    If I had a student like that I would also start teaching about coping with losing, being humble, etc. She’s really good but there are many good young athletes out there all over the world. There are other factors that she cannot control that may help or make it more difficult at the pro level. I know shes giving her all, so in my eyes she’s already a world champion. I hope she feels like that.

    Great coach and lesson. How do you teach a competitive mindset, aggression and intensity in a calm player? Basically a get along well with others personality. How would you train a "wrongly" twitched muscle student?

    I think he was exaggerating her serve technique; I saw a number of flaws. Her grip could move a bit more towards continental. And she tended to squat low with knees splayed instead of stretching her hip flexors and upper thighs for a slight backward lean. (It's far, far better than _my_ serve, of course.)

      With you 100%. We were always taught as teachers it always start with the grip. I know there are exceptions, such as Boom Boom Becker. I also wonder about the hype factor. Obviously, it pays his bills.

      I cant agree more. I have seen many kids with better technique and better serves at 12 playing in the USTA u12 here in Missouri valley. Not sure what he is talking about the 2nd serve. Hate to think this... but Rick surely knows more than this to hype her serve.. maybe it is the $$. Surely cant be what we are seeing in this video. But she is FAST. Maybe that is why he thinks so high of her.

    What are the risks of injury when playing at such a young age, while going through puberty/growth spurts at such a fast rate? For example, many people advise against throwing curve balls in baseball at a young age, or doing weights in the gym before becoming a young adult. 🤷🏼‍♂️

      The weights myth is complete nonsense. If done with decent technique lifting weights is good for you, with bad technique it's risky. Same as for adults, there is no reason why kids still growing can't start lifting weights

  • @joerobson9442

    Her knees way too much apart! When she bend her legs both knees should face towards the post, thighs in-line with the torso.
    These squat like leg drive gives great upright momentum which gives that great consistency but limiting the body’s forward momentum, witch leads to limited ball speed. Although the numbers are very impressive.

  • @twinwankel

    Wow, I'm shocked Macci coached her up like this. The serve has many flaws. The squat is just terrible. You lose power by squatting like that and she lowers her head at contact doesn't look at the ball. That means she will contact behind her and risk injuring her shoulder. I mean she is young but she shouldn't be taught like this. It wouldn't be my child. I would find another coach. Rick could be overrated as well as annoying as hell. Just watch his other video lessons. The guy is super patronizing.

      In the end, the coaches are only as good as their players. Wooden is a favorite and my dad is a UNC alum, so Dean is also a favorite. Both great but, without Alcindor or Walton or Ford or Jordan (both have too many to list) neither gets their wins. At the end of the day, the players play; win or lose. I was down at Rick's when the Williams were there with Mr. Williams and his old clunker. My point is this, once someone makes it, the marketing brings in more ability. I too noticed the head going down as well as the grip. Is Rick suggesting neither is important? Seems more infomerical than lesson but, hey it pays his bills and alimony I guess.

    • @kartkan
      @kartkan 3 года назад +2

      @@v.m.7228 Rick said 92mph. I did not see any serve clock unless I missed something. That was no way near that speed even considering her age. By the way 12 is not young. You should watch USTA u12 girls tennis. They have better serves even here in MO valley which is in no way a tennis powerhouse. Her technique looks awful. The squatting and over rotation of the upper body (no hip) is an injury waiting to happen and less said about the grip the better. Hope the kid does not hurt herself. But she is FAST. Maybe that is why he thinks so high of her. I agree with @Wally Friend. If that was my kid i would find another coach despite this being Rick Macci.
