit once you reach Jade or Kintaro.

I got so stupid good at this game as a teenager that the a.i. didn't bother me. I didn't have many friends. Lmao
Once you figure out the patterns, the AI is braindead stupid. MK team never figure out how to make the AI block delayed jump kicks.

This game was included in Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks on the PS2. What a great alternative to play.
But you couldn't do the cheat codes on the Shaolin Monks version
I feel incredibly sad not to be born during the 90’s. Best time to be a gamer. Street fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 1, 2, ultimate 3, and 4, Killer Instinct, etc. For those of you who did live through that time, thank god for you all.😢

It was the best shit ever man. Playing in the arcades was awesome. I remember Vegas as a kid and the arcades were packed. Before the internet was a thing where you could get all your info, back then the arcades were amazing because you will discover new arcade games that came out and it blew your mind. I remember being jaw droped when I saw MK 3. I never thought MK 2 will have a sequel, it was too perfect.
Don’t be sad. Look at what you have now: being able to play online against anyone in the world is something we wish we had in the 90s.

I read about it in Gamepro and still was blown away by seeing/hearing it in person. They really upped everything to 11. To me, this is a rare example where a sequel completely demolishes the original.

It's so wild to hear the music to this. In most arcades, you barely heard the games at all, especially not the intros, it was a mostly visual experience.
Every Friday night my brother and I would be at the arcade in the crowd gathered around MK2 waiting our turn. It was awesome so awesome! A different time and nowadays on a Friday night at what arcades that still exist, they are empty. Obsolete. Sad.
Still epic after all these years. I remember one arcade i went to had this but the sound had a bass boost and loud speakers, the soundtrack of this game sounded fucking awesome with that setup
Though these days they keep the things unplugged most of the time cause of how loud they are.

This Shao Kahn's introduction is much better than what they did in MK9.

Mk generally I feel Is regarded to have kinds forgettable soundtrack in game (at least modern ones) but this opening still feels pretty cool I feel. I dare say epic or badass in regards to musical compliments being used to accentuate the visuals. It feels pretty grand in scale.
I am admittedly biased as my first game I ever played was mortal kombat trilogy on ps1 so I hold the series close to my heart

The city i live in had 2 arcades 1in mall. Which too easy given 1st fights all youhad to do is uppercut. Kinato and kahn where Beaten by taking 1 hit then punch till time out. And didn't have the Pits or some Fataliies. The other arcade had everything else

it released on more than 4 consoles and appeared as a unlockable from reptile's sidequests for the ps2 and xbox in the us version
